hello, I was looking in my newly installed OS4.0 for a no drive click option some where. Does it exist?
Or did they forgot it?
Ciao
S.

You could always do what I used to do on my Classic Amigas - keep a floppy in the drive.

I had an old floppy I used just for that.

2 years ago,with a hold version of debian,i remenber that my AoneXE don't boot with my 9250 and the driver ati.

i could boot only with the generic driver 800x600 screen with a ugly scrolling because the real screen was 1024x768

since i abandoned linux

If you have a goods news with a newer version .....

I had the same problem the very first time I installed Linux on my A1. I was still using the Radeon 7000 at the time. During the install you can select which screen modes you want to use. If you selected more than one Linux was SUPPOSED to default to the highest resolution. I found that wasn't the case and was stuck with a 800x600 screen.

What I did was re-run that part of the install and ONLY select the screen mode I wanted to use (1024x768 in my case).

@daveyw

When I booted Linux for the first time after installing my Radeon 9250, I would only get the text login. I solved it but I don't remember exactly what I did. I THINK I logged in as root and entered:

dpkg-reconfigure xfree86

It then let me change many of the settings (keyboard, mouse, etc...). Of course the one that matters in this situation is monitor/video. As I recall there were 2 settings that seemed appropriate for the Radeon 9250. It was set to one already so I chose the other ("fbdev" maybe?).

Maybe one of the Linux experts on this site can be more precise.

@daveyw

What are your Linux boot args? Maybe it would help to change "radeon" to "radeonfb".

Does it boot but it's text only, or does it not boot at all?

@OldAmigan

When you originall installed OS4.1, was the partition bootable? Was the boot priority set right?

Which filesystem was your boot partition?

The problem is that whereas with most programs, where each evolution of the program increases speed, with MAME each revision increases accuracy at the cost of speed.

Each release gets slower? Sounds like windoze...except for the 'increases accuracy' part!

In other words, our current CPUs are really too slow to run the more modern versions of MAME.

That said, I still want to try one day. :)

How about someone just adding mouse support to the current OS4 version?

I was just wondering if there was any progress on a new OS4 version of MAME? It's been quite a while since the last update.

There are no major bugs that I know of but mouse support (for shooting games) would be nice.

If you think 25 minutes to install OS4 is a long time, you've obviously never tried to install windoze.

xMame author is Steffen H?user

And who wrote xMAME-GUI? I'd probably never use xMAME if I had to run it (and set the options) from CLI. They both deserve credit.

It seems I forgot to update the link when I submitted the update to AmiUpdate. I've changed the link now but it will probably take some time still for the change to be approved.

It seems to be working now.

Thanks.

Would it be hard to show if a user has any private messages as soon as he logs in without having to click on the Inbox, like AmigaWorld does?

Not that I get a lot of personal messages.

How about Denill and Andreas (for the OS4 Mplayer /Mplayer GUI)?

Or how about the guys responsible for the OS4 version of xMAME/xMAMEGUI (don't know their names or handles)?

(moderators, feel free to move this post if you can find a more apropriate place)

When I try to update AmiSoundEd's MP3 plugin, AmiUpdate says it can't extract it and offers to download it to RAM. Upon examing the file in RAM, it's not an LHA file, but an HTML page with the wrong extension.

I'm guessing OGR is some kind of shared computing like seti-at-home or folding-at-home?

Now I may have to open new threads for further questions, but this first one should be OK in here as it's so similar ... how do I access my CD drive ? I have an adapter in the PCMCIA slot with a thick grey wire that goes into the SCSI adapter at the back of the CD. Apart from the power lead, I assume this is all I need, I don't recall previously having a 9-pin lead into the other port in the PCMCIA card ... though I could, of course, be wrong !

If I put in a CD, Simon the Sorceror, a CD32 disc, for instance, the CD doesn't appear the same way that the Floppy drive does ...

You'll also need a SCSI terminator. If the only SCSI device is the CDRom drive it'll plug into the other SCSI socket on the back of the drive. If you have other SCSI devices plugged in the terminator needs to be plugged into the last drive on the chain.

I think some devices may have termination built in.

So here we are : OGR-25 is finally over, now all we can do is RC5 crunching with our clients.
However according to bovine's .plan there is already beta for OGR-NG clients, MOS already seems to have a beta too, will we see an updated client too ?

Excuse me, What exactly is OGR-25?

'feasible' in my understanding means "likely" or "sensibly". I don't think it is feasible for Hyperion to go into browser writing. It *would* be a dreadful waste of resources.

That's the meaning I had in mind when I wrote this post. That's why I wrote 'feasible' instead of 'possible'.
