OS4 netbook!
Supreme Council
Supreme Council

See User information
Hmm, both ssolie and Rogue has confirmed that there will be a netbook for os4.

That would be very interesting indeed :)

Details:

Price: $300 - $500 including OS4 license.
It's a specific AmigaOS product. PowerPC based.
Prototype has external VGA port.
Prototype can use external USB mouse and keyboard.
Delivered with OS4 preinstalled

Comments by Rogue:

Thus is all subject to change, so don't complain to me when any or all of the items below do not make it onto the final device:

- It's a netbook. That means it isn't intended to compete with a desktop system. It is using an integrated graphics chip. No RadeonHD. No PA Semi.

- Price point will be the complete system, including AmigaOS 4. Hopefully, it will be around $300, but we cannot say this for sure yet so calculate a price of $300 to $500.

- The prototypes we have (plural, yes) all have 2 USB ports, internal audio with external jack plugs for headsets/microphone, Keyboard and touch-pad mouse.

- The prototypes have built-in Wireless and wired ethernet. Whether both or just one of them will be on the final device I do not know yet.

- Internal mass storage. Don't ask me about the capacity, few gigs AFAIR.

- The prototypes have 512 MB memory -I think-. No idea about the size of the final product.

- AmigaOS *is* running on the device, although in a very early state. There are questions to be answered still, so the tentative release date is somewhere near the middle of 2012.

- It's NOT used Mac hardware

I can confirm it too. There will be an AmigaOS 4 netbook.

EDIT: Yes it has an external VGA connector, at least my prototype has. It can also operate on external USB keyboard and mouse

Seriously, if you do want to contact me write me a mail. You're more likely to get a reply then.

That news are even better than x1000 should to say. I mean, while x1000 are cool and powerfull, with all that future-possible SMP and stuff, still, that will not attract new/old users/developers which we so need. Or just not so many.

But cheap netbook, which anyone can buy just by ordering it at any shop, then just bying licence for it, will give us (i am almost sure about that) new users and devs (as well as old one, which swith off from aos4 because of expencive HW, will think about migrating back).

Really cool.

I just hope you can hook up an external monitor to it.

External monitor, +onboard radeonhd, +cpu at least with 600-700-800mhz. That will be _yeah_

Just for clarification, this will come with AmigaOS 4.x installed. You don't buy an extra license for it, and AFAIR, the cost of AmigaOS was included in the price quoted by Steven.

At least its very cheap then. Interesting through what kind of CPU and GFXcard on it.

Anyway, did i understand right, that it will be some special netbook done by acube or others, and not something popular ? Or it will be some popular model, just will be solds from amiga-dealers with preinstalled os on it ?

I just trying to understnand, will it possible to just buy HW somethre elese (to avoid amiga-dealers) and then, just buy a licence for ?

This is a must buy for me... Since becoming a father my MicroA1 has been packed away making room for the baby - but a laptop would bring Amiga back to my everyday life!

When can I preorder?

Oh, and what price did SSolie mention?

MicroA1 - 800Mhz G3, 512MB
A1200 - 50Mhz 030, 16MB
CD32

No, this is a specific product for AmigaOS, not just any netbook. It's a PowerPC-based system.

@Skov
$300 - $500. Hopefully closer to the first number than to the second.

Anyway, for 300$ it does not matter where to buy it. PPC Netbook for 300$ with aos4 - that is absolutly good and rigth step to attracting new users/devs. I just can't belive that it will be like this. Maybe even aos4 have some interesting future after all :)

Through what speed of cpu, what onboard gfx card and can we hookup external monitor to it are very interesting to know :)

It is a must-buy for me even at 500, so any price lower than that is just a nice bonus...

WOW!!!

Hmmm,.... WOW!!!!!!!!

(NOT "world of warcraft" )

Okay, I will buy one, NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

I can afford the ~$500 price relatively easily (US and Canadian dollars are almost the same now).

If it's in the 600 to 800 MHz range, I'll be more likely to buy TWO in 2012! (Seriously!)

If it's around $400 (tax is 12% here) and at least 600 MHz, I may even get a THIRD one to support Amiga!

This IS in addition to one NatAmi.

Support Amiga Fantasy cases!!!
How to program: 1. Start with lots and lots of 0's. 10. Add 1's, liberally.
