@Joeled

Hi,

Well I am sorry that I am gonna have to disappoint you all, but I have moved into a house and have been busy fixing up the place and painting the rooms, but I have not yet had time to finish my new home office so currently my only computer is my laptop.

As soon as I get my amiga up and running and online again, I will post some screen shots / video of the current state of the engine.

Btw, as i understand from previous posts, it can be never released because of legality issues, and if it will be released someday, then only with some garage-games if they will give a permission for ?

Well, I have not talked to them yet, so I would not say never :)

But it is true, that I will not be releasing TGE to anyone without a permission from GarageGames.

Why i point on it: while its all interesting can be, still, i am not sure that you will have permission from (what mean that it can be just as videos for all the users and nothing more :) )

Maybe you can try to talk with them for now ? Imho the only what is matter now, its if they will by some luck give you permission for, because if not, better to stop developing already and concetrate on something else :)

Find out on aros-exec a thread with such a link:

The big news coming out of GarageGames today is that Torque 3D will be going open source under the MIT license. This is huge, and something that we’ve discussed internally for a while. Eric has just posted a blog talking about why Torque 3D is heading in this direction and a little of the history behind the decision. If you haven’t yet read Eric’s blog please head over there and read it first.

What mean that you can release your os4 version with no problems.

@kas1e

There never were any release problems for his Torque port as he could share his source-code with any confirmed Torque licensee.

I hope that open-sourcing the game engine will result in someone bringing the OpenGL backend up to the same level as the Direct-X one. From memory, they never managed to find and hire someone knowledgeable enough in OpenGL (and MacOS X) to work on that part.

What about other GarageGames engines?
We are starting open source efforts with T3D and learning from this experience. For now, the other engines/products are not available via the MIT license.

Unfortunately that means TGE is not included in the first iteration of their open source effort.

A second issue is that I have not been working on this for a long time due to my employment at a competitor (Unity Technologies).

I don't mind given all the platform specific code to someone who would like to have a go at porting T3D. But keep in mind the T3D requires shaders, so for now it would probably only be possible to the null reference renderer.
