IBrowse and AWeb combined... WHat a discusting thought, I'm very happy with IBrowse, it's has had many features for years that 'modern' browsers are only just adding, it's small and fast, it doesn't matter that it's only 68k, which some idiots seem to think makes it unuasble, remember the 'I use aweb it's native' stuff on AW? I've done tests, IB is a fraction of a second slower on most pages, actually faster on some.

Then consider the GUI... AWeb sucks...

I agree, I also prefer IBrowse because it is very fast, even on my old Amiga. The programmers have done a very good job. I heard a new version will be soon released. I have tested AWeb, but I don't like it so much. Pictures take a very long time until they are loaded.

It's Aweb for me. I just can't get on with Ibrowse. I stuck with Ibrowse ever since I gave up on Mosaic.

If anything, I find picture loading on Aweb slightly quicker....

We just had IE7 rolled out at work and this still struggles to compete with the ease of use of my trusty Aweb.

Still, everyone has their own perspective.

I don't know who told you a new version will be released soon, unless you've been reading that ridiculous 'ibrowse when' thread on AW...

as for speed, it depends on your system, on a classic use ibrowse's internal decoders, on an A1 use the external datatypes.

of course with aweb using the 'internal' decoders means using external datatypes and using 'external' means using the plugins that come with it...

so in ibrowse

internal means 'decoders that are part of the package'
external means 'use external datatypes'

in aweb

internal means 'use external datatypes'
external means 'decoders that are part of the package'

isn't aweb fun ?

What is the status of Amizilla? A long time ago, I had donated some money to this project, but I haven't heard anything since then.
Are they making good progress?

I think there are some students in England working on this.

I seem to remember googling to an update on this recently.

I have just tried Aweb on Amigakit - fantastic!

Amigakit rocks!

Not only are they the best Amiga dealer ever - they also put an entire PC Amiga package together that makes AIAB look like a load of trash.

Rockon!

Hi,

i use Aweb most the time ... ;)
Only on sites with "not so old" javascript [mainly my main torrent
sites] i use IBrowse .. and yes .. IB is faster on my 060/66
system .. but i have only the Demo [dont buy an non-css browser more,
haved buyed AWeb3.x].

The main problems for Amiga is not the non available Firefox
or not OpenOffice ......

FireFox is big and have potential problems with viruses/trojaner...
OpenOffice is big too and nearly no one need the whole pakage full ..

We need a fast and small browser [IB4 or a good Aweb WITH actual
javascript/css support] for modern web sites ..

And a compatibily with M$ word !
Maybe a library that allow loading/writing from actual M$ Word
formats .. THIS is needed .

And as interim solution a smal prg that convertes with the help
from the word.lib the word documants to/from FinalWriter/WordWorth ..
So the actual amiga text-apps can used and new apps benefits from
the word.lib was is holded up-to-date ...

maybe ... only a hint ;)

Hello Amigans this is my first post

About the browser situation, IMHO isn't too terrible now, i think that we have a good chance to see some progress in the near time.

IBrowse for example is quite finish, only 13 bugs before the officiale release (off course if all goes well)

AWeb is incomplete and the development is too slow, this is true, but the 3.5.09 is coming ...

But 100% we does't forget the Sputnik project, Marcik it is not contrary at all to an AmigaOS 4.0 porting and i'm sure that once he have finished the MorphOS version will be able to release also for AmigaOS (maybe via bounty or what else, now we don't know)

Also Paihia could become a real dream in 2007 as Mozilla too, if we can have a decent GTK/MUI wrapper in the near time ...

So feel positive guys, the loooong waiting is quite finish

Bye

P.S.
Congratulation to the mantainers, this new forum is very nice

We are SO, SO, SO, SO lucky that we have as many browsers as we do!!!

Wasn't it supposed to be IMPOSSIBLE to do even half of what Amigas can do?

I'm going to say this, even though I don't have to (I doubt any would dispute this), we are so very grateful for all the time and effort put into all 3 browsers made for Amiga.
AWeb, Voyager, and IBrowse.

How right you are!

Aweb is everything I need in a World wide web browser.

However I am looking forward to trying the Mozilla browser being ported by the heroic English students. I only hope it can successfully run on my A600.
