Bravo to this guy.

Here's the thing - for home computing use, there are many examples where applications from 20 years ago are still viable now.

The best MIDI sequencing tools, digital music composing tools, best trackers and sample editors were made in the 16 bit era. GarageBand is a piece of crap. Sibelius did everything it does today in its original RISC OS version.

There's nothing in Microsoft Office today that most home computing users need, that wasn't in Office v4 (AKA the best version of Office ever made). And you can run the mac version of that in shapeshifter. Except perhaps support for PDF and OfficeXML file formats.

The best pixel art editors of the Amiga era haven't been surpassed by today's tools. Indeed, that seems to be a lost art.

When you get into video editing then yes, today's NLEs can't run on legacy platforms and will always benefit from faster hardware, more memory etc. And the same is kind of true for 3D animation programs, although Blender certainly runs on OS4 and is as good as any professional tool.

Report it over on forum.amiga.org there are people there watching for bug reports

As for the solution, try changing your FailAt limit

I'm not sure the amiga IP stack supports multihoming, and AFAIK the ethernet port driver doesn't support the second port. Of course, you could plug your first port into the mifi.

@Samurai_Crow

The third option is what I had in mind. The 'Amiga on a card' should exist as it's own thing, not try to take on other responsibilities covered by off the shelf graphics cards or other things.

You're going to have a problem with fixing that though, because you'll have to explain to all your customers why you're 'charging' their accounts unexpectedly. And since you are in the UK, you aren't allowed to hold customers' funds indefinitely, unless you are an FCA regulated emoney service provider. If you at least sent out receipts from the system, as you've been asked to do on many occasions, you would at least have records to prove that this is just a correction, and not something more dubious.

@BSzili

You are correct

@walkero

I think the point is, even on their official support forums - where this specific bug has already been raised - they don't reply. But criticize Matt's choices of what to include in Enhancer? or some other passive aggressive criticism of how he runs his business? You'll get an answer within minutes!

Thanks and yes I suspected that to be the case and that is a problem I think, all devs should really be using same version of same toolchain to make collaboration easier and make debugging easier. That some use newer GCC is fine if only they share so everyone can use same one.

Thanks for answering. Do you still build with the stock SDK or have you and other OS4 devs moved unofficially to one of the newer GCCs?

AFAIK UAEGFX driver works on EUAE as well as on WinUAE.

Idea of the day - FPGA Amiga on a PCI card (or even a USB stick)

Here's a thought. Back when AmigaOne computers were new, everyone said, quite rightly, 'they can't be true Amigas with hardware backwards compatibility because they don't have the custom chips'.

Also at that time UAE wasn't yet a thing, or at least, the high quality thing it is now.

The world has changed in 20 years. You can now get an 'Amiga on a chip' as per Minimig, Vampire etc.

But all these implementations either standalone, or plug into a classic Amiga.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was a FPGA on a PCI card version, that one could plug into your PowerPC Amiga, and turn it into a true Amiga that could run a sandbox UAE-type software, but run it at original speed accurately by virtue of using the hardware solution i.e. a kind of hardware UAE.

Thoughts?

@graff not sure how you know the answer to that, are you part of OS4 dev team? While you're here, any chance of a OS4 SDK update? It's a few years old now, we could do with new c libs and a new GCC / binutils please.

Updating root CA certs doesn't require updating the source code, heck it doesn't even require you to rebuild the app from source.

Delete is doing exactly what it's supposed to, it's setting a return code of 5 - warning - because there's no file to delete. Without a failat threshold set above 5, the script will terminate before the next command.
