did you get one? have you got it running yet?
what configs, drivers are you using? I have one but it seems to clash with the 3com lan.
although Ranger sees it and reports it working but not set up.

Yeah, I got one (a 3com 802.11b PCI card), and it runs (but isnt in use at the mo).
I'm using Neil Cafferkey's Prism2 drivers, and Curtis Holborn's WifiSignal - works well, but I havent worked out how to get it to do WEP properly yet !
could be that I've got the passcode wrong, or the parameters wrong on SetPrism2defaults.

If you used AmiUpdate for installing it the new shared objects used by 1.13+ should have been installed automatically, but if you installed it manually you have to download sobjs.lha from my homepage as well and copy the Sobjs/#? files to SOBJS: and from the OWB archive OWB/Workbench/Devs/curl-ca-bundle.crt to DEVS:.

This, in the end was what I did - AmiUpdate didnt like not being able to connect to the strohmeyer site - but this has been mentioned elsewhere as a problem with ports and AmiUpdate !

works brilliantly - although I don't like the back/forward buttons being disabled while the previous page is loaded - but thats just me I guess.
Also, it does seem to go t1ts up on some sites - but the rendering looks fantastic compared to iBrowse !

Have you also downloaded the sobj file ? they are required with these new versions of OWB and you can find them in the strohmayer page

as opposed to the ones in the OWB 1.15 lha archive ?
hmmm... no. 'ang on...

I'm probably being dense, but I've just installed 1.15, and am getting the old 'ELF Library' popup - "Required object is missing", and I can't remember how to fix it ! I did have 1.12 working fine(ish) before I updated.

@Skov

IIRC the uA1's were a little less finicky about thier RAM, but it was still quite specific, due to the Articia S Chipset, which unfortunately did make the RAM a bit more expensive - but hey, what price stability ?

I bought 512MB for my XE at ?100 which seemed steep at the time, but I've hardly had any trouble with it (other than dodgy software perhaps !!) in the past 4.5 years.

I just use Ctrl-C in the CLI window where i started MPlayer.

Well, actually, i now have an amidock icon for radio 2 which i created by putting the mplayer call in a text file and giving it an iconx icon. I just give it a Ctrl-C in the resulting CON window when i'm done.

That'll be it then - I've been dropping the URL into the MPlayer GUI ...

Oh for an OS4 equivalent to the kill command...

-edit-
although I guess an arrangement with a stop icon on a button could be done via REXX or AmigaDOS...

@xeron

I tried it out with 5live, last night. is there anyway of switching it off, other than the ol' three finger salute ?
I had to do that, as the stream kept a comin, even when I'd shut down Mplayer !

I only played Dynamite once or twice, but I'm a fan of Bomberman games.

PAYBACK
-works under certain conditions, but doesn't feel much stable. No sound, some menu options freeze the whole machine, but it's possible to play.

WARPSNES
-used to crash, but I guess it was because it expected to find the amigainput libs. Copied those and it runs fine and with USB joystick support apparently unscathed!

TZER0
-does not work...

NAPALM
-got much further than I'd ever did (the actual game pointer showed up), but then it's black screen all the way.

how would T-zer0 work ? unless you're either: using E-UAE, or a Classic with OS4...

Lets hope they didn't reflashed it with a software containing a limited interface (to prevent ppl from doing things to save themselves dealing with configs more complex than defaults they decided on).
Any "login" dialog there? Usually one has to authorize to get access to the settings.

Jack

nuffin' ! only status stuff - probably locked/reflashed, like you say ! after all even the computer illiterate can get a broadband connection !

I wont bother to look then. thanks for saving me th'effort

Didn't notice earlier that you were in the UK, why are VM handing out something like that? My cable modem is tiny (and VM branded too). Are you in an analogue-only cable area or something?

Chris

no, digital.
it is tiny, I guess they havent got any virgin branded ones in our depot ! our area went digital about 8 years ago. Scientific Atlanta used to do the analogue tv boxes - thats where I recognised the brand from.

Looks like you have the "WEBStar dpc2100" model (the one in the link provided by Chris). The ports are: power/RJ45/USB/cable in.
Accroding to the manuals, it's possible to wire 2 devices to it. Use RJ45 with A1.
I tried to google for web interface info and found this here:

It's a WebStar DPC2100.
I just discovered that you can indeed connect to it via Web Interface, through 192.168.100.1

Good luck
Jack

I'll give that IP a go this weekend. 1st task is to see if I can get me works laptop to VPN through the A1/OS4 and the cable, to the Work network.

I'm with you there ! my A1 is my main computer, and the only way for me to run OS4, so if it died, I'd be forced to consider some less palatable alternatives.
anyone in the UK do A1 board repairs/reworks ?

I think I'd prefer to courier it myself, and watch the work !

Anyway, that won't have a firewall on it, you'll need a router as well, then do what Jack suggests.

On mine (a Linksys wrt54gc - yes, it's a cable one) it has a few firewall settings, and options to restrict access to sites/services and forward ports to machines internal to the LAN. The port forwarding thingy is the only bit I ever need to touch (for networked games of Freespace or whatever)

I probably will - I was just wondering if it was worth saving some wedge by using a software one, and the A1 as a hub.

Cable box lan side is ethernet (probably with dhcp).
In case of setup without modem the way to set "non-software" firewall is inside the box.
The box itself usually has a web inteface accessible from lan side.
I guess pointing your web browser to the IP address of the gateway is the way to access the interface (http://whatever_the_numbers_are).
The tricky bit is to find the admin wuthentication data
(start with combinations for username/password like:
Admin/Admin
admin/admin
root/admin
ect.

Or google for the manuals of the specific model (if they are not on some CD you got with the hardware).
Or google for forums.
Usually there's a limited number of setups that can appear on different devices (they don't reinvent the wheel and several different devices can have same interface)

Once you're in, lookfor firewall, forwarding rooles or similar.
There's also should be a reset to defaults button somewhere if you screw things.

Jack

its just a bog standard cheapo box from Scientific Atlanta, with a bunch of status LEDs on the front, and 4 ports on the back - no reset switch AFAICT... but then its 6 miles awy, and I could be mistaken !

@Jack

Interesting...what was the middle bit ?

I take it that basically applies for Cable as well (I'm not on ADSL) except for re-dialling, as Cable is just a basic Ethernet connection as far as Roadshow is concerned.

Is there anything I can read online about configuring this, or do I have to wait til I'm back on a proper computer (currently at work on my ex-pee box!)
