Re: Next Update - Update

Not too shy to talk

@ChrisH

Good suggestion - I'll add it to the list to save the radio list on exit, and keep it valid for at least a day or so (so that it doesn't go out of date).

@Chris

I'll look at the break up problems and see what I can do. Does this occur in both AHI User Mode and AHI Device Mode?

@Redfox

TuneNet has had a major internal change (especially the spawned process management) and should be much more stable than before. Still more work to finish off though.

@Tuxedo,

Additional radio format support is down to Plugins and some additional changes I need to do within TuneNet. The later is comming.

@All,

Is the volume on par with other Audio Apps now?

Cheers,
Bean.

@TSK

What version of the MP3 encoder did you have installed?

Can you do a:
version tunenet:plugins/TN_MP3_Encode.tnplug

I've V1.4 and it appears to be working OK here (with 44.1 or 48 Khz). (Remember recording with this encoder can be very processor intensive). If you're getting random DSI errors it might be also worth checking you have the latest version of every replayer (plugin).

The DockScope will have to be looked at by Curty. Curty?!

@Tuxedo,

That stream is DivX audio and not supported by TuneNet. Sorry.

@my_pc_is_amiga,

Hmm, looks like I might have to put in a larger audio buffer for slower machines. I can only suggest using playback set to "simple" from the preferences for the moment - that should bypass most of the Audio mixing (which might help a little).

Cheers.

@my_pc_is_amiga

Have you tried upping the player priority in the preferences. I don't get the garbled sound on my system even under heavy CPU usage. What is your system/sound card?

TuneNet has a few CLI options, you should be able to load a list and play from CLI (you can either enable or supress the GUI's). Type TuneNet ? from a CLI and see if you can get it going. If not let me know.

Cheers,
Bean

@Tuxedo,

What format are the two streams? Are they MP3 shoutcast streams?

Bean

@Chris

Hi Chris,

I haven't managed to get round to looking at this issue yet, but it is next on my list.

In the meantime here is a new version (executable only) which fixes some other issues:

http://tunenet.co.uk/downloads/tn8654.lha

V0.86.54 - June 09
* Radio scan list now only picks up MP3 streams (until AAC+ is supported)
* Scan and Search at the same time should not cause a crash any more.
* Audio text on the Reaction GUI was missing! Added.
* AHI output volume doubled after realising it was set at half volume.

Enjoy,
Bean.

New Scopes for AmigaAmp / TuneNet?

Not too shy to talk

Does anybody want to write a new AmigaAmp/TuneNet visualisation?

Curty put a great 3D one together; Cube Scape, and the last one I wrote was Blue Shift (both in the TuneNet archive).

So how about it?

The official development kit can be found on the AmigaAmp homepage here:

@broadblues

I've just fixed the issue with the low volume, I'll release a new version very soon. TuneNet has been playing at half volume for all these years.... :O

I've also fixed the "radio scan and search at the same time" bug.

Cheers,
Bean.

@broadblues

Hmm, I've just had a thought. I'd be interested to how much quieter it is. I'm guessing it's going to be around half the volume, and I think I know what it might be.

Orgin has kindly opened a bug tracker for TuneNet at http://bugs.os4depot.net, I've start to update it.

Cheers,
Bean.

@Snuffy

Hi,

If you launch TuneNet and go to the preferences you can change the Audio Mode to "AHI Audio 0" (it defaults to the Music Unit - which I must change). Save that and TuneNet should then play with SDL basic after that. At least I can't see why it wouldn't! Let me know if it works or not..

I've just uploaded a full archive to OS4 Depot (currently in the upload queue). It only fixes 1 exit bug from the last archive. I'm working on the others...

Bean.

Much as I love tunenet, it always seems ro play everything at "half volume" as compared to programs like sfx or audio eveolution. Perhaps this is to avoid clipping but it does mean that if I turn up the spaeakers loud eneough, system beeps etc that might occur are distressingly loud!
(or is it something todo with replaygain in the mp3? A horrible concept if ever there was one ...)

It's certainly pumping the sound out of AHI at full volume, but as you suggest the problem could be with the replayer. Can you try a few AIFF tracks (which definately have no replayer adjustments) and tell me if they are quieter than other apps as well?

Nice work anyway. Nice to see you arround again!

Thanks! It's nice to be back and see people are still around and passionate about the system!

Re: Update - Test Release Available

@kas1e

I would be interested in porting TuneNet, but to be honest it's too much work at the moment when so much of TuneNet still remains undeveloped (though I have started in some ways as the GUI's are totally independent from the core player). A case for Open Source I know, I am being a bit selfish about this one at the moment.

To answer your question about how much OS4 code is present, well when I need to use an OS function I go straight to the SDK Browser?and find an appropriate function to do the job. I'm guessing that some of this is the same accross Amiga-like platforms (like the socket, AHI library calls etc..) but for things in the Exec (like task management) I don't know the levels of compatibility.

