Announcing David Pleasance to speak at Amiwest 2020, Oct 24th

Sacramento, CA. Amiwest 2020, the longest-running North American Amiga only computer show is happening this weekend, Oct 24th and 25th.

We are very excited to announce David Pleasance as a speaker. David Pleasance is an iconic figure in the Amiga Universe as the former MD of Commodore UK. David has been busy in recent years with the release of his book “Commodore -- The Inside Story” and has announced a collaboration with Amiwest regular Trevor Dickinson called “From Vultures to Vampires.” This will be David’s first Amiwest appearance and will join live on the Amiwest broadcast.

With the global pandemic, there has been a change in the format both in-person and for the Amiwest broadcast. For those attending in person, the full complement of COVID-19 procedures is in place. Given the restrictions on the number of people allowed on the show floor, the Amiwest organizers decided to greatly expand the Amiwest broadcast efforts.

This year's broadcast will start at 10 AM Pacific time and feature 10 speakers. We are expecting new product announcements and lots of content for every member of the Amiga community. It will truly be the Amiga event of 2020.

See you online!

Good news, hopefully we will get some real answers.

Im still concerned the lack of Hyperion Brass presence + explanation and detailed progress of this year especially regarding commitment and AmigaOS API improvements.

Also would like to see Hyperion Entertainment seperate video from the developers themselves, just to remove any doubt that AmigaOS work not gone down to a crawl due to lack of or lowered involvement by Friedens.

Its only right to have a time slot allocated for Hyperion, even if a no show and also an empty seat to show everyone that Hyperion is welcome at their own products show.

Frankly, if Hyperion dont submit a video speech it could be seen as the ultimate disrespect for the users of its own products.

The things AmigaOS needs for 2021 are :

POSIX standards compliance
Hypervisor
Rust
Node.js
Abstract Frameworks, DOMs and developer componants.

Auto Function list to library generator

Hardware accelerated HTML and Deserialization of JSON.

Consistant open source firmware across all hardware

Self bootstrappable kernal to any alien cpu in seconds. eg CLisp and SBCL.

Time will tell at Amiwest 2020.

Keep up the great work as usual A++.

Remember that Hyperion didn't have any representation at last year's AmiWest, either.

I am sure that if Hyperion actually cared, the time slot would definitely have been allocated for them.

I agree that Hyperion doing something positive and interacting would be nice...

As for your other points, I wrote a tool to generate libraries from parsing the header files from a library's source code and it's at http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/libgen. As for JSON, I ported jansson, using libgen, and it's at http://os4depot.net/?function=showfil ... /misc/jansson_library.lha

cheers

Have heard Dave many times before.
His interest is the historic Commodore story. Don’t expect ANY insight or in depth knowledge of anything NG related.

Remember Dave was the sales guy at Commodore UK. His level of tech knowledge is not a patch on the learned enthusiasts who grace this hallowed forum. ;)

I assume they would if there would be something new to report

In discussions here Amigakit openly said that "NG" (4.X) is only creating losses, money is earned with what people here call "classic". That also means that only money is made for Hyperion with 3.1.4 (and 3.2) and not with development of 4.X. Motivation by volunteers working for free today obviously is low and thus activity is low. Betatesters like Kas1e reported that there is not much activity right now and even fixes are not published.

So what do you seriously expect to be new from Hyperion?

I do not know if there is something new there regarding enhancer or Tabor (Aeon) but I would not seriously expect news from Hyperion.

Nice!

Looking forward to those as well.

BTW, you forgot to change the Last update date above the schedule.

See you all online (at least as long as I can keep myself awake ).

Best regards,

Niels
