@328gts
Is the printer turned on? - this error occurs if the printer is not connected correctly. But anyway - when the printer is connected correctly, the error should disapear - but it won't help you - printing on most LaserPrinters via USB on OS 4.1 seems almost impossible, which is really a shame since I was going to buy a Sam for my company. |

Most HP printers use the 1284.4 (DOT4) protocol, I think they invented it.
The problem is I do not have a dot4 printer so its hard for me to implement. I have just added some Error requesters tonight so you know whats wrong. But you can also look in t:usb.log and ther most likely will be an entry about 1284 not being supported. RWO |

Best course of action would be for an interested party to let him borrow, the printer. Ship the printer to him (and Paypal the money for him to ship it back), and when he has finished adding support he can send it back to you along with updated drivers! The guy that sends the printer will have the added advantage to test the new drivers first and be 100% sure that at least his printer model WILL work (as it was the one tested in the first place)! |

Shouldn't the printer support be build into the OS by Hyperion? Or is the USBprinter.device considered a "3-party driver" |

I'm the Guy that has to fix the usbprinter.device for Hyperion.
I'm the one that last worked on it.. and Dot4 has NOT been added yet. I help Hyperion out in my space time for free.. so I can not justify buying a printer just too add Dot4.. I allready has a usbprinter but its not a Dot4. RWO |

Aha.. I see the problem - I have 2 DOT4 printes, unfortunately located in Denmark - probably too expensive to ship abroad.... But as DAX wrote maybe we should setup a bounty for you to buy a printer... |

No cash depot (second hand low prize shop)somewhere near your house, with second hand DOT4 printer available ??? Who knows if a printer for few money could be found for testing and adding dot4. I'm sure if you could found one old at low prize, one of the amiga member here will paid the printer for you ![]() IMHO More better to rwo to found one printer for low money and let another amig auser pay for the feature and rwo keep to printer after... DOT4 is a protocol that allows a device that is part of a multifunction peripheral ( MFP ) to send and receive multiple data packets simultaneously across a single physical channel to other devices on the MFP. All data exchanges are independent of one another so the canceling of one does not affect the others. An example of an MFP is the OfficeJet series from Hewlett-Packard ( HP ), which are devices that contain a scanner , printer , and fax machine all in one. The DOT4 protocol is specified in IEEE 1284.4, an enhancement of the original IEEE 1284 protocol for parallel ports on personal computers (PC). While many MFP devices still use the parallel port, there is a shift to Universal Serial Bus ( USB ) for the high-speed connection of peripheral devices. |

It was Mrodfr who proposed the bounty, I would suggest to just lend him the Printer for a while instead. When a problem with the Sam sound driver arised Acube sent a Sam to Davy Wentzler to fix the problem. How may days would it take to wotk on this Driver? |

I have no printer.... but there are a possibility to found one somewhere IMHO. I think the best is rwo to found one near his home (second hand the best) and ask money for buying the printer for adding the features. BTW, now I know it's more than a simple printer but an all in one printer, maybe the prize is much more. Question: Normal simple USB printer work with AOS4 and USB ??? DOT4 example printers: http://driver.wareseeker.com/free-dot4/ example of printers who use DOT4. Edited by Mrodfr on 2009/10/27 13:25:14

I'm all for a small bounty for you to buy one of the printers you mentioned.They can be found here used for practically nothing nowadays and it's very important to get these printers working via USB for OS4.x to move forward IMHO |

@RWO
And if you want to add raw and bulk support for webcam (if not the case allready), I'm sure some users have old webcams or some of them could buy you webcams (because webcams are small and easy to send by mail, not the case for an all in one printer). Yes, I know It's not the subject of this thread but if you need something to help you for improving USB on AOS4.1 (testers, hardware,....), ask the amiga community and maybe you will received great help ![]() There are allways something possible to help if we all talk about the problem together ![]() |
