AmigaAMP @ 4.1
Just popping in

Hello Amigans!
I am new to SAM and OS4.1 world, although I have been struggling into Amiga world for some time now, with MorphOS being my favorite peak so far!

Wanted to install a simple mp3 player into my new 4.1 system, thought AmigaAMP would do the trick, downloaded the verison from the software's site -that is why I am positng in the Amiga native section, it seems not to be a 4.0/4.1 native one-. I have found a good looking skin as well, downloaded the software and the OS4 decoder, setting the software to use it on the prefs window.
On startup the software point it can not find the ahi.device and would not work. The file is on my devs drawer. What I am doing wrong?

Is there any dedicated OS4 version of AmigaAMP?
Ps. I remember I had a similar problem on MorphOS but somehow made it to work, my memory do not help now.
Thanks for your time.

Yeah this was my point as well, cause I saw it running on a AmigaOne screenshot under 4.0. I keep on trying.

TuneNet need expat.libraryand there is a broken link on the OS4Depot link given @ the TuneNet downloads page. It also asks for threads library. Anyone kind enough to show me a way to those files?

AmigaAMP dose work on the sam440ep under OS4.1 as I have run it and used it to listen to mp3s on mine.

The main executable is a 68k application which you can ether use with the OS4 version of mpega.library or the OS4 native external mp3 decoder engine. It sounds like you are having a problem with your AHI setup rather than AmigaAmp itself.

The only real issue I have found with AmigaAmp on the sam440 is that it crashes on shutdown.

Still have not install any player to test any mp3s. AmigaAMP was the first one. The test sound on AHI is all I can test sound with and it plays well. Still no datatype on OS4 for mp3s. I tried to open an mp3 file with mplayer but still no result... well I guess it is the mess of a begginer and nothing more. Should have all the issues fixed I guess. Thanks for the kind support guys.

Not sure about SAM440ep, because I don't have one.

However, I have been using AmigaAMP for several years on my MicroA1. Here is quick listing of what I use ...

AHI audio system is required.

AmigaAMP 2.18
AmigaAMP AmigaOS 4 decoding engine 2.19
asyncio.library
mpega.library
sndfile.library

The two AmigaAMP packages are available at the AmigaAMP homepage (in the download area):
Homepage: http://www.amigaamp.de/
AmigaAMP.lha
AmigaAMP-Decoder-OS4.lha

The AmigaOS 4 decoding engine is also available at OS4depot.

The other libraries are not part of the package and are available separately at OS4depot.

----------

Here are some notes from rom the AmigaAMP readme file ...

Requirements (not included in the AmigaAMP archives)
--------------------------------------------
asyncio.library
AHI audio system

For MP2/MP3 support (optional)
- mpega.library

For AIFF, WAV and 8SVX support (optional)
- sndfile.library v1

Do you have AHI set up to a suitable mode for both "Music Unit" and "Unit 0" ?

I am trying to install tune net too here on my new sam. I think that i did everything correct (installed the missing libraries) but when I am trying to listen to a mp3 the system locks up and I can only restore via a hard reset. Any thoughts?

Well my issue was the point that AHI was not set up for Unit 0 but just for Music, roll into your rpefs and check. Btw, thanks COBRA!

The software now works almost fine except from the fact that I am getting a Data Storage Interrupt by the Gream Ripper everytime I quit the software and when I dragged a whole folder to be played. I gave more stack on the icon properties but that was not the solution.

I also had problem with AmigaAMP crashing on exit but I haven't seen this for ages on either OS4.0 or OS4.1.

I use the OS4 engine and set the config to AmigaOS4 (External), AHI unit 0 and use a plain skin.

I installed Songplayer once to listen to some mp3s I'd created for someone as a favour and only had to install the mpeg lib from OS4depot and I must say sound from o'SAM is pretty good!

But I don't actually listen to music as a choice so perhaps my vote doesn't really count

It is another option for those which are having difficult with other setups

Firstly, I used to have it freeze on my system also, until I updated the Mpega.
But instead of just having AmigaAMP on your system, you could have these also:

1. TuneNet as forementioned
2. TKPlayer
3. SimplePlay

Here are two handy websites, Jahc's one, that allows you to download other software such as Rockbeat, and wookiechat, and ofcourse SimplePlay

Then HD-Rec, for all your editing of music, and TKPlayer

http://wookiechat.amigarevolution.com/

http://www.hd-rec.de/HD-Rec/index.php?site=home

Cheers, and enjoy a variety of choices for any given day you choose to play musik.

Can anyone tell me if the GadTools GUI in AMP does look also broken in OS4.1 like it does here on OS4.0 Classic (check the buttons which does not have the right symbols)?
