Re: Downloads keep failing on OSDepot
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

LOL

Lesson #1:

Use IBrowse. Never seen it fail on a d/l from OS4depot.

Lesson @2:

Only use Oddity when all else fails.

Simple.

Good luck,

Cinnamon Writer status?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi all,

I needed to check an incoming DOCX file the other day, I
fired up CW v0.95 and realized it had been a long time
since I updated.

But it looks like there hasn't been any updates since then
and Claus' webpage is now AWOL too.

Anyone know, did development cease or just on a hiatus?
I'd be sorry to hear it.

Thanks,.

GetData beta
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi Guys,

Last night I uploaded a little ARexx script to OS4Depot
for doing quick inquiries & displaying results from the
net.

Essentially, the script uses Curl to start a search,
download the resulting pages and then the script parses
the results into a simple window.

My test case was to come up with a quick way to see who's
calling... to do a reverse phone number search in the US.

Please let me know what you think, if you have any
questions or issues.

Thanks,

PJS

Re: Basilisk 1.0 beta testing
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi guys,

It's been a few years, I took another look at Basilisk and
a stab at where things stand with networking...

Back in the old days, I had great results using the 68K
VLink virtual SANA-II drivers to get Shapeshifter online
with MiamiDx:

http://aminet.net/package/comm/tcp/vlink

I checked in with Olaf Barthel and he said it should still
work with OS4 Roadshow (Thanks Olaf!).

So I created another interface for VLink in Roadshow and I
selected the "mirror" in Basilisk's GUI and fired it up.
The good news is that the Mac thinks it's online. Bad
news: it can't see anything - pinging anything (but itself)
fails.

Maybe Roadshow and Basilisk are just misconfigured? ...or
is Basilisk unable to network? I just don't know. Anyone
else tried this?

The final bit of good news with Basilisk thinking it's
online - now MiniCAD 7 runs! :) No more "Error 28".
Apparently that was MiniCAD's network license checking
failing (no more).

Final question... Isn't Basilisk still using the old UAE
engine without the new JIT ?

If so, would it be possible to compile one of the new
versions of the UAE-JIT engine into Basilisk?

Thoughts? Experience?

Thanks!

Re: AmiUpdate issue
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hey Cass,

You really shouldn't run the "AutoInstall" script in the
root of the archive. Those scripts are typically only
meant for AmiUpdate to run when updating a previous
version.

Instead, there's an "Install" script within the
"lzma_lib.53.7" directory which is the one meant for a
user's first, "manual" install.

If there's a problem with the standard "Install" script,
I'd suggest getting in touch Chris Young (the porter).

Good luck!

Re: SSH client for AmigaOS with builtin terminal emulation

@salass00

Keep up the great work Fredrik! Looking forward to your
work on the SSH client. Sent some paper thanks.

I was wondering about the terminal emulation aspect of
your client... Are doing your own implementation of ANSI,
VT codes or how is that going to work?

I've been using the console with SSH on a shell account for
years, but it's always been a challenge. Hard to set up.
Hard to get the server talking with the Amiga. Hard to
keep working (apps no longer seem to pay attention to
TermCap, etc., like Alpine).

Very curious to hear what your plans are and how things are
going!

THANKS again,

Re: Timberwolf is now open source

Not too shy to talk

Hey guys,

For what little it's worth, TW has continued to work here
on my X1K and X5K too. Typically it wants a reboot before
and it doesn't like to run at the same time as Oddity.

I also find deleting "CurrentUserProfile/#?" also helps.
I added it to the beginning of the "Timberworlf" CLI script
that starts TW.

The problem I've most recently found is that TW rarely
ever works anymore on HTTPS:// sites. Old SSL I expect.

@nbache

Thanks for the reminder on the certificates! Forgot
about that trick.

The last time I updated them was last Summer. Apparently,
that was long enough ago to have been the source of some
problems.

Maybe I should set that to be an automatic download, along
with the spam DNS list.... hmmmm....

@kas1e

If OpenSSL is what's being used, yes, I'd guess so.

I've just run into more and more HTTPS sites that no longer
work. Obviously, it could easily be the browser engine,
but given how fast security is moving, that could be it
too.

Thanks,

@kas1e

Kas1e, thank you very much providing an update on the
situation and for your work on previous versions.

Regarding the built-in media players, rather than trying
mess with the kludges within the browser, would it be
possible to just turn off all Video & Audio playback
within the browser and then we could re-route those to
reliable external players like FFMpeg, MPlayer and
AmigaAmp?

How about a on/off checkbox on the Media settings page?

That would avoid a ton of crashes and memory leakage.

I've tried resetting the MIME types, but they have been
ineffective diverting video from playing within webpages.

OTOH, it would be fantastic if the security side of things
could be updated. Is that built into webkit or separate
and updatable?

