| Developer-X and Alinea Computer are delighted to present the boxed and download versions of Tap Jewels for the 68k Amiga. Developer-X is responsible for development, whilst Alinea Computer handles distribution.
Tap Jewels is a classic match-3 gem game which, with its simple, tried-and-tested gameplay, offers plenty of fun and is highly addictive. Adjacent gems of the same colour can be removed from the board to score points. The more jewels you clear at once, the more new jewels appear on the board, thereby extending the game. By skilfully combining jewels and using special tiles (RowCleaner, ColumnCleaner, CrossCleaner), you can prolong the game and secure a good spot on the high score list.
When you clear many jewels and play quickly without making mistakes, a mana gauge at the bottom of the board fills up; when it is full, the game switches to bonus mode and rewards the player with double points for a period of time. During this time, the pressure of the game builds further; gameplay must be more focused and faster to keep the bonus going for as long as possible.
The integrated achievements (Awards), which can be earned by reaching various goals, offer high replay value.
The game modes ?Puzzle? and ?Time Master? offer players two ways to play. Whilst ?Puzzle? focuses on combining large numbers of jewels to keep the playing field filled for as long as possible, ?Time Master? requires a slightly faster pace due to the time pressure. Mistakes when clicking are penalised with a loss of time and lead to increased pressure as the game progresses.
On the technical side, the EntwicklerX team deliberately chose a basic Amiga configuration as their foundation. An Amiga 500 with a 512 KB memory expansion and a floppy disk drive is entirely sufficient.
From the programming and graphics to the music, all elements are handmade. No AI, no graphic assets or pre-made music were used. Frank Menzel and Thomas Claus from EntwicklerX deliberately set out to learn the unique features of the Amiga through this project and aim to expand and improve their skills in future Amiga projects. In Sven Thoennissen, they have also found a musician for Tap Jewels who was active on the Amiga until the 2000s and has now, after more than 20 years, composed his first Amiga MOD files again. Back to the roots!
