Re: Migration to OS4 Hooks

@JosDuchIt

The right amigaguide is ADCD_2.1:Reference/ROM_Kernel_Manuals/Libraries_Manual.

Hooks in general are covert in chapter 37 "Utility Library".

EditHooks for intuition stringgadgets are covert in chapter 5 "Intuition Gadgets" -> "String Gadget Type" -> "Custom String Editing". It includes an example for edithooks with the filename strhooks.c.

Ok i understand how you reason about this.
Obviously i am not working with system doc yet with enough experience.

Maybe it's my english...
However you should get a copy of the "Amiga ROM Kernel Reference Manual: Libraries 3rd Edition" book, it contains good explanations about Hooks and many other topics.

There is a digital version on this CD:

and the production of the SGWork structure needed by the hookfunction

The OS builds a valid SGWork structure and passes it to your Hookfunction when it is called by the OS.

The OS calls your Hookfunction with the arguments that are described in the Includes & Autodocs. I don't see your problem with that.

@JosDuchIt

A)
The gadtools autodocs says that GTST_EditHook will be copied to the StringExtend->EditHook field.
If you now make a quick search in the includes you will find the file intuition/sghooks.h. Have you read it?

B)
A WA_BackFill hook is, as the autodoc says, a LayerHook that is described in Layers.doc InstallLayerHook() as

void LayerHookFunc(struct Hook *, struct RastPort *, struct BackFillMessage *);

BTW: The InstallLayerHook() autodocs needs a update, it still has a 68k-asm example.

@freddix

I think that opengl uses P96 to render the data or at least notifies Picasso96 which memory spaces of the board are used to store 3D data. Otherwise p96 could overwrite the 3D data by mistake. So the values returned by p96 should be correct, or?

Get the full SFS archive from joergs homepage and/or have a look at SYS:Utilities/PartitionWizard.

Well, the OS4 GCC/bintools are open source, go and check the source, or put a report in the bugtracker.

@328gts

Visit the Hardware tab and select Floppy drives from the list on the left side or use the Quickstart tab.

BTW.: you should download the old E-UAE version from os4depot too, to get the docs.

How to load a adf in E-UAE, not how to mount a imagefile (like adf or iso) under OS4.x...

Ok.

Anyway, I uploaded a new version with lowered minimum requirements.. i.e. V50+ instead of V53+ .. hope that will solve it.
[quote]
That one is working, thanks.

But is V50 not a bit low?
OS4.0 A1-Final and OS4.0 Classic are V52, and i dont think that somebody still uses an older OS4.0 version on his A1 because the updates are free.

EDIT:
two points:
- it's not possible to de-iconify
- it eats all CPU time (could be the E-UAE part)

@Cyborg

Well, thanks.

But it seems to need OS4.1.1.

If you simply type uae in a Shell, a lot of windows pop up complaining over too old (<V53) libraries and if you klick away all errors, it crashes with a DSI.

Download usblist and unarc it somewhere.
Launch usbstat

If you have a Dot4 printer attached you will get a line which says 7,1,3 as per this example:
010 free ID 03f0:0e17 (7,1,3) Hewlett-Packard, hp LaserJet 1015

If it isn't Dot4 it will say 7,1,1 or 7,1,2.

At least here, I never get anything about IEEE 1284.4 in usb.log.

Thanks, that will be useful for others - i already know that my HP Business InkJet 1200 is a PCL3GUI printer.

@rwo

You could write a small OS4.x tool that checks if a printer uses dot4, and the users here could run it and check if somebody has a dot4 printer.

- The limits mentioned in the 1.245 notes were wrong, sorry. The actual
partition size limit of SFS 1.x is 128 GB, no matter which blocksize
you are using. Changed the checks to the actual limits. You can
continue to use too large partitions, but you may get "disk full"
errors (instead of a trashed partition) even if there is still free
space on the partition.

Read SYS:Documentation/Intuition/NewControls to find some nice things like dragging windows by clicking anywhere in it or resizing them from all 4 corners/sides.

Your key to the AmigaOS users is Hyperion, get them to support your board and you will get much more OS4 users interrested for your board.
