X5000 MCU Led Blinking - Not Booting
Not too shy to talk

Dear all

After 5 years, this morning my X5000 suddenly stopped working. I was doing the daily OS4 beta-testing..After a reboot it stopped working.

After pressing the power button, CPU fan starts to spin 1/2 seconds and stops. After some seconds , MCU Error Led starts to blink.

Here is the video (4 seconds)

https://youtu.be/Olkg7Fmr21o

I tried:

Re-seated MicroSD card
Re-flashed, changed MicroSD. Tried 3 different SD Cards
Removed all PCI cards, memory
Replaced battery with a new one.
Tried with 3 different PSUs

Anyone had a similar problem ? Is this repairable ?

I know your pain .

Possible that either one of the components or the Motherboard itself may have developed a short.

Best to open up a support ticket with Amigakit if you have not done so yet.

Don't know how much experience they have gained in repairing X5000 mother boards over the last 2 years .
My original motherboard warranty repairs never got off the ground .

I opened a ticket with AmigaKit.
As a last try, I will try with a new RAM module.

What happened to your X5000 ?

Good luck.

My motherboard was a full price purchase .
A-EON said my damage was not covered for free repairs or replacement under the warranty.
About 9 Months later I was offered a discount on a replacement motherboard as it was going to take a while for any possible paid repairs.
I have up to now not taken up that offer.
So no X5000 now for over 2 years .

Despite not knowing the actual details of your case, I would still expect a better offer. Heck, you're a customer who bough a £1,900 computer, not a £5 boingball mousepad!

X5000 Motherboard only so in the US$1625.00 range then .

Similar to Sinan .
Was working in the morning. Turned off.
Tried to turn of afternoon of the same day and nothing. Not even blinking light or any fan movement .
Was on a UPS and the powersupply was ok.

Officials A-EON Finding:
Some substance appeard to be on the Motherboard.
Something was casusing a short.

Also had a Tabor die on me during the warranty period prior to purchasing the X5000 .

Flashing lights and brief spin of the fan .
Damage not covered by Warranty.
Official A-Eon finding :
Corrosion around the NIC area.

I trust that my issues were just bad luck and that nothing like that lurks for other A-Eon customers down the road.

I am one of the early adapters (my name is printed on the back side of X5000..). I also use a UPS and powersupply is ok.

I have informed Matthew and opened a ticket on AmigaKit website.

My X5000's problem is similar to your A1222.

(I also have A1222, I hope it does not die, too)

I hope I get some feedback from A-Eon/AmigaKit soon. But under Covid restricitons, economical troubles e.t.c, I fear that solving that will be not easy :(

Hopefully you will get a quick resolution .

Do you happen live in an area that might have higher than usual sulphide gas emissions ?

Interesting that you both are using a UPS. Would be interesting to know if other with a broken X5000 or A1222 used a UPS.

Thas just bizarre!
Besides you being a customer of an very very expensive mainboard, you also contributed and helped many Linux users in the past. (like me for example when i started with linux on my X5000)

I would have expected a better offer from AmigaKit....

And at the end.... good produced mainboards dont just die...

Currently just one definitively public broken board of each type. Both Mine .

Sianan's issue still needs to be troubleshooted by AmigaKit and if not resolution then motherboard examined by them .

Life has many twists and turns .
I notice A-Cube have just possible sent up a flare to remind us that they are still in the game.

True, maybe I'm mixing things up with people having their X1000 dying in the past (I know of at least one).

I hooked up a USB-TTL cable to one of X5000 inner serial port, I received some output.
It gives two errors..

Have you looked at the data sheets for P5020:

https://www.nxp.com.cn/docs/en/data-sheet/P5020.pdf

I do not know whether it can help to fix the problem but at least you can see more precisely what is not working... (e.g Vdd_ca, page 57)

VDD_CA = Core Group A (core 0) supply voltage.

If I am not mistaken 1st core of the P5020 has a voltage problem..

I can't find any reference to Xorro, it must be special to this design.

I have informed AmigaKit, but got no reply yet.

I wish AEON can supply us a repair manual for X5000. As the boards go older, more people will need it perhaps.

Maybe A-Eon can commission Acube as a repair centre in the near future ?

Have you pulled the board out of the case and looked at the other side?

Maybe there is something broken on that side.

Good Luck!

Is your Cyrus board a beta revision (2.1)? Have you ever changed the CPU fan or is it still the original one? If I remember right there was some improvement concerning the CPU fan in the later 2.2 revision.

Is the ambient temperature in your area very high...? If you have a new CPU fan at hands, and some properly cooled place nearby, it might be good idea to test whether the problem is anyhow dependent on temperature. If the issue is inside the P5020 as it seems to be, even a small temperature change may have effect on it.

A repair center (preferably inside EU, as AmigaKit/Varisys will soon be outside) would be a good idea!
