"Ermentrud" adventure game: First Trailer!

The point’n’click adventure "Ermentrud" has a first trailer! It's not final yet, please feel free to give feedback :)

"Ermentrud" was originally developed between 2001 and 2004 for Amigas with a graphics card, but then abandoned. It was set in a medieval world and offered an absurd plot with absurd humor. And the hero had a cardboard horse.

It will be released this year after all, even if not in the scope planned at the time. It will contain all the original graphics, sounds and music, but the storyline will be revised.

So far only a German version is planned. It is not yet clear whether there will be other languages. The game will be available for free.

With the current engine (and to keep it compatible with the classic Amiga version) the way to go would be to translate the actual game scripts. It's also more flexible with different text lengths etc.

In any case we would need an actual translator who understands german humor. There are a lot of expressions which wouldn't make any sense with literal translations.

Your suggestion works for applications, but an adventure game is more like a book or movie to translate.

But yes, I think we will try to find someone for an english version. But not for the first release.

Sadly I think that’s best option in many cases, I have ever think there are few program can be made to work only few tiny changes,

On scale from 0 to 10 hardware dependent, many programs comes in on 2, only blitter getting in the way, or something like that.

Ermentrud was released and it worked...one time...with my old monitor.

I tried to fire it up today but got an error message telling me:

I'm pretty sure it's because it can't find the screenmode...which one does Ermentrud use?
I might have to add it manually...

...then again, i updated SDL2 in the meantime...hum

Please try:

getenv SDL_RENDER_DRIVER

Have you forced "opengl", in other words MiniGL which doesn't support FBOs? "compositing" and "opengles2" should work.

@Timo

Would it be possible to add SDL_RENDERER_TARGETTEXTURE flag for SDL_CreateRenderer?

With your new SDL2 prefs actually and i completely forgot about it.

And Ermentrud does display the extreme audio dropouts and slowdowns again.

So it's pretty sure some regression in the versions prior 2.0.20.

I wonder if, @Timo would rebuild the game, with SDL2.0.20 they'd be gone again?

Doesn't matter btw which RENDER TARGET i use, all of them have the issue while "opengl" doesn't work at all, since it triggers the error message

The version for AmigaOS 4 has been released some time ago. The Ermentrud executable is the INGA engine. So you can replace the game data and use it with another game.

Maybe something is wrong configured on your machine. Ermentrud has been extensively tested on all existing OS4 Hardware i know. No such problem occured in beta testing phase.

Something comparable what you write about Ermentrud on your Machine, occured during the testing of Freegemas on an A1 XE G4 from a tester. On all machines that Game ran fine except that A1 (horrible performance despite Compositing Renderer). After some testing/feedback cycles the tester reinstalled 4.1FE U2 and Freegemas began to run like on other systems. I wish i could tell you excatly what the problem is/was.

I'll build Ermentrud again and link it against SDL2 2.0.20 RC1. You'll receive soon a PM. For an official itch.io release i would like to wait for the final version of SDL2 2.0.20 instead of the RC1.
