Amiga Events

Power Progress Community and ACube Systems are happy to announce the new Powerboard Tyche motherboard. This board was created to bring 64-bit Power Architecture performance to the desktops of enthusiasts, developers, and supporters of the Open Source Hardware movement.

Based around the NXP T2080 processor, the board offers modern features for high-performance computing, next-generation PCI Express slots, NVMe support, and high-speed storage options.

This is the complete features list:

⚬ Form Factor: Micro ATX (fully compatible with most standard PC cases and power supplies on the market)
⚬ CPU: NXP T2080 processor, 64-bit e6500 Power architecture with Vector AltiVec technology
⚬ Core & Performance: 4 physical dual-threaded e6500 cores (8 logical threads), 2 MB low-latency backside L2 cache, 16 GFLOPS per core
⚬ RAM: 2-slot 64-bit DDR3/3L SDRAM memory controller with ECC support
⚬ NVMe SSD: 1x M.2 NVM Express Gen 3 slot and 1x M.2 NVM Express Gen 2 slot for ultra-high-speed solid-state drives
⚬ SATA: 2x SATA2 ports (Sil3132 controller) for traditional HDDs/SSDs
⚬ Primary Video Slot: 1x PCIe 3.0 (x4 electrical, x16 mechanical) to support modern graphics cards
⚬ Secondary Expansion Slots: 1x PCIe 2.0 x4 open-ended slot (mechanically compatible with x16 cards) and 1x PCIe 2.0 x1 slot
⚬ HD Audio: Dedicated C-Media 8828 audio chip
⚬ Audio I/O: Analog jacks (3x2) for Audio IN and surround/stereo Audio OUT; Digital optical and RCA inputs and outputs
⚬ Ethernet: 2x Gigabit Ethernet RJ-45 connectors for advanced network configurations and redundancy
⚬ Rear Panel USB Ports: 2x USB 3.0 + 2x USB 2.0
⚬ Internal USB Headers: 2x USB 3.0 headers for case front ports
⚬ Card Reader: 1x Integrated SDHC card reader
⚬ Advanced I/O / Debug: Pre-equipped for secondary diagnostic/debugging displays via a dedicated bus (SPI/GPIO) during the booting phase

Notes: Project developed in collaboration between Power Progress Community & ACube Systems. Embracing the Open Source Hardware philosophy with transparent and open schematics, the board is fully supported by 64-bit Linux distributions (Debian, Fienix, etc.).

 OS4.1 ?
Here we go again, another amazing PPC motherboard and nothing about OS4.1 availability. Let me use my super powers and look into the future: next year in Sep. Trevor will say he got one at some show with really bad audio streaming. Two years from then, nothing will have happened (2029)...

Think positive.
All projects from A-Cube have received AmigaOS4.

 Well Done !!
I would like to say well done! All new hardware is welcome. So congrats to all involved and hope to see the board up and running soon. Its not a contest or Hail to the new king story.. There is just more hardware needed to get the platform going.

 Too early...
I am a little wondering why the excitement about it. There is nothing amiga related in it except Acube being involved. Acube will earn money with different projects not related to AmigaOS. So I would say first wait for the announcement that OS4 will run on it

 Everyone, lets pray!
O mighty Amiga gods, guardians of custom chips, obscure expansion buses, and operating systems that refuse to die, Hear our humble prayer. May AmigaOS 4.1 find its way onto ACube’s new motherboard. May the hardware documentation be complete, the drivers be writable, the firmware cooperative, and the developers somehow blessed with enough spare time, motivation, coffee, and irrational optimism to make it happen. May every required chipset be supported. May the network controller work. May the SATA controller behave. May USB not become a six-month side quest. May graphics acceleration appear before we are all retired. Protect the project from missing specifications, abandoned drivers, dependency hell, and the ancient curse known as “it boots Linux fine.” And should the first boot screen finally appear, may all Amigans immediately forget the years of arguing, declare the machine the future of the platform, and begin debating whether it is really an Amiga. We ask for no miracles. Except, obviously, this one. Amen. 🙏

@OlafS25

Come on do you think the guys spent all this time on this project with the sole goal of letting us run Linux?

@Olaf
Like we , os4 users/devs do not know how things happens in os4 world in which you probably not much interested ?:)

With age of AI, no one is limited to wait anything anymore. If one didn't want to wait long enough, he will get a board, any os4 iso, and wrote kernel-replacement and maybe 1 or 2 more components to deal with, like graphics.library and driver, and be done with it for time being until Hyperion (if ever) made it officially supported. Writing additional drivers make no problems too anymore, and those can be used later once officials will be done with port (if ever). And i even didn't point that replacement will be faster and more stable for sure, but that another part of story.

Once board will be in hands of the users, it will be matter of few months to have non-official os4 running on it, that for sure. Maybe at time when board out, AI will be on the level that it will be matter of few weeks, or of few days to have unofficial kernel replacement.

Things changed even in amiga world, everything easy now, and corporates can't block you from your experiments anymore.

Especially if you not just vibe-coder, but a one with skills in os4 and coding, this is really matter of having a board in hands. Nothing else need it for now.

According to the prices on the NXP website, the T1042 @1.5Ghz is typically around $200 (ex tax) lower in price than the T2080 at 1.8Ghz.

The two boards can happily co-exist, with the Mirari occupying a lower price segment of the market.

 Re: take my money!
@rob Absolutely!

After all these years, the community deserves the real bonus of having two cards; being able to buy both Mirari and Tyche will give people a choice.
I'd prefer a collaborative atmosphere to a competitive one.
