SMBFS 2.1

See User information
The incredible Hul...err, Olaf Barthel has released a new version of SMBFS.

Two years of hard work went into it and it has received a lot of love and new features.

Get it here while it's hot and juicy.

Also, if you're into technical stuff, feast your eyes on the mighty changelog

Quote:

This is the first new major release of the file system, which in the previous two years has been thoroughly rewritten to provide for better compatibility and to follow the available SMBv1/CIFS specification where possible.

New features include (but are not limited to) support for Unicode, large files (> 4 GB) and reconnecting to the server if a connection has broken down/timed out.

Thank you, Olaf

Edit:
Bah, that should have been posted in the general software category as there is an 68k version aswell

Tested on my old WD blue-ring NAS and works!!!

Previous versions didn't wotk, was using v1.074 since looong time.
Now with v2.1 (and adding NETBIOS argument) works fine.

thanks for this update, it is really appreciate as it allow the amiga to have, again, shared folders with other systems like windows, mac and linux and give the amiga the possibility to use nas as server to store important files like the sources of programs... I would like to make a donation for all of this.. is there a way to donate something to Olaf?

Olaf is a really nice guy and we are very lucky to have him spending time on SMBFS. He is very modest (seems to go with brilliance) and does accept PayPal.

His PayPal information is in the contact information section of this page: http://os4depot.net/index.php?functio ... nt/utility/subversion.lha

Let's show some appreciation for all the time he has devoted to this project.

Installed it on my X5000, but unfortunately I just get a Grim Reaper.

I'll have to send Olaf a crash log.

Too bad

I don't think it was tested on X5000 at all (due to missing hardware).
So he'll sure be delighted to get it and fix it eventually

It works here on X5000..

Btw I can access the share as SMBFS: from Shell.

However SMBFS: assign doesn't appear in apps like DirMEUP or Workbench Explorer.

Which network adapter are you using? It could also be my NAS that is causing the problem (Western Digital MyCloud).

Yes, it's working fine. I haven't done much experimenting with it, but I backed up a partition to my NAS last night no problems.

He's even managed to fix a very weird little bug which I was having with 1.173 (which he shared with me back in August).

Emotion doesn't supporting loading a file by command line. I repurposed an arexx script that someone wrote for ArtEffect, which similarly can't open a file by command line. I call it from Filer. When I use it on my WD MyCloud, it would work once, and then the second time would lock the system out, although the mouse would still move.

This works in 2.1 now.

Sweet.

Yes, a lot of work was done on this version.

I had a bug where it refused to save to the NAS from ScummVM/ResidualVM.
Turned out the file creation these two programs used wasn't supported in smbfs, same as with SDK's "touch" command which he used as test case.

Also fixed and working great.

There is, however, still a creepy bug (fortunately only in the debug build) that lets my system take a deep dive into the freeze pool (system stalls, albeit the mouse can still be moved and if you have something open, e.g. a shell, you can still type, but no program will be started anymore and nothing else works ).
Needs a reboot.

If you got the time (and the guts ) you could test if that happens on your X5000 as well (with the debug build).

Simply mark more then 2 files/drawers on your NAS and send them to "Information" (WB PD menu - Icons/Information)

We are hunting this for a long time now...

I've migrated my Linux Server to a Mac Pro and while every other system can access SMB shares, SMBFS AmigaOS (and MorphOS) can't.

I get : smbfs: Could not connect to server 'MacProSrv' (10000, end of file).

Is there something specific to do ?

hope Olaf can see this post and fix the problem.. in the weekend i will try with my debian setup and the sam440ep to see if I have the same problem and in case it would be nice if it will be fixed..

smbfs worked fine and it is an easy and free way to exchange datas between the systems..
