Ehm... i'm trying to install OS4 final.. i want a fresh install. Installation CD freeze my A1 after choosing locale. Anyone with the same problem?

I see a grey bar on top of the screen. Mouse is frozen.

I could try an update, but for this time i wanted to start from 0.

Rebooted using cdrw drive instead dvd and now works. Don't know if it was dvd drive or a reboot needed.

We had a similar problem during testing of the ISO. In that case it seemed to have a flaky CD-RW, using a CD-R solved the problem.

Seriously, if you do want to contact me write me a mail. You're more likely to get a reply then.

No problem installing. Just can't get sound to work on DVplayer! Worked fine under pre-release4. Still investigating!

MakeCD could recognise my plextor burner so i tryed
it with the ibook. First unpack it with DropUnLHa and
then open the iso, then select all files and put them
in the burner-map and then burn the cd.

I have done a second boot-partition, copyed all my OS4
update 4 files over to it and now i am installing OS4 Finall
on to that. Just to see if he can do an update.

Till later...

Edit:

Shoot, seams that it is not an iso, and so not a bootable cd.
The partition that i updated seems now an non-dos-disk so
it is not a good way of doing.

Ohwell, i will fix that at our next meeting.

@TrevorDick:

What about installing the a52.library from os4depot? Is it helps? (Installing means: downloading and copying to libs:avcodecs/)

A1-XE/G4@933+Radeon7500/64MB, A1200BPPC+BVision
AmigaOS4 on both of course.

My installation failed (using a CD-RW)... it could not copy some "USERS" (?) file... After a reboot, I now got a black screen and nothing else !

Burning again AOS4_Upd4 I'm hoping to be able to reboot from it and copy back the Upd4_system_files (which I luckily backed up just before trying this Installation...)

Duh! That's the problem installing the OS from scratch. You forget all the little fixes and update files you had to download to make all the programs work in the first place. I'll download the a52.library and report back.

UPDATE: a52.library copied to libs:avcodecs and DVplayer now has sound!

Many thanks and Merry Xmas.

@All,

I believe I found my problem... It failed at 38% while trying to copy the Prefs/Presets... When trying to copy this folder manually, it says: Object in use ! I closed everything I could just before starting the install...
I will try to boot from the AOS4_Upd4 CD, and then run this Install from there...

PS: I'm doing an update instead of a fresh install...

I am trying to use a windows xp laptop to put OS4 final on a cd. I am having trouble accessing the lha archive.

Would someone please use head on the final archive and show me what the header looks like.

Using head to look at the header of the archive shows this:
C:\cygwin\home\work>head InstallCD-52.6.lha

!?-lh5-?u?? x??p~5 ?install.isoE5!O+U??'oY?y???'u^?^???+?-,O?,E?"??A,A`I?O,?VR$
TTr?Nvs`?^?<`?,(??O1?[???EW?1TG?I?\?0??h???U) I

Creating a test file with lha255 on this windows box then using head to see the header shows this:
C:\cygwin\home\work>head lha255te.lzh

?m-lh5-x O ???4 ??1.CPP+?M {Sv?????k??SA?x4h'[mm?'t>v'nO???????zb^ǣZ0?g?
A@DwE ?Y?#Mc]^<?FR,??z'4?$$T????m??I?J??s?a_[n?u`?O|?c1?k??Ar"UPuOAyu??>-lh5-' ?

?;M?1a?I?8`t>JE?]-??"

Where can I find an lha program for this windows box that will recognize this archive?

dont update as things like sys:tools dont exist anymore.
the iso is designed for fresh install.

Don't do that, it will fail.

There are numerous pitfalls, the missing Tools is one of them, or the old AHI drivers that don't work anymore, etc...

Make a backup of your system disk, and re-format it, then do a clean install... There is a reason we're not offering an Upgrade option anymore...

And if you get this "Object in use" message, it means that you are trying to install over the system you just booted. You would be better off booting from the CD.
