Re: New hardware from Amiga.inc

Hmm, now that i think of it, Bill said there would be
a path from OS4 to OS5. Maybe the hardware from
ACK can do a multiboot in OS4 and OS5.

Re: New hardware from Amiga.inc

@GregS

We must also not always think in hardware terms.

Portability is the step forwards. Imagine an usb-stick
with your own AmigaOS (? OS5+OS4+AA ?) on it that
you can use on any major hardware and/or OS.

I would love to have a laptop with an AmigaOS-stick and
i would not have to care what lies underneed the hood.

I see these new (ppc)boards as a sort of next step to this
path where they can maybe run OS5 aswel as OS4 side
by side. Maybe like my A1 that can run linux and OS4.
But this is my own speculation ofcourse.

Another cornerstone from the Amigascene that is gone.

I remember the old magazines where you had Fred Fish's
his disks on many pages. It was the pre-aminet time. I almost
broke my CD32 to try to download those cd's to my Amiga.

My condolences.

Re: Amiga Center at Kent

Is that one of the new Amiga-balls from Amiga Inc.?
It looks alot like the AA (DE) ball but without the picture in the background.
It is more a chrome ball with red boxes.

I hope they can build a real Amiga technologie center out of it, that would
give them then sort of a reference for their next contracts.
I hope they install also some SAM's with OS4.

Re: Supplanting Keyboards

@GregS

For me a touch screen with configurable keyboard would
be the best choice towards the future i think.

Lets say i want to type alot of flemish words, and you want
to type alot of english words. If we would put the most used
letters on the top or in the middle of the keyboard then that
would speed up our typing. Yes ofcource we would need to
learn these new keyboards and adapt to the changes.

But as i have just now used my cellphone to type a message,
and i do that not alot, i managed to do it, al be it not very fast.
And that is with abc, def, ghi, ... etc.

Or we could present the users with some choices of standard
software-keyboards they want to use or experiment with.

And if you would try that the hardware-way, you could let the
users choose his keyboard he wants with a replaceble keyboard-pad
that he klicks in his portable device.

Just some fast toughts, Dirk.

Re: Is it indifference or is it maturity?
Just popping in

@Paul

For me it is both.

When we had the time with the AmigaOne we did alot of effort
to pull many over the line to join the new generation. After that
Eyetech quited it fell all to a hold on the hardware site. Luckely
Hyperion did go true with OS4 so that the AmigaOne era did go on.

Now it is really time to move on with the hardware, but as long as
it is not ready there is not much we (the users) can do about it.
This is where the indifference kicks in for me, i have done my thing
and i am waiting till the new hardware comes out and hopefully
there will be alot of people who will buy the new hardware and so in
a way also support the OS4 site of things.

I really hope that our next try will be a succes. If the Italians have
learned from the past they should know how to do it. I wish them
also the best with their linux/embedded part as this will surely be
used as a foundation to build their Amiga-hardware-platform on.

@all

My son makes music with his tracker on the A1260/PPC and i do
my budget-stuff on the A1SE and the site for our amigaclub.

My daily machien is an IBook G4.

My future machine that i wish for is an OS4 tablet-computer.

Re: Amiga - What next?

@Mikey_C

I am just going to hang on till the thing is full circle again and by that
i mean that ACube and Hyperion can sell their hardware+software,
that people buy those, and that the company's earn money from it.

It is the post-AmigaOne-era all over again, where we need to give
the people some hope. I know, it was easyer for us that time because
we had much more contact with the developers true the mailinglists.
But if we look for the little hints and news-items from each of the
developers inside or outside the OS4-team, we could build already
some kind of a roadmap for ourselfs.

I myself am not a developer and because of that i support some
people their works with donations or something like that, it is the
best thing i can do. In the mean time we have also an amigaclub
going to "continue the momentum".

It is like spotUP said it, try to do something fun with the Amiga,
and that can be with any system you have.

I remember the times where i believed i was the only Amiga-user in a
wide area in my country before i knew the internet and i even knew
that there was an amigaclub nearby. I guess that we are becoming
too much demanding and are loosing patience true the internet.

Good things take time and work.

Was that not when the full product is released? That is user-hardware + OS4.0?

I think it will be better to ask Bill McEwen about this instead of starting a new rumourmill.

Re: Report your 'AmigaOS 4.0 Final' bugs here!

@lazi

If you tweak the workbench so that the mui (magicwb) colors are
right and then open another screen where the mui-colors are not
right then go to screens in prefs and add the new screen then set
everything to "like workbench" and "always".

Edit: reformulated the first part.

Hmm, seems that those 5bit screens are white, so i have set
the MultiView screen to use 32bit and "always" in prefs/screens
and now it displays the colors right.

MUI is ok here, but i use the fallback GUI with the

@tfrieden

I have done an extra new boot partition and installed OS4 on to that.

Seems that my programmes are still working so far, well infact
they work better now.

Maybe i will have to update my user-startup with some assigns.

Thanks for this huge work you guys have done.

MakeCD could recognise my plextor burner so i tryed
it with the ibook. First unpack it with DropUnLHa and
then open the iso, then select all files and put them
in the burner-map and then burn the cd.

I have done a second boot-partition, copyed all my OS4
update 4 files over to it and now i am installing OS4 Finall
on to that. Just to see if he can do an update.

Till later...

Edit:

Shoot, seams that it is not an iso, and so not a bootable cd.
The partition that i updated seems now an non-dos-disk so
it is not a good way of doing.

Ohwell, i will fix that at our next meeting.
