Hi,

if you can access YouTube, there is a tutorial

starting form minute 4:36 it explains how to partition and format the drive.

If it does not help, we be al here in the forum.

You can choose between Standard filesystem", SFS\00, SFS\02 and NGF\00.

Until the newer NGFS is released, my suggestion is to choose SFS\00,that's what the author of the filesystem advised on the forums. Unless, as he said, you want to store single files bigger than 2GB on your system partition, in that case choose SFS\02.

Edit: Please Use NextGenerationFileSystem NGF as suggested in the video I linked above and also by @smf (thanks!)

Ok. Not having much luck here.
After formatting as suggested earlier, when booting up, all that happens is this: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8en4t0c ... 6kr2khkz&st=dbxjcf0w&dl=0
Any suggestions?

If your USB drive is also named DH0, that might be the problem.

Rename your drive to DH00.

I encountered this problem yesterday and today because my boot partition wouldn't boot anymore.

And I noticed that there can be conflicts between the drive or backup disk if they have the same device name.

Then, once you've successfully installed a system on your drive, you can rename it to DH0 if you wish.

Without losing any data on it.

I will give that a try. The only problem is, when i disconnect the HDD, i can then load Workbench from my Thumb drive USB. However the Workbench does not recognise the HDD when i connect it to rename it :(

In these cases, I use Diskpart on Windows to clean the disk.

On the startup icon, search for "Diskpart, run as administrator," then type "List Disk." It will display the disks currently installed on Windows. Make sure to choose the correct disk!

Then choose the disk you want to clean and type "Select Disk with its corresponding number." As soon as Diskpart indicates that the disk is selected, type "Clean," and it will clean it.

Your disk will be completely blank.

1) Diskpart, run as administrator
2) List disk, enter
3) select disk #, enter
4)clean, enter.

Just to make sure, I ask how did you format the drive?
Was it a "Quick" format or "format" format? (Quick format should be used)?

But then again, I'm not sure I understand how you did the procedure.

After partitioning the drive, you have to reboot in order to format the drive.
When you are at the stage like in your screenshot, You can click on "Cancel"
until the workbench appears. There you should try to click on the disk icon and choose "format" from the "Icons menu" on the workbench, and proceed with "Quick".

What SkyNet meant with "rename it" is to rename the device name.
Each partition has a "device name" e.g. DH0, DH1, DF0, SD0, HD4 etch and a Volume name or "label" e.g. "Workbench", "Work", "MyDataDisk", "Backup-Disk".
You can not chance the device name from the workbench, you have to

1. start "Media Toolbox",
2. "Select the device to use" in the first window (p50x0sata.device)
3. select your hard drive and click on "Edit partitions and filesystems"
4. now, just above the the bottom gadget, you should see a string gadget named "Name" and the field could be "DH0".
5. This is what SkyNet meant You should rename to e.g. "DH0_0" or "NewDH0".
6. Click on "Ok - accept changes"
7. Click on "Save to disk"
8. Acknowledge again and click on "Yes, save."
9. when you click on the "Close gadget of Media Toolbox" it should ask you to reboot.
10. after rebooting it might be necessary to click on "cancel" on a screen similar to the one you posted.
11. When Workbench has fully loaded, you can proceed to format the HDD.

p.s. Don't forget to turn off the machine when you connect or disconnect HDD's or SSD's!

@Tuvok

recommending sfs as the main filesystem on an X5000 is atm a little bit "dangerous" if the user does not have knowledge about how to prepare it's own bootmedia or has got access to a ready made bootmedia.

Thats because the enhancer package is required for the X5000 to get access to a working sfs filesystem.
When booting from the ordinary OS4.1 iso you will not be able to access SFS partitions.

Not a big problem for anyone who knows how the kickstart loading works etc but probably too much for the inexperienced user.

You are right, Thank you!I didn't think about that and forgot it. I don't have may X5000 at hand and haven't used it in quiet some time.

My apologies, I will correct my post.

Do you have a CD/DVD with the system or a backup thumb Drive?

Thanks for the reply.
I did have a USB thumb drive but that has now corrupted and left me unable to boot the machine.
I would prefer a CDrom.

Yes, I read your previous post, so I knew you have a now corrupted thumb drive. That is very unfortunate, I am sorry.

So am I right in my assumption that now you have neither a backup thumb drive, nor a CD/DVD with the system for your X5000?
