Hi all,
I've tried to connect to a number of the Amiga IRC servers I know of, but it looks like they all aren't accepting connections (??)...
irc.amigaworld.net de.amigaworld.net no.amigaworld.net se2.amigaworld.net fr.amigaworld.net us.amigaworld.net irc.orgin.biz irc.polarboing.net
Anyone have any ideas what's up? Anyone have access to the servers and can give them a swift kick?
Thanks,
PJS

Hi again,
FWIW, I just ran through all the server names again and found this...
- irc.amigans.net = connected, working fine
- irc.orgin.biz = connected, working fine
- de.amigaworld.net = could not find (ping said "unknown host")
- another user reported DE.AW showing up as 85.25.152.36 that connected, working fine
- irc.amigaworld.net = could not find (IP address was resolving to 91.213.203.192)
- another user reported IRC.AW showing up as 85.25.209.116 that connected, working fine
- no.amigaworld.net = could not find (ping said "unknown host")
- fr.amigaworld.net = could not find (ping said "unknown host")
- se2.amigaworld.net = could not find (ping said "unknown host")
- us.amigaworld.net = could not find (ping said "unknown host")
- irc.polarboing.net = could not find (ping said "unknown host")
I know some of these are ancient server names. To be so widespread, I wonder if this was just dome DNS failure on AW.net.
Thanks,
PJS

irc.amigans.net, irc.orgin.biz and se2.amigaworld.net is actually the same server. Or that's the idea anyway. I don't have access to the amigaworld dns settings so they may be incorrectly configured.

Hi Orgin,
It looks like your server went down again around 11am US EST and is again unreachable. At the same time, all the other amigaworld.net server are still AWOL.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
PJS

Not just IRC. AWN itself is down as well and has been since this morning. Anyone know who to ping?

I am aware of it. Access to many servers has been affected and engineers are working to restore it.

@orgin
Shouldn't it be possible to keep the Amigans server online regardless of the whatever sickness is festering in AW.net?
Maybe there should be a set of Amigans servers instead?
Here's hoping...

More info: Quote: Hello,
Thank you for your request.
Want to let you know that our DC technicians are still checking all the VPS nodes in a row because of the yesterdays outage. We will let you know once the hostnodes will back to the production mode, so you will be able to check your server and escalate any problems for a further troubleshooting.
As you probably already know, at 5pm (CEST) 14.10.2020 there was a power failure in a section of our datacenter SXB, which was caused by an error in the UPS (Uninterruptible power supply). In the meantime we switched the UPS into a bypass. The affected servers will be restarted step by step. Therefore it may take some time in individual cases until your product is available again. We are working with highest priority to make the services available again. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this.
Regards, Technical Support Team

You see the irony here? The hardware that should keep the machines running even on power failure, caused the power failure.
Thanks Orgin for the updates

Yay!
At least it looks like orgin's IRC service is back up and running.
Now, what do we need to do to get the Amiga channels mirrored/shared on other services so we can avoid the current "all eggs in one basket" server situation?
/me knows nothing about IRC server config.
Thanks,
PJS

Yeah sorry, forgot to start it up again.
I don't really use IRC myself any more so I don't really notice when it's missing unfortunately.
Perhaps it would be better if the irc deamon was handled by someone that actually uses IRC.

Hi Orgin,
An update...
I'm sorry to say that while the server is somewhat online, it's been quite unreliable. Every few minutes to few hours (I see no pattern), you get kicked from the server which then refuses new connections for a little while. Here's an example:
«Net Error» Connection to server "irc.orgin.biz" lost (Error 54, Connection reset by peer) «Connect» Looking up host "irc.orgin.biz"... «Connect» Attempting connection to host "irc.orgin.biz" (85.25.209.116) on port 6667... «Net Error» Unable to connect. Error code 61 (Connection refused)
Any ideas why it might be misfiring so?
Thanks in advance!
PJS

@pjs Might be related to this: Quote: Hi,
we would like to inform you about an upcoming emergency maintenance in our Datacenter Strasbourg (EU). This maintenance is necessary after the outage on October 14th in order to further optimize the quality and actuality of our infrastructure.
The maintenance will be carried out in the night from Thursday, October 22nd, 2020 to Friday between 10PM until 6AM CEST. (For our international customers: CEST/Central European Summer Time = UTC +2)
During this time we expect a one-time network interruption of between 5 - 10 minutes.
For further questions, please use the support ticket system in panel or contact our customer service by phone.
Thank you for your time and understanding.
Your Support Team
But again, if someone wants to host the IRC server, or rather, an IRC server then I'd be happy to redirect the hostnames there. The current IRC server is running a really really old version and hasn't been updated for years.
