Heretic II and Freespace.

Finally got round to picking these up.
(Cheers Amigakit, fast service as ever).

Haven't attempted to run them under 3.9 for various reasons, but have tried under OS4.

The registration code after installing Heretic II works fine with the game but cannot be used to register on the Hyperion site.
Seems to suggest I haven't used enough digits?

The game does load but I have two screens .
When I move the character, the character on the other screen directly below it moves half a second later.

Freespace keeps complaining that it can't access the ChunkyPPC.library V31, but I have the latest one installed.

I am using a BPPC with a Voodoo 5500 and a Mediator.

Can anyone shed any light?

Cheers.

Freespace works for me here, I installed it from disk then downloaded the OS4 freespace version from the hyperion website. Tried that?

I haven't got Heretic II working yet, or WipeOut, but apparently I need some files which were on a pre OS4 final update to get wipeout working.

Why the heck they couldn't have been included in the final update is beyond me. I wonder when the Update for OS4/A1 users will be out and if it will contain the missing files?

Anyone from the OS4 Development team care to shed any light on this please?

Yes mate, wouldn't get as far as I am without it I wouldn't have thought.
(Though haven't tried without)

@Mikey

I downloaded it but the bottled out.
A quick look suggested that might be more applicable to the A1

I will make a copy of the current installation and then try the updates for OS4.
Failing that, I might even try the updates for 3xx.

Cheers.

I've had exactly the same problem with registering HereticII. Contact them and they will give you a new registration code.

My 'consumer's confidence' in Amiga software certainly took a dive after reading this. What's the 'real' problem?

Cheers mate, will do.

@All

Well I took the plunge and installed the OS4 update for freespace.
All is now well.
Slight glitch with graphics on the intro, but the game is fine.(Also very good)

The problem with two screens in Heretic only occurs when Double or Triple Buffering is used.

Heretic is dog slow at the min, but I haven't got Warp3d working yet, so will see what happens.
Hopefully there will also be something useful available when I register.

freespace is also working here (A1G4/512Mo/Radeon7500) but it seems the highest resolution is 640x480 and even with all details (in software mode of course), it is fast !

BTW freespace CD contains heretic II demo...

Here, Freespace is the only game wich would not work !
All every games run faster but until I installed WarposEmu, Freespace refused and that's the same message as Mikey c --------> Couldn't open Chunkyppc lib ???
Before, I used the patch made by Hyperion and Freespace was working very fine and it was realy very fast !
So, what can we do to run Freespace ? This game is so great !

Why not just run it without WarpOSEmul? I am and was before WarpOSEmul was released.

Heretic is dog slow at the min, but I haven't got Warp3d working yet,

Software rendering at 640x480 should be playable at least it her.
if try to play it at 800x600 you find it to be where slow.

running Freespace with OS4 exe and warposemu installed (never tried it before).
the only grief is that the external mov player (moovid) does not work as explained in the os4 exe readme, with the options moovid NOGUI AHI AUTOPLAY (I did not try mplayer though !)

it shuld work on 233mhz 604e so yes if you use a tiny screenmodes it shuld work. same whit WipeOut2007

runs better in smaller screenmodes, in fact WipeOut2007 runs too fast in 320x256@90

About Heretic II registration, Hyperion had a problem with a distributor that didn't pay the bill.

So no one can directly register this product on Hyperion website. You have to send an a email to them for requesting the registration of Heretic II , like this Hyperion is able to trace from where you baught your copy of Heretic II.

There is essential upgrade for this game on Hyperion website.

I had a response asking for my user namer on the Hyperion site but haven't heard anything since I replied.

Cheers
