"not promote the X1000 launching videos"

Using a eur3000 computer for videos when blueray/divx players exist are a bit futile thing anyway...

btw. Does AOS4 support blueray drives and is it able to rip the content?

Some time ago I noticed that I could convert videos to mpeg4 format that played nicely even on SAM440 (with some free CPU even).
(something like 360p or so and very OK to my eyes, 64kbit for audio, I do not want to use gigabytes of space per movie anyway...)

((hmmm.. where did I put that DVD::RIP config info ...))

@Kimmok : do the words "hobby" or "passion" ring a bell for you ?

No support for Blueray since it would need a GPU hardware decoding process.

And anyway, skiloopfilter option is ugly whether it's on PC or X1000. Period.

BTW : using an Amiga today is futileanyway (if I follow you of course, which is no the case)...

Depends, if you just wan to encode it to less demanding format, then it does matter that It takes some time. Playing it with out degrading the format first might be too mutch to ask.

I admit it does not make sense to use skiploopfilters on AmigaONE-XE as it can't play hires H.254 anyway at good speed.

You know higher resolution videos looks better then low resolution videos if you can play higher resolution videos,
You have choice play lesser demanding videos or use skiploopfilters.

skiploopfilters is a tread off, tiny bit less quality for higher resolution video, who cares.

Actually you don't need to turn skiploopfilters completely off there are 4 different options for it.

* Skip Everything
* Skip Non-Key Frames
* Skip Bi-Directional Frames
* Skip Non-Reference Frames

If you Google a bit you find 2007/2008 they where having the same problems on PC's not unlike the X1000.

Even your PC friends back then was using skiploopfilter, so I don't see the problem.

PC's today have often 4 or 8 CPU cores, etch running at maybe 3.6Ghz, they have hardware accelerated video, and hardware accelerated yuv12,

We have a dual core 1.8Ghz, where only one CPU core is active, with out hardware acceleration, I think your PC friends be laugh at you no matter what you do.

Or you look at it in a other way and say that 1.8Ghz PA6T is not doing that bad considering its just running on one CPU core, that's how I look at it rally

Anyway found a interesting link:

Of course I know that X1000 makes wonders.

What I'm just saying is that watching videos with the skiploofilter otpion is ugly.

Everytime I download a new version of LiveForIt-Mplayerand watch a video. My 1st reaction is : Wow, whate are these macroblocks ? And then I remeber that you set it in the defautl config file. I have to edit the confog file to be able to watch a nice smooth video.

I admit that for higer resolution, this option can help but it should not be activated by default and user should have the choice to use it or not.

Maybe but its easier for you to remove the line, then for some one to remember what to put in the config file.

Or better : hope that a new version of Mplayer-GUI (which already has the option to be set or not) is made.

The real problem is that you degrade the quality for everyone whereas it should not be the case.

Better : put in the Readm that this option can be set in the config file.

Sorry to bother you with this but I really think this option should not be set by default

Can be done with a installation script I guess, but its more work for me I think, I don't think anyone else is going to do it.

A Raspberry PI can play 1080HD movies without any problems.
I think the X1000 have enough power to do it too.
We need better drivers.

Yes, when the GPU does the hard work.

>I think the X1000 have enough power to do it too.

It has 10x the CPU power and 100x of the GPU power of Pi.

>We need better drivers.

To compete with HW assisted playback, we need AMD to help to do those drivers...

Without the big helping hand, the development takes very long time.

(hoping some grazy Amigan @ AMD to help, so that we get state of the art Radeon support)

I wonder if someone has thought about an idea to have "small" fpga card on PCIex1 slot to house "Amiga" specific HW video decoder... Would that be easier to do than full Radeon support?

>Yes, when the GPU does the hard work.

It's not the GPU nor the CPU that does the work on PI.

>It has 10x the CPU power and 100x of the GPU power of Pi.

Raspberry Pi:

Has an “BCM2835” SOC.

http://www.broadcom.com/products/BCM2835

BCM2835 SOC contains:
* ARM1176JZF-S micro processor embedded
* HP H.264 hardware Encoder/Decoder.
And more.

AmigaONE-X1000 might have faster CPU then Raspberry PI, but its not the CPU that does the video decoding on the Raspberry PI, It has the “HP” technology embedded in the BCM2835 SOC.

So Raspberry PI gets it for free using hardware, while the AmigaONE-X1000 PA6T has do it in software.

To me it seems that the decoder is anyway embedded in the GPU section:

Looks like I'm wrong, hemm anyway they have hardware encoder/decoder that does the work, and we don't have that.

We have the hardware as well, RadeonHD gfx cards can do the video decoding, and even the onboard Sam460 SM502 has some video decoding support, only software using it is missing on AmigaOS.

That was kind what I meant by what I wrote

I have noticed there is directory in MPlayer called drives, there are some code for Radion graphic cards, but it looks like its is for older models, and it also mostly looks like its YUV overlay stuff.

Some digging about it:

ATI calls this technology Unified Video Decoder (UVD).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Video_Decoder

It looks like the Linux support is bit newer then the old mplayer I'm working on.

Mesa got support for UVD in Linux around 2013-04-06, so this pretty resent.

http://chithanh.blogspot.no/2013/04/n ... ures-for-adventurous.html

http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showth ... urce-Radeon-UVD-On-Ubuntu

http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTM1NDk

http://developer.amd.com/community/bl ... nified-video-decoder-uvd/

VDPAU is the hi-level API that MPlayer uses if its available.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDPAU

VDPAU uses UVD.

VDPAU came around 22-DES-2008 for Nvidia cards first on Linux.

“-D” is for setting defines, its not for setting compiler options.
And there are no “#ifdef _ARCH_PWR4” in the code so it wont change anything.

We might get better speed by using a newer GCC compiler, but as I understand it the newer GCC compiler is unstable or can't be used on AmigaOS4 safely.
