I played around more with TW today.

Lower screen modes seem to help with CPU load not staying at 100%
for such a long time, but changing the mouse input mode to it's
lowest level makes the most difference.

High speed (sensativity) + accelerated mouse are the worst for
CPU load with the TW window active.

Another obsevation is with a 640x480 16bit screen and mouse set
to minimum + no acceleration;
If I hit a key (d in this case) while the pointer is on a active
TW window the CPU goes to 100%
Putting the pointer off TW onto workbench hitting 'd' the CPU load
will not go as high and return low quicker.

Running TW and CPUwatcher.

After some time of inactivity CPU load will drop to 3-4% .

As long as TW window is active, slight mouse movements or hitting a single key will send CPU load to 100% for a long time.
Even if the mouse movement is off of the TW window.

TW window NOT active, CPU load is normal.

Bookmarks work just fine for me. Maybe the two are related???

Probably should not be replying. Not my forte.

Since the program caters to 5 file systems, are you sure you are looking at ATAPI?

Or, do any of the other file systems use 10 bytes for
the b9 command?

WOW! Was I shocked to read in Amiga Future that all the X1000 First Contact
systems have been received by those that got on the list.

Must be a language thing, as I'm still waiting for that second "It's ready"
e-mail.

Ah,well. When I called mid Febuary they said it would be a few more weeks.

Grumble, grumble, grumble.

Re: Mixer and High-Pitch-noise

There was another discussion somewhere(?) about Mixer.
Mixer and AHI are independent of one another. In simple terms
the mixer controls/modifies the hardware registers for input and
AHI is looking at the hardware output.

So when you start Mixer it changes the values in the hardware and
of course this is reflected in the AHI output. Known issues.

A temporary solution that I'm using is to start Mixer, start AmigaAmp3,
start playing a small mp3, move the PCM slider on mixer just slightly,
stop Play on AmigaAmp. This holds a channel open in AHI and stops those
annoying POPS whenever a new sound stream starts. It's also a pain in
the neck.

If you check AmigaAmp prefs>Audio, you will see a setting for-Keep AHI
Unit Open.

I do not have, and can't make my system, produce this nasty noise on
either channel. It could also be a bad shield somewhere in the wiring,
but you have probably ruled that out already.

Of course an easy solution to that left side noise is to turn the headphones
around.

Side note*

Would anybody like to try Timidity? I've done some work on the configuration
files and it should be easier to setup properly now. I would have to email
you a file.

the rest of the info is right, its a M-Audio revo 7.1 vendor is VIA Tech...

I guess further investigation is needed to see if that is supported.
Take a look at the Mixer Icon info. There is an option that reads
NO_VIA, make sure it reads (NO_VIA).

If I find more info I'll post here.

EDIT:
After looking at the mixer code I believe the NO_VIA option is
only for the early A1's with the sound on the 686 bridge chip.

Mixer should (I think) use the same cards as AHI. One point may
be that mixer reads the AHI setup when starting so be sure to
set AHI up first for the card, save it and do a soft reboot
before starting mixer.

The easy way is to use Ranger from OS4depot and click on the PCI Bus tab.
It should list 2 audio devices. Then go to http://www.pcidatabase.com and
do a vendor or device search for the numbers. This will give the name of
the chip used on the card, not who made the card.

If Ranger does not see the PCI audio chips perhaps the card has a problem.

I can play a AVI file from harddisk with Mplayer and a dvd with DVplayer at the same time, but only get sound from the first one started.

Not bad for a 440ep.

This is for the cards with a EMU10K1 chip.
When I get my Amiga with PCIe (soon, I hope) then I'll try
a SoundBlaster PCIe. AFAIK the PCIe cards all have the
emu20kx series chips.

At this point, I just don't know.

Sam440ep - SBLive! SB-0220 OS4.1up4

I had some spare time and started messing about with various settings
in AHI and Mixer for a SBLive! EMU10k1 sound card. I'll get back to it
soon I hope but in the mean time the following may be of interest to others
with the same card and a 5.1 sound system.

AHI setup.

1.For all units select EMU10kx 16 bit 7.1 multichannel
2. set all sliders far left for all Units except Unit 0.
3. for Unit0
---set Frequency to 48000 Hz
---Channels = 4
---Volume = -3.0db
---Monitor = Muted
---Gain = +0.0 db
---Input = Mixer (far left)
---Output = Front & Rear
In Advanced settings set
---Debug - None
---CPU usage - 94%
---anti-click 0ms
---Volume scaling = -6 db

Save it.

Open Mixer.

1. Select emu10kx.
2. Set all Monitor sliders to bottom and Mute them by clicking on the
- -speakers at the top.
3. Set Playback Master slider to -6.0dB
4. set Playback PCM to (+) 3.0dB
5. Click Save.

6. Just for good measure reboot the OS.

Start the Mixer.
Play a video, CD, Timidity, or something. Once the sound level is where
you want it set with your speaker system start playing with the two active
sliders on the mixer. move them slowly until the sound is positioned where
it's best for what you are listening to.

If you find something more about this.....let us know.

No idea.

Here is some KS info. Should probably start a new thread if more discussion is needed.

;MODULE Kickstart/gameport.device.kmod - - -Joystick/MIDI port on cards like SBLive!

;MODULE Kickstart/it8212ide.device.kmod - - -SATA RAID controller

;MODULE Kickstart/lsi53c8xx.device.kmod - - -SCSI card

;MODULE Kickstart/sii0680ide.device.kmod - |
;MODULE Kickstart/sii3112ide.device.kmod - | My SAM440ep only has sii3114ide SATA.
;MODULE Kickstart/sii3512ide.device.kmod - -|

;MODULE Kickstart/3dfxVoodoo.chip

;MODULE Kickstart/uhci.usbhcd - - - - - - - - - -| VIA / Intel USB. Needed for MAI boards onboard USB
- or add-in cards that may use it.

There is no way Hyperion can know what is in your computer, so they load everything. I think the only
time I have heard of a problem with a module is something about USB and the LSI module on the ATX
MAI boards, but can't confirm.

For the most part,,,,If it's not in your computer, you don't need to load it. If you comment it out by
inserting a semicolon in front of the line in Kicklayout and get a problem - remove the semicolon.

Be back later.

My 440ep is still picky as to which ports will be active from cold
boot and which will need plug-in after the system is up.

Working:

-Belkin 4 port hub F5U007 USB1.0
-Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter
-Digital Innovations Wireless Mouse & Kbd.
