SFS2 corruption on x5000
Not too shy to talk

Hi all,
I am getting corruption on a SSD partition on p5020sata.device which uses SFS2.

the error is :
findextentbnode: findbnode() can't find key 3697896!
error=0 *returned_bnode=6F665A9C (*returned_bnode) ->key=3697656

since I have valuable data in this partition, how do I fix this and why is it happening ? I never had this kind of error on my trusty AmigaOneXEG4 but I am regularly getting this error specially in Odyssey folder...

Probably corrupt data coming from Odyssey's cache.

You could try to point it's cache to somewhere else (another partition, ram or something

And do make a backup immediately

Ouch

Do you maybe have a second setup?

It sounds that bad that i would refrain from using the ssd any longer for "normal" work.
I only hope that the problems aren't as bad when you don't use the ssd as boot drive. Otherwise it could get hideous. :-/

Boot with the BootCD and do a mirror backup of your drive.
Once you are sure the data is saved, format the ssd and recopy your stuff.
Better add a second hdd as backup.

You can use backup from Onyxsoft.
It does 1:1 copies, preserves links and doesn't crunch the files.
A simple "copy clone" to save your data back to a new hdd is all you need afterwards

Good luck

You always need two physical disks IMO. Wether permanently installed or a USB backup disk. Disks break down all the time, including SSD. You simply need backup.

Got a new PC at work with SSD. Worked great for 3 weeks, then crashed and never started again. Replaced the SSD and it has been runnning for 4 years.

I have setup BackUp using DRemind to backup all my partitions automatically and regularly. And just the other day my primary harddisk started to show signs of resignation. Good thing I have a mirror backup setup and ready to go

@Denii : well I have bad experience with backup HDD : from one day to the other the backup partition was gone...

@Raziel : how to make odyssey points to another location ? I dont see anything in the prefs

This SSD is a 40Gb from Corsair, turn o/f 1400 times and worked for more than 300 hours and the SSD software on the pc says it is healthy at 97% so I am more suspecting SFS2 assocaited with X-5000 to generate corruption.

back to my question : is there a tool to repair ?

True, Odyssey can't do that, i was thinking of another browser, sorry for the mixup. (Though you can always put Odyssey on it's own partition and start it from a script, that way, if Odyssey was the culprit, it will crash only it's own data the next time it fails, which hopefully never comes)

I'm using a SFS2 formatted external HDD, which i attach through USB when doing backups.
I do them by the quarter of a year and it saved me already many times.

got again an error on one partition having SFS2 (BlockID error) !

I could make a backup and reformat the partition by using the X-5000 prerelease CD as boot but I would like to use a USB stick to make it a little bit faster.

Since I got a second hand beta system, I dont have the Flash Drive USB stick customers got when purchasing a full X-5000 system therefore I am asking those what is the filesystem used for this FlashDrive ? is it NGFS, FAT, NTFS, FFS ??

MorphOS SFS is not compatible with AmigaOS4.1 SFS, the filesystem can get corrupted.

it looks this problem on dual boot computers X5000/Sam460.
I have used SFS2 for ages rock solid on X1000.

It can be tricky to make things exactly the same if code is not shared, or different people are not cooperating. sadly, many cases of this, due to licenses and political issues. Sometimes it’s done intentionally a different of opinion between developers. And sometime is due to pure ignorance, bad specifications.

well I am not talking about MOS here, I dont have it installed !

I just want to copy the content of the X-5000 pre release CD to a USB stick and asking which FS should I format the USB stick with so that I can boot from it at startup. I tried FAT and it was not recognized.

knowing that on X-5000 you can only boot for a NGFS partition (at least you need the kickstart drawer in a NGFS partition), I am wondering if the USB stick has to be formatted as NGFS or something else.

FAT is obviously not supported as that can only be installed on a MBR partition table, this means you don’t have partition boot flag, and boot priority.

if your booting from USB, my guess you need to have RDB partition so you most likely need to make a RDB table in "Media Toolbox" system tool.

Quote:
knowing that on X-5000 you can only boot for a NGFS partition

that depends on what kickstart modules that are loaded at boot.
you need to check kickstart layout, but FFS is most likely also supported.

(Linux does support RDB partitons, and can mount AFFS filesystem.)

Just checked mine, it has a small SFS/00 boot partition and 2 SFS/02 Workbench and Work partitions.

Use RawDisk that comes with Amiga OS4.1 to write ISO to USB stick,
remember to change start cylinder to 0 (zero).

Also something to consider is a big NAS with some two layer
protection it eats through harddisks when installing, but is
probably as secure as you can get (currently and not going to
industrial robots* for backups to tape)

*robots is not an actual robot but that it can do an backup
and spit out a tape and install a new tape automatically.

and wasn't there a program to repair SFS/SFS2 disks (sfs doctor is
available for morphos), pretty low success rate, and how about
disksalv 4.x? it's freeware had more options than 2.x and 3.x,
don't know if it works with pfs/sfs/sfs2.

Apologies for stealing the thread and if this is an issue, I'll create a new one, just let me know. Can someone point me to the web page which explains how to create bootable installation USB Stick from my copy of AOS 4.1 CD and to include AOS 4.1 Final Edition Update 2 on it or to explain how it is done? I would really appreciate that!

there is none, thats why I was asking for it a few posts above...

I tried the Khayoz suggestion (thanks man !) but I forgot to set the start cylinders at 0 (is 2048 by default)
will repeat and report back if it works !

still no go : RawDisk does not let me choose 0 as start cylinders (min is 2048)...

I tried rawrite32 on win7 (Kas1e said in another thread it is the best tool for such thing) where the start is at 0 but the USB key is not recognized under AOS4...

any help/suggestion welcome.

little update :
formatted the USB stick either as FFS2 or NGFS and copied over the content of the X-5000 pre release CD.

in both cases I got the following error :
invalid partition type "DOS\7" (expect "U-Boot")
invalid partition type "NGF\0" (expect "U-Boot")

what does this means ?? do I have to install the SLB in the RDB of the USB stick ?? where can I get it ?? it is NOT present in L: as it used to be for AmigaOne system !

what a mess and no support regarding this little question...
