Monitor/Keyboard switch
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

See User information
Hi I wonder if any Amigan is able to help.

Can anyone can recommend a Monitor and or keyboard switch that is compatible with A1/OS4.0 & Amiga Classic (CVPPC & CV64) displays. I want to connect 2 or 3 Amigas to the same monitor.

I am also interested in possibly using one keyboard to control several Amigas. I have seen comments in the past on other forums about KVM switches but having looked at their website the it's diffecult to know what is compatible?

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I have an kvm switch that I use with my AmigaOne/A4000,
I have only attached the monitor because if I remember
correctly the A4000 mouse and keyboard are not PS2,
the switch to work with no mouse and keyboard need
an external power but work great.
It's an Q-Tec 720 SK I searched on the net but it seems
that Q-Tec doesn't product kvm switches any more.

I think that what you must check it's that it can work
with only the monitor connected, because generally
the power came from the keyboard, the switch must
have it's own power.

Hope it helps,
Paolo

The problem with using a kvm on a classic/A1 or PC combination, is that the classic does not provide enough power to use the key combination switch to change systems. If you are on a pc or the A1 you can switch to the classic, but not the other way round.

I actually use a manual data transfer switch, which is for keyboard and monitor only, and has only two selections.
I bought it from my local computer shops cheapy bin.

On the back are six connectors, a keyboard and monitor connection from each computer and two for connecting the actual keyboard and monitor. On the front is a two way switch for selecting the required computer.

If it has a switch on the front to select the input then you don't need to mess about with remaping keys either.
I suggest getting a switchable one.
I had the Ebuyer 4port one. It did audio too so you only needed one set of speakers.
Only thing you need to watchout for is if you have been using different monitors with different p96 settings then when you switch you may have to sync your monitor.

Edit also I had a two port kvm once that would not passthrough a scandoubler output. So check the datasheet for frequencies before you buy.

Thanks for all the advice. I want to be able to switch between an A1-XE (OS4F) & A1200/PPC (OS4PR) & A4000/PPC (OS3.9 & Morphos Power-UP). I will investigate the options suggested.

Many thanks,

Hi trevor
do a search on the RS components site.

They call it a keyboard/monitor sharer switch.
I did a search for data transfer switch and scrolled down.

The link to the product is too long to link to, in these forums, but you should be able to find it OK.

Hope that helps.

I use a powered KVM to switch between my computers. I used to use a passive KVM (no power connection) but it caused problems with sticking keys, etc. I found a powered KVM in a local shop, picked up a power supply for it and have been happy ever since.

I'm sure this has been commented before, but you have 3 A1s and a Panda? How'd you manage that?

I'm not proud of what I did to get these machines but I'd do it again!

P.S. Just doing some testing for Troika. They did ask for beta testers a while back...
