Is it possible to temporarily downgrade? Can I downgrade some of the Kickstart modules to make it work?

The only kernel needs to be downgraded (Joerg adds some kind of protection to make AmiDVD not works on all kernels below 53.99, don't ask why :) ), so all previous kernels will fits (one from update1 for example will be fine).

Is it enough to just patch his binary to remove that test??

That would be awesome, if someone could do it. I guess he doesn't just check for the version of kernel. He might has some more complicated way to test it. But worth a try.

iirc the sources have never been freed/purchased/sold, so even tinkering with the binary (hex-editing it to workaround the check f.e., if that is even possible) would be a breach of contract, I think.

A breach of contract with whom? With A-Eon and Enhancer package?

it may or may not have a 'no reverse engineering' clause in its license. But what you do in the privacy of your own home is your business. Releasing some instructions how to mod it in a binary editor or releasing whatever the OS4 version of a spatch file is is also not something anyone can stop you doing. This is all hypothetical of course.

Exactly what I thought. I guess anyone would have issues if patches it and tries to sell it.

But we are used to patch our system, aren't we. Before AmigaOS 3.2 our machines were so patched, that you barely knew what is original any more. :D

If there is a released patch out there that could make the app usable again, and the user choose to patch it or not, I don't see the problem with that, to be honest.

But I am not a lawyer.

download fryingpan and use that, it works alot better
supports what the drive supports, speeds etc. just remember to put in a disc in the drive when you set it up, otherwise you might get the impression that it doesn't support your drive or something... you MUST have a disc in the drive or else fryingpan won't even show the drive unit in the selector

It opens it's window on my X5000. For some strange reason, my X5000 uses CD1: as the first CD instead of CD0: when the first blank CD-RW is inserted. Each time a CD is removed and another one inserted the CD # is incremented (e.g. CD1: CD2: CD3: etc.)

I have AmiDVD version 1.51 installed on my system and use this procedure to get the AmiDVD window to open:
1. Boot or reboot the system.
2. Change the DRIVE tooltype in the AmiDVD icon to CD1 (DRIVE=CD1)
3. Insert a blank CD-RW in the CD drive.
4. Double-click the AmiDVD

I haven't tried to burn a CD since installing OS4FE update1 on my system and have not yet installed update2 so I don't know yet if the above procedure will work with update2.

I fear you'll find that Update 2 contains a kernel with version number 54, which seems to be the number the author of AmiDVD decided would be too big to support (or whatever).

OTOH, you may find that the new p50x0sata.device in Update 2 has solved the issue with the ever changing CD device names.

Best regards,

Niels
