combo USB/SATA/IDE
Not too shy to talk

Hi All,
as I need to free some slots in my A1XEG4, I would like to replace my sii3512, sii0680 and USB2.0 cards with a kind of all-in-one pci card.

Anyone tried this successfully and got a link where I could get it ?
Thx
Lio

Good day Lio,

I'm sorry to be the bringer of sad tidings, but the multifunction Sii cards that I have seen do not support booting (I looked into that option myself). They may be good for storage drives, but you won't be able to boot into anything.

Sorry,

Sold the SAM460ex lite... waiting for money for X5000 or A1222 and OS 4.2

I have tried a USB/SATA card, mentioned in a thread on AmigaWorld (http://amigaworld.net/modules/newbb/v ... _id=34558&forum=33#638387). Both SATA and USB2 works. I don't leave in in full-time because it seemed to contribute to lock-ups occasionally, and I don't really need it often. I never tried booting from it.

you could always use one of the little converter cards between drive and PCI card to convert PATA <-> SATA (as appropriate) - I know Maplin in the UK provide these, others probably do to, like eBuyer.
Then you can ditch the other - probably most effective to ditch the 0680 card.

Do you know if that is something about the cards or does uboot not know how to boot into them? Are they singlenchip things or do the boards have a pci bridge to various chips onboard? Do you have a model number or link to buy one?

Good day Bill,

From what I remember, the cards were either designed not to boot, or the designers could not figure out how to get the chipsets to communicate with each other to achieve a boot (0680 + 3112/4).

I did a search to find said cards, but could not find them. (Since most people want to boot from their drives, I guess nobody bought those cards.) What I did find was a new crop of bootable combination cards, mostly with VIA chipsets. Most of them looked like they had 5V connectors, but others had universal connectors.

The best bet might be asking ACube whether a card works, or might work.

I haven't been able to find much. Only one such combo card which is in "phase out" status
http://www.avlab.com.tw/phaseout/1016_0006_000b.htm

Any other combo I could find is not the usb/ise/sata trifecta.

FYI I'm currently working on support for the VT6421 PATA/SATA chipset.
There is already a new U-Boot version in development for Sam440ep mini-itx, Sam440ep flex (and soon Sam460ex) which can boot from the PATA port, and a very rudimentary AOS4.1 driver (works in PIO mode atm)
Don't ask for any release date since development work is done in my (very) rare spare-time...
