Need AmigaOS 3.9 catalog cd and ct files
Just popping in

Hi. I would like to fix and update the Turkish locale files of AmigaOS3.9 + Boingbag1 + Boingbag 2 but I do not have access to original cd (catalog descriptor) and ct (catalog translation) files to make the best translation. Can someone help me with this?

I need the cd and ct files to create new Turkish catalog files.

It is not ideal to edit the catalog files directly (using catedit) without access to original strings. I am mostly working blind.

I think these are going to be really hard to get. These were given to the ATO teams, who did the translations, but again I am not 100% sure.

Yes they were given to ATO members but could not contact the ones who did Turkish translations.

There are some errors and computer terminology has advanced much in Turkey since then.

Also some messages are not translated at all (like error messages)

I tried editing the catalog files by hand but without seeing the original english text, it is very inefficient.

I also tried exporting the catalog files as ct files but that just copied Turkish translations as indexes with no English comments. The current state of Turkish catalogs is very depressing.

The catalog files probably are in the CD but there is also Turkish catalog locale update file.

It's funny though they did not provide fonts that support Turkish codeset. So I again fixed old ones and created new Turkish fonts.

Without Turkish fonts you get foreign characters with some characters. (Ğ, ğ, İ, ı, Ş, ş)

I will use the sources to fix and improve the turkish catalogs only. I hope someone contacts me.

Can I ask for the cd files from Haage and Partner? Do they still have the code or did they throw it away?

I have a legal copy of AmigaOS3.9 and only I have found in English Catalogs the catalog for monitors, for default the system use the English to find the ct files will complicated and Haage and Partner, well, I hven't too much hope because they leave the Amiga like soul that the devil carries.

Well, you can decompile a catalog, I did this for Directory Opus 5.
Version 5.6 and 5.8 did not match 100%, but it worked somehow.

To decompile a catalog you will need at least the CD files. Unless there is a tool that doesn't require them that I am not aware of.

Without cd files recompiling a catalog only gives you already translated text and nothing more. There are no descriptor files with original English text

Now I need to find how to snoop the following catalogs:

ahi.catalog
AMPlifier.catalog
aweb.catalog
awebcfg.catalog
benchtrash.catalog
deficonsprefs.catalog
genesisprefsra.catalog
genesisra.catalog
iotools.catalog
mounter.catalog
playcd.catalog
rawbinfo.catalog
unarc.catalog

Amidock.catalog
amigaguide.catalog
amigamail.catalog
c.catalog
commodities.catalog
devs.catalog
dos.catalog
EditPad.catalog
find.catalog
hdtoolbox.catalog
installer.catalog
libs.catalog
monitors.catalog
prefs.catalog
prepcard.catalog
rexxc.catalog
system.catalog
text.catalog
utilities.catalog
wbclock.catalog
workbench.catalog

vnc.prefs.catalog
vnc.sys.catalog

having problems snooping c catalog

I tried CatEd snoop feature to capture the original english workbench.catalog. I hope this works but when trying to export the captured strings as a cd file it gives me a warning:

Not all strings have a name. Should names be created for these string? (These names can conflict with earlier defined names.)

I hope this created workbench.cd file is the same one as the source.

No. The snoop feature only snoops part of the catalog.

I wonder if there is a program that allows you to export the loaded catalog files from memory as files?

Something like sysinspector?

Dunnot if it works for AOS3.9, but you can try:

http://aminet.net/package/dev/misc/uncat

Create .cd file from running program
