I am writing this from a 2 GHz laptop, and I can say the same (although it has sound of course). Video playback here is pretty slow and choppy.

@Daniel
There won't be a Reaction gui, the GUI itself is a part of the layout and "fixed". Mason has been working on an AmigaOS theme though to make it look like the real thing, we just didn't get that into this release.
@samo79
The little window in the beginning is the default application window that Mozilla opens. It then loads the browser chrome which goes into it, which also re-sizes the window.
The user interface is actually mostly XUL with javascript bindings.

I am really impressed by your work
Thanks and keep up with the good work
There's a lot of work left to be done. Quite a bit of the UI depends on correct subwindow rendering, which currently doesn't work most of the time. As Thom already wrote in the release notes, the rendering code has a bit of an issue (I started it way before I know the subtleties of the rendering engine's concept) and needs a large rewrite, but that sounds more dramatic than it is really, since a lot of work was not writing code but understanding how it is supposed to work. If you look closely, you will sometimes see parts of the window go completely black for a moment, there's a lot of overdraw going on in the refresh code, things like that will have to go, making the whole affair noticeably faster. Plus, there is no hardware acceleration whatsoever yet.

Menus have issues with mouse coordinates, that's why you should operate them using the shortcuts, or press ALT + menu shortcut and navigate with the cursor keys.

Actually, there is quite a bit of flashrom space left, so don't tempt me. And, maybe someone can get a Spectrum emulator from Xena...
Seriously, though, don't believe what somebody heard from someone. AmigaOS 4.1 is booting just fine on the X-1000. Work is still underway on some drivers, and I am currently building Amiga file system support into the firmware. So far, we've been booting the kickstart off a network via tftp.

This bug has been fixed in the meantime, the patch was just too fresh to be included in the update still. We'll stick that one in Update 3.

@kas1e
If your linker line includes "-use-dynld" or "-shared", then dynamic .so libraries are preferred over static .a. Otherwise, it uses static libraries (.a).
That's assuming you are using gcc.
@phx
With Update 2 now out, I might get some time tomorrow to check out your problem. Sorry that I didn't get the time earlier, it would have been preferable to get this fixed in Update 2 (if it is a problem with elf.library) but there wasn't any more time.
Edit: update 2, not update 1 :$

Just wanted to point you to a new update on the Timberwolf project with two new screenshots here and here. We've been busy with other ambitious projects lately, so the progress has been slow. We still hope to have a first public alpha out soonish, although it's still "When it's done".

Well it's ok, so is there any time frame for a first pubblic Alpha release ?
In past messages (in november) you say end of the year as a possible release date, do you think that this would be possible ?
Seriously, I don't know. There are a few details that keep us from making an alpha release. The timeframe is still "When it's done"

Any chance to include there (on the CD) a first beta of Timberworlf ?
No, most certainly not. It's not advanced enough to do that, and once we start releasing stuff, it will be a very much a moving target. Having said that, I *an* typing this on an Amiga using Timberwolf, so yes, it starts getting usable :)

I had nothing to do with the update, except the usual work. The CD itself was almost entirely produced by Rigo, who, I might add, did an extraordinary job at it, as you will all find out when the update is released.

Seriously, why is everybody hooked up on a few kilobytes of extra space? I don't quite get that, it's not like you are trying to fit things on a floppy disk.
Yeah, the new bintuils align all segments to 64 KB boundaries. Since ELF files are written with mmap() in mind, this means the extra padding is added to the file itself. Not a big deal, as soon as the segments fill up the space requirement will grow less, and in big binaries it will not make a significant difference.
If someone can't live with it, you can grab the binutils source code and fix it; might even be fixable with a linker script, without actually recompiling the binary. But seriously, why bother?
Just my two cents on the topic.
