Anyone here do data recovery from Amiga formatted hard drives?
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

I have three hard drives from my old A1-XE. One in an external USB housing (PATA) and the two that were inside the XE (SATA), serving as a working drive and as a mirrored manual backup drive.

All of them show up in Media Toolbox with what appear to be valid partition structures, and as automount. But none of them show up on the workbench or in mounter. Between the external USB and the mirrored back up in the case, I thought I had my back-up bases covered. But I'm unable to access any of this data.

Are there any hard drive Gurus out there who would be willing to recover some of my data and put it onto USB stick(s)? I'm willing to pay for such a service and for the USB sticks, of course. I only want the Data: and Programs: partitions from the drives. (at some point, I had even made ADF backup files of all my floppy disk software, using the Catweasel in my A1, which were/are on the Data: partitions.)

If you can do this or know of someone/some company who can, please let me know. My X5000 is ready to receive data now.

@derfs

My log in credentials work for Amistore. Just not for updater. Weird.

Enhancer Software Updater won't run

Nearly everything on my new X5000 is sorted and working now. One exception is. . .

Updater pops up asking for my AmiSphere password and login. I enter them, hit return, and then it asks me to enter them again. After re-entering the login and password, I hit return, and then get a DSI. If I try to ignore the DSI, I get an ISI and need to reboot.

I've made a phone call and an email to Amigakit /Matthew to get that sorted out. But so far no response.

I recopied Updater and the Amisphere Server from the Enhancer 1.5 software. But it makes no difference.

(I DID finally get Amistore to work so I could buy the grpahics update package and a couple other items.)

@Rigo

replace it with "amiupdate.codebench.co.uk". This should fix your public update problems.

That's what I needed. Working now. Thanks, Simon.

Yeah, Updater pops up asking for my AmiSphere password and login. I enter them, hit return, and then it asks me to enter them again. I hit return, and then get a DSI. If I try to ignore the DSI, I get an ISI and need to reboot. Hopefully a phone call to Amigakit /Matthew will get that sorted out.

Amiupdate settings?

What should the tooltypes be for Amiudate these days? All I have there now is EMAILADDRESS=client@amiupdate.net. Aren't the sites where it looks for updates suppposed to be listed in the tooltypes? Right now when I click on Amiupdate, nothing opens.

I'm having issues with Updater and Amistore too, but I'll phone Amigakit tomorrow morning to try to straighten that out.

Thanks for the ongoing help. I'm getting my new X5000 up to speed pretty well now.

Paul

edit: I'm getting a window open now. In prefs it lists 2 servers: www.amiupdate.net and update.amigaos.net. I get nothing from the first one. On the second one (?) I get a popup asking for a user name and password for "AmigaOSUpdateServer". I guessed and used my AmiSphere info and pressed on "Connect" but nothing happens. Are there any other servers? I always found this utillity handy for things like MUI updates.

I seem to remember when my A1-XE was running, I had to take out one of the servers from the list, and add another one.

@pvanni

Well, it's working again as of a few minutes ago. I was able to log in here and write from the 5000. We'll see if it stays up for more than one night this time.

I did take my router back to factory and rebuild the network. At first no response. Then I deleted the Internet prefs I had, started from scratch with a simple "Wizard" setup, and then it worked.

Thank you, everyone, so much for all your help. I find I cannot log in to Amishpere from the Amiga yet, but I've read that this is a common problem which Matt can usually straighten out.

You wrote:

It would seem that we both have the same MAC address on the P50x0 interface!!!

@Cap

At the beginning of this saga, I was using the "Wizard" for setup. Although I selected Lan/Ethernet/ etc., it often showed it as "Dialer" generated. IT seems that the accepted method now is to uses the prefs tool, which I've been using on the last several attempts.

Thanks for all the time and help everyone. Going away, so I won't have time to redo the router and network until later. I'll let you know what happens later.

Back before I actually got my 5000, I seem to remember reading a thread about uboot not showing the correct MAC, and needing to do some setenv commands.Is this the problem here?

@smf

Here ya go:

8.System:C> shownetstatus P50x0
Interface "P50x0"
Device name = p50x0_eth.device
Device unit number = 0
Hardware address = 00:50:C2:FF:FF:00
Maximum transmission unit = 1500 Bytes
Transmission speed = 10000000 Bits/Second
Hardware type = Ethernet
Packets sent = 2
Packets received = 0
Packets dropped = 0 (in = 0, out = 0)
Buffer overruns = 0
Unknown packets = 0
Address = 192.168.1.14
Network mask = 255.255.255.0
Number of read I/O requests = 36 (maximum of 0 used at a time, 36 are still pending)
Number of write I/O requests = 32 (maximum of 2 used at a time, 0 are still pending)
Number of bytes received = 0
Number of bytes sent = 56
Transfer statistics (in/out) = DMA:0/0 Byte:0/2 Word:-/0
Address binding = Static
Link status = Up
8.System:C>

Interesting!!! The MAC above does not match the two MAC's listed in the System Info window I pulled up from the startup menu. There it shows the two MAC's as

00:04:A3:6B:43:ED and
00:1E:C0:F7:ED:F2

Should I assume that with such a discrepancy I won't be able to connect to anything?

Thanks smf.

@SinanSam460

Yeah, I've tried both ports, with the assumption that 0 is the one next to the serial port.

I've used 3 different cables now.

I do have a list of allowed hardware in the router. I've added the 5000's MAC to the list.

Tonight, I think I'll rebuild the network (3 Windoze machines, 2 Windoze laptops, and 2 printers.) 1 of those is my wife's work computer, another is my my Windoze work computer, so I do this with great fear and trepidation. I'll have between her quitting time and tomorrow morning to get it right, or we're in big trouble.

Paul

edit: and as it turns out, the MAC I used in the list might not really be the right MAC. See below.

Thanks! If it's that easy, I'll be kicking myself for weeks!

I'll give it a try before I turn in. Can't do it during the day. My wife relies on the network for her job all day.

@Spectre660

"Use Static IP Address" is already selected there.

I've also tried "Name resolution" at 8.8.8.8 and at 71.10.216.1 which I pulled up from the router interface from my Windoze computer.

On the 5000, I can ping local host, but I can't ping my router. Oddly, I don't seem able to ping the router from the Windoze machine either, using the router's gateway IP ddress.

This is all with a much shorter, brand new cable attached.

Paul

edit: Obviously, this is all being written from my Windoze computer.

@Spectre660

Tried it out as you indicated. Checked in prefs/internet that the info was in there after setup. Still no go.

In manual setup I've run the test of the two eth ports on the 5000 in the setup tool, and it says they pass the test. I'll try getting another cable (3rd one) and see if it makes a difference.
