@MichaelMerkel

ok. did test it.
- deactivated amiupdate in startup
- reboot
- netshutdown works fine
- started owb and surfed some sites
- quit owb
- netshutdown still works fine

so at least on my side amiupdate seems to be causing some problem with the netshutdown command. even if i start and quit it.
only not starting it at all cures this?!

rigo? are you reading?

I haven't amiupdate on my startup prefs.

Don't know why amiupdate and startup prefs ???.. If we talk about the amiupdate program, I use it manually.

hmmm... what sense makes it to use amiupdate and not having it started automatically at startup?!

anyway - here on my side the netshutdown is NOT working if amiupdate is running in the background. if i do not start it before it sorks fine.
on the other hand i have not tested any other internet connection... i'll do that now.

no,no the problem actually arrive with nothing accessing the internet.

Some time ago, when working fine, netshutdown arrive to reset the internet with Ibrowse receiving datas at the same time (of course, Ibrowse stop during the reset).

you're (almost) right.
i tried it with a clean os4.1upd2 installation and there it works fine. netshutdown does shut it down.
but this does not work with my normal work setup

one more thing which works with a clean partition and not with my real one. the other thing still is grim reaper not being able at all to end applications

using the CLONE attribute *should* copy all protection bits.

Hello,

Usually, this feayture work but I sudenly, I have seen recently that this feature doesn't work anymore.

for example, open prefs/internet and change something inside (for example use static option).

After you use the save button on internet program.

A shell show: waiting the connection reset (translated to french).

and now here this window rest forever on the workbench and impossible to quit the internet program. The connection work allways fine and not be resetted.

ususlly this happens, if another program currentlys is "using" the network. i had this for example with yam. if i quit yam then readshow continues to reset.
check if another program is using the betwork at that time. maybe ranger can give a hint here.

Does "Copy COPYLINKS" not work?

no because it copies the link targets instead of the real links.
so in the copy you have no more (soft) links but actual copies.

the only thing which seems to work is using the workbench drag&drop to copy files. this respects the links and creates them correctly.

I've had now few times corrupted ringhio.appsprefs.xml file. There's a long string of garbage in Name tag (between name and /name tags) of one entry. I don't know what might cause that or how to reproduce it. I can send the corrupted file to the author if needed. It makes the file really big and causes loss of memory and spending 100% CPU some time during boot process.

Another user confirms this in AmigaWorld.net.

iirc rigo already confirmed that and wrote that this bug has been fixed for the next update. wasn't that also in that thread? or was it here somewhere?

hi.

currently i don't see the possibility to copy links with the copy command. is this correct? will this be added?
(the content of links can be copied but not the links itself)

Can you confirm what I found ?

well, i burnt an os4.1upd1 install cd and bootet from it completely as a start. no grim reaper crash from here.
then i warm bootet into my normal hd.
also no gr crash.

so i can add:
using kickstart setup from 4.1upd1 +my up2 hd -> no crash
using kickstart setup from 4.1upd2 +my up2 hd -> crash

but i had so many different situations now... some crash some don't and the next moment... well...

Another idea, after reading the above strange symptoms:

well, the clean os4 partition already is a separate, bootable partition i always have this is place to check programs which cause problems and to see if this lies on my special installation or not.

i also tested it.

1. on my normal system grim reaper crashes
2. on a clean system (us4.1upd2 installed - nothing else) grim reaper works fine!
3. on my normal system, bootet with no-startup, loadwb "manually xeceuted" and no wbstartup at all, grim reaper also crashes!

i don't wonder about 1+2. but 3 is strange, imho. maybe i'll investigate further what exactly causes the reaper to crash.

i started with my clean os4.1upd2 partition. as written - no problem! no gr crash.
i then copied some drawers from my normal workbench partition over to the clean one and rebootet - well gr crashed!

recovering the clean partition i copied over drawer by drawer and tried it. the prefs drawer seems to be the culprit here.

ok - investigating the prefs drawer. it of course contains the env-archive drawer. copying over everything *except* the env-archive drawer - reboot - test - no gr crash!

so i believe that some env prefs is causing this.
i continued and found one possible problem:
contextmenu.prefs. at least i thought so.

using the "clean" one - no gr crash. using my one - crash.

but on my normal partition gr also crashed without any commodity running... and that is quite strange. so it cannot be contextmenu.prefs?!

i'm lost currently.

fact:
1. on a clean os4.1upd2 partition gr never crashed
2. on my partition it very well does - even if no startup-sequence and no wbstartup has been run.

that one is very strange!!

maybe i can investigate a little more tomorrow - or later. let's see. i like such "problems"