@SoundSquare

That's one hell of a lot of failures. How about trying with the -nogui and -nodock command line option to at least see if the replayers work? Other than that the log supplied doesn't really help me as it would appear that nothing has loaded (though the ENV vars failing is correct as they wouldn't be there the first time you booted it). I suggest you speak to the people that provide the emu layer.

Cheers,
Bean.

Re: SkinFX development
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@Raziel

Hi,

It's clear I need to get some proper documentation out there on the Skin system, and it's also clear that the current functionality is rather limited in some ways. I'll try and answer your questions below:

1. Is it possible to use KNOBS (based on animation frames in a png picture) for BASS, TREBLE and VOLUME. There is a second animation frame lying over the first (KNOB) which is a lit LED telling the user, the thing is working. Is it possible to use TWO animations one over the other AND on a user change basis?

You can certainly use animation frames for knobs and wheels. See the recently uploaded CogWheel conversion on OS4Depot for an example of how this is done. You can also overlay animations, the top one would not have a hit/movement reponse, but it's animation response would be based on the outcome of the hitable/moveable object below.

2. How do i make odd shaped designs possible (like the one from ANR showcasing on your site? I tried to do one, but each part that is not used as background image is scaled to the size the background image is in and thus not useable (and i know i do something wrong)

Odd shaped windows are mearly single background masks, but you'll have to make the window not sizeable, otherwise the mask will be scaled as well. I'll have to look at ways to add on non scalable odd window sections.

3. As you can see in the shot there is a black part on the right edge of the skin, this part is defined as an ALPHA channel and erases everything i want to put there, unfortunately either i leave it out (which will stay as you now see it and look, eh, dumb and empty) or i edit the whole picture to erase the ALPHA mask on this part. Unfortunately i only have PPaint installed and it keeps crashing on me AND doesn't respect the ALPHA channel on saving

I see what you mean, but this currently isn't possible with the current version. However, with OS4.1 I should be able to address this fairly easily.

4. That skin has 5 different animations while a song is played (center). Is there a possibility to give the user the chance to switch between those on-the-fly?

You can add animations but there is no way of switching between them - I'll add this to the list of enhancements.

5. The part on the right (the ALPHA channel mask thingie) would normally consist of a kind of a drawer thing, so that if a user clicks a knob or button from there it would slide out and give another options tablet. Pressing the knob or button again, would make it slide in again - possible and how?

As detailed in point number 2, I'd have to add this functionality in.

6. Where and how do i skin the PlayList/RadioStation windows (also showcased on your site)

Currently the playlist and radiostation windows call the Reaction GUI. I'm about half way through adding multiwindow skin functionality.

7. Is it possible to have a picture containing many buttons BUT not in the way it would work with the "frames" command, but rather be able to give the x/y and w/h positions from within such a picture and use the buttons (read it out one by one so to speak?

Yes, this is certainly possible, the font in the ANR_rect skin does this. However, I haven't extended this functionality to buttons yet. On the list...

8. Is it possible to use a color theme switch as user base? Let's say i have three different color themes fro the skin display and want to give the user the chance to switch between them on-the-fly - possible?

Ah ha! One that will soon be possible. I've got a colour filter option that I started on last year, which basically applies a colour filter to objects you can specify within the XML file. In a way you could do this now by including 3 different sets of coloured skin graphics, and then having a button switch between them - but this would be rather laborious.

.. As you can see I've got a lot of work to do.

Cheers,
Bean.

@Raziel / kas1e

I'll check out the link and get back to you. In the meantime I've uploaded to OS4Depot a small file with XML description files to allow two popular AmiNetRadio skins to work with TuneNet.

Simple installation instructions are included and it's currently sitting in the upload queue: anr_skins.lha.

The description files may help with the construction of other skins.

Bean.

@TSK

Hi,

I've noted a bug as well on "Exit", to do with the Level Meters on the standard GUI. I'll get that fixed up.

Please can you tell me when the DSI errors occur (or if they are random), what type of songs you are playing (if at all) and what plugins do you have installed? Which GUI mode are you using?

A crash log would be great as well if you could PM me.

Many Thanks,
Bean.

P.S. OWB rocks :)

My Amiga was packed away whilst we redecorated, but now it's back out again. Here is a small test release (binary only - you'll need the last full package as well). At the moment I'm just interested to know if it works, and if so on what machines!

The graphical errors on the Docky and Skin should have gone, but I could only test on OS4.1. Please let me know how people get on.

http://tunenet.co.uk/download/TN08650.lha

Bear in mind, not a lot has changed, but the changes under the hood were fairly large. PThreads is not needed anymore either.

Cheers,
Bean.