Thanks again,

Re: Can't get files from tablet

Not too shy to talk

@Nuder

Most droid devices no longer support simple Mass Storage
USB access anymore.... Something about their lack of
security... ;)

The best way I've found for accessing my droid devices
(aside from pulling the MicroSD card) has been to run an
FTP server on the device.

With that, you can simply connect with AmiFTP or pFTP and
move files back and forth straightforwardly over your wifi
network.

The most recent FTP server for droid I found was called
"FTP Server (Free)" on the open source marketplace
"F-Droid":

http://ppareit.github.io/swiftp/

It seems to be pretty fast, but I'm still testing.

Good luck,

Hi Petrol and all,

Thanks! Yes, turning off JS did wonders. I created a new
URL prefs entry, turning off JS on DDG and new the URL bar
search entry is working great with this string:

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%s&kp=-2

Good stuff.

@Raziel

Hi Stranger!

Yeah, I think I tried all those variants before...

As a simple example, if you paste any of those in the URL
gadget of IB and hit return, you get the incomplete and
empty DDG page I've been getting.

I'm guessing that DDG must be doing some javascript on the
search URL string that isn't happy with IB while if you
just enter the a search string in their webpage it works.

Bummer.

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, that's not working any better for me then
my previous attempts...

When I set up & tried the URL bar search entry with your
string, I end up with a nearly empty page with just a
string field and my query in it, like this:

Re: Amigaone xe install script
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

@Tijatjj

Hi!

Congrats on getting your XE up and running.... Nice solid
machine in my experience, if you optimize it and tread
lightly on USB.

But to start with, it sounds like you have it booting (from
CD or ??) and you're just trying to get it to boot from the
hard drive? Maybe you can explain what exactly you've
done so far?

First, make sure you have a brand new 2032 battery in your
XE. Do this before anything else. The XE can be
notoriously flakey if the battery starts to decline.

Otherwise, it sounds a lot like you could be having a
problem with you UBoot configuration.... You have to set
some "environment variables" so UBoot knows what drives to
boot from.

Here's a page on the AmigaOS wiki describing those:

http://wiki.amigaos.net/wiki/UserDoc:BIOS

To most easily see how your XE's variables look, when you
boot to AmigaOS, open a Shell window and type in the
"NVGetVar" command and see what comes up.

If you're using the IDE bus on the motherboard for your
harddrive, I think the most important variables to have
set will be these:

a1ide_conf
a1ide_xfer
a1ide_maxbus
boot1
boot2
boot3
boot4

There are three ways you can set those variables...

You can set those variables using the command line in the
UBoot shell (really crude but straight forward) and its
"setenv" and "saveenv" commands.

You can also use the UBoot prefs program that gives you a
GUI to do this with.

As a final resort, you can use the UBoot "GUI", but beware!
It is really flakey and you will have to go through and
reset all boot settings each time you open it (it wipes
settings when opened).

For comparison's sake, on my XE, I use sii3112 SATA and
sii0680 IDE cards instead for stability. This is how my
ENVVAR list looks:

----------------------------------------------------
bootcmd=menu; run menuboot_cmd
bootdelay=0
baudrate=115200
preboot=
stdout=vga
stdin=ps2kbd
ide_doreset=on
menucmd=menu
pci_irqa=9
pci_irqa_select=level
pci_irqb=10
pci_irqb_select=level
pci_irqc=11
pci_irqc_select=level
pci_irqd=7
pci_irqd_select=level
bootmethod=boota
ethact=3Com 3c920c#0
ethaddr=00:09:D2:11:01:57
boot_config=Default
boota_timeout=10
boot_method=boota
menuboot_delay=3
bootargs=root=/dev/ram rw ramdisk=4096
boot3=ssii
kbddev_norwin=yes
os4_commandline=debuglevel 0 serial
a1ide_maxbus=0
ide_cd_timeout=10
video_num=1
menuboot_cmd=ide reset; boota; boota; boota
boot1=ssiicdrom
boot2=psiicdrom
sii0680ide_maxbus=2
boot4=psii
ide_maxbus=0
sii0680ide_conf=2 1
sii3112ide_maxbus=2
sii3112ide_xfer=FF
sii0680ide_xfer=C0E0
sii3112ide_conf=12
----------------------------------------------------

Good luck & enjoy,

Hey Sev,

Nope, when I just paste that string in the URL line or put
it in a Search config, it just gives me an empty page on
DDG with the search term. No results.

Is that working for you?

DuckDuckGo search in IB?
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

Hi folks,

I've been trying to see if I could come up with a URL for
DuckDuckGo.com which would let me do searches from the
IBrowse search bar...

While I can just go to the site URL, perform searches and
use the results in IB, I haven't had much luck coming up
with a search bar string.

Here's a DDG page where I found some docs:

https://duckduckgo.com/params

And I tried the Mycroft page for their plugins.

Anyone else have any luck along these lines?

Thanks,

PJS

Is there anywhere you're worried about that might need more
