ICU for example (or at least regex.h?)

I'm just curious, did you consider using the GTK-MUI wrapper in order to be able to use the existing GTK GUI? Would this not be more straight-forward than writing a completely new GUI?

I didn't consider it. Whether it would have made things easier or not, I have no idea. I suspect I would have ended up wrestling with GTK and MUI code trying to get it to work, neither of which I know anything about.

What kind of tab support NetSurf implements?

1) IBrowse 2.x : window close gadget close current tab;

2) Firefox 1.x : a close gadget right or left of tabs which close current tab;

3) Firefox 2.x and Sputnik: each tab has its close gadget;

Have Tabs a context menu (like IBrowse and Firefox, with which you can close current tab, other tabs, close all tabs, open a new tab) ?

When there are many tabs how is it manage this situation? Do they appear scrolltabs gadgets at the left and right of tabs?

@Shinky

I think that right now it's quite premature to stress Chris with that questions, let him to release somethings like a system tab before ...

Aniway, I like the Firefox 2.x/Sputnik method too

At the moment you can't close them I'll probably be adding a gadget to the left but at the moment the window close gadget is supposed to close them (as that's an unintuitive way of doing things, it won't be staying like that).

There are no context menus anywhere yet (except for forms).

looks like OWB will have the more compatible engine + javascript, whereas Netsurf will have amazing speed + tabs. (Note: I'm guessing here!)

Seems pretty stable to me, I've been using it as my main browser. Occasionally it refuses to work on certain sites, but in normal operation it tends not to crash,
