ZFS - Hard to port?
Supreme Council

Has anyone looked into getting this ported?

http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/

Quote:

ZFS is a new kind of file system that provides simple administration, transactional semantics, end-to-end data integrity, and immense scalability. ZFS is not an incremental improvement to existing technology; it is a fundamentally new approach to data management. We've blown away 20 years of obsolete assumptions, eliminated complexity at the source, and created a storage system that's actually a pleasure to use.
ZFS Features

* Pooled Storage Model
* Always consistent on disk
* Protection from data corruption
* Live data scrubbing
* Instantaneous snapshots and clones
* Fast native backup and restore
* Highly scalable
* Built in compression
* Simplified administration model

Porting file systems from other systems to AmigaOS isn't possible, the file system APIs are way too different, and since you have to rewrite large parts for AmigaOS anyway it's usually less work to reimplement a file system from scratch for AmigaOS than trying to reuse code parts for other systems.
For something as complex as ZFS you probably could use some of it's library functions without very much changes, but you'd still have to reimplement large parts for AmigaOS.

Would that be possible?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZFS

AFAI understand, it is open source and maybe it could be used as the standard FS for AmigaOS. I guess the file system question would be solved for some time.

I have not tried JXFS yet, since there is no free space on my HD. :)

edit: I should do a forum search b4 posting.. @-/

this question was already asked by Orgin and answered by Joerg (thanx)

Those words sound nice when you try to sell your product to businessmen. But what do they mean actually ?

Highly scalable

Do this mean I can use it on 1 MB floppies as well as on 20 terabyte hard drives ?

Quote:
Built in compression

I think we could do this the same way as fs_plugin_encrypt works on our existing filesystems.

Protection from data corruption

Do this mean the same as "journalling" ?

Perhaps, could be hard to starboard, though.
