Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Hi,
I am trying out RDesktopGUI
I have a SAM and a PC connected to an ADSL router.
I have a problem saving the 'profile ' element
'Computer' i used the same IP as for AmiFtp 192....
User Name and Password also as in AmiFTP
When i then hit 'connect' i get the message 'the current profile does not include the remote computer address or name...
When i save it it is stell the same, when i reload the profile the 'Coputer' field is empty.

What am i doing wrong?

@abalaban

Thank you very much.

Any idea where the 'non standard' icons used for Internet, Extras, and Players subdockies come from?

How do i add a subdockie to Amidock
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Hi,
the OS4.1 Update1 Amidock comes with a nice illustration of subdockies, but i can't see how i have toa dd other one's.
- i start adding a 'System' itelm under the Docks list as a standard category
- i can edit it, adding some objects tot it.
Now it is visible somewhere on my screen .

I do observe athat for other subdockies say Players, the 'Maindock' contains
a 'Players' itemtoo, points to the file Sys:Utilities/Dockies/SubDock.docky
ansd to an alternative icon ENV:Sys/def_players_dock

When i hit the 'Add' button i get a file requester but i don't see which file i should choose?

Help much appreciated

Joseph

Clicking on the forground/backgound does work only for bringing a window to the foreground.
What about this?

@desler

Hi,

i would love to use it more. The documents i am working on are however mostly Wordworth produced rtf files.

They load but not as expected. Most words are underlined, and layout not respected. neither.
Guess you did not look after this. Can you tell if you will?

Thanks for your efforts

Re: Nasty U-Boot problem SOLVED

Just can't stay away

@Snuffy

What went wrong was that when looking for the boot prioities in U-boot i found everything Ok, but still managed to save and exit having the CDROM set as boot priority 1 and 2.
After that, my keyboard did not respond any more. (big panic)
Luckily i found that when i used the (old) OS4.1 install disk, my keyboard responded, i interrupted the boot with the keyboard and was able to have access to U-boot again. I then did set the priority 2 to HD?

Everything OK from then

Thanks for your reaction

Nasty U-Boot problem SOLVED
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Hi
i have a nasty problem with my Sam's U-Boot.
Have tried to verify how boot priorities were set; they seemed OK CDRom first, SATA dr(ive second, so i left hyavibg saved that (should probably not have, but i did not see how to leave), then since i wwas still in UBoot used the ESC switch.
Now i don't have a boot anymore:
- if no bootCDROm present the initial U Boot sequence goes on (passing through the phase were you have the opportunity to press any key to stop autoboot, but autoboot does not respond to key being hit)
- i did make an autobooting copy of my sys drawer, but it did not work, that's why i wanted to verify the boot priorities
- using it U Boot scans the CD tells me "No ELF image at address 0x0c89.. bad ELF image loader" then tells me the same story as when i have no bootCD, invites me to press a key to continue, but keuboard does not wor

I made the bootCDROM with AmiDVD
Any idea how to go on with this?
I have used my OS4.1 install CD, and can get to my OS4.1 partitions, but his takes ages.

Re: Frying Pan How do i burn OS4.1 update to CDROM
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

@Snuffy
Thanks for clarification, as said i used an iso image created with FryingPan then burned it with mdvd with the Amiga boot checkmark set. The 'boot' icon is there, so why don't i observe the system booting from CD but again from my HD ?

I burned an other CDROM following carefully your steps.
I have the same results: When i boot with the CD present, hand is passed to the HD sys:partition (ot this one takes precedence)
As other CD's such as the OS4.1 update CD do take over the system, what could be wrong here?

I think i will rewrite the last CD after having some user-startup instructions modified to show ther are executed. Then report back.

@Raziel

Sure Buddy,
I am stilll trying to follow the logic here.

http://www.intuitionbase.com/static.php?section=en_Boot-CD
i would at least have the content of the boot CD right even if it does not boot.

So - i did put the content of my boot partition in a drawer datas:Sysboot
data:Sysboot/C etc
i modified in user:startup Sys: with SysBootCD: hoping to give this name to the volume

i do try to give the CD the structure of a bootdisk
C/
..
WBStartup/
.backdrop
..

i do give the name SysBootCD to the volume as you indicated
1) Now i can, using 'add' in Tracks/Iso Builder and pointing to the drawer Datas:SysBoot
produce a CDROM where alll drawers are contained in SysBootCD/SysBoot
eg
SysBootCD/SysBoot/C
---
SysBootCD/SysBoot/WBStartups

My assigns will be wrong and i guess
a) startup-sequence will not be found and
b) a number of commands of startup-sequence won't work c:

2) i can add one subdrawer one at a time (by opening each subdrawer) say C/ --- WBStartup/
each at a time and constitue a correct directory tree (seems very tedious, no better way?)
here it was OK but tedious work.

I would like to find the MakeCD with the 'bootoptions' seen on this URL.
http://www.intuitionbase.com/static.php?section=en_Boot-CD
Does someone recognise it?

In the mean time i did find out that Amidvd theoretically could burn as a bootCD (AMiga & UBoot) Burned the previously constucted isoimage, got a nice booticon, but it did not boot, normal system did.
As other bootable CD's do work OK i gues i made a mistake or Alidvd does not do what it saye.
Anybody experience with Amidvd bootcd's?

Thanks again

Joseph

Where does the name and the icon com from?

I tried to do the same for an iso image built with Frying pan, but always get the name CDROM ?

@Raziel

Sorry for the misleading formulation.

I have decided to make me a boot cd first with my old system as described here for MakeCD
http://www.intuitionbase.com/static.php?section=en_Boot-CD
Can you guide me through the corresponding steps with Frypan?

I was impatient and tried to burn it, wrong name, so it did not boot (or other problems) Now my problem is ( i don't have empty CDROM right now, how do i clear this RW CD ?

Thanks

Joseph

@Raziel

I guess, i tried to edit the first one , since in the mean time i found this

http://www.amiga.org/forums/blog.php?b=142
A lot more precautions. Can i indeed just install over my sys partition?
Did?all went ok for you ?
I have the AmigaOS4.1 original CD ready, so i guess in case of problem i can always use that instead of medling with partitions?

Thanks again

Re: Migration to OS4 Hooks

Just can't stay away

@ZeroG

I have the Rom kernel Manual (Developer CD V2.1) , but have it only partly on my HD
Do you know by heart in which part it is in?
The problem though is really my inexperience with autodocs and includes.
I am using the the SDK browser and was pretty well organised in finding 'normal' library calls to verify if something had changed (made a search on obsolete and deprecated) These hook calls: it is just 2 that i have to change. So maybe i was a bit lazy. But still GTST_Edithook has no examplehookfunction (search on SGWork) other stringgadgets do. etc.
