You could open a separate thread here or on the hyperion forum about your GCC questions. Like that, others programmers will found the uestions more easily.

@diegocr Quote: Why don't give it a try and tell us for yourself if there's any downsides? Because I don't have the time to go heavily testing every new piece of software. Most likely I'll install it with a brief test that it works, but I won't notice until much much later there is some problem (by which time I may have forgotten I've installed the new software & therefore have no idea of the cause). It is a lot simpler to ask other people if any major problems with it first, to avoid wasting my time. After all, communication (and the spreading of knowledge) is the primary purpose of the internet (at least until someone had the idea of posting funny cat videos on YouTube).

@Mrodfr I still haven't actually tried the new library myself, but I saw several reports about DVD colour problems, and I assumed that this had been reported to the library's developers... If TommySammy can't help you, then try asking JurassicC. Also, I may be able to provide a bit more info if you contact me privately ( by email).

Hello, Too bad you can't test the libray on the 2 amigas you have. Just play some seconds same DVD on your 2 amigas and we could be sure if the problem is only on the X1000. If yes, I could, or Diego, could contact Hans and ask him to test the Library ? (if he don't know a new avcodec.library exit). No problem like that on A1 with radeon, sam440 and sam440flex. Raziel can also test last beta but he has never given a sign of life

Quote: KimmoK wrote: Is there a PPC440ep optimised version?
As it seems with both dvplayer and mplayer I get 100% CPU load (667Mhz SAM), I imagine the playback could benefit from DSP instructions being used.
Anyone done any study on using DSP instruction of PPC440?
I have to say I tried one or two years ago to profile ffmpeg on the Sam440 but that didn't give results that would justify to spend a huge amount of time. About MAC instructions, they can only be used in very limited cases and that are difficult to identify. Pixel computing could be one of these cases but if the compiler doesn't generate MAC instructions by itself, that means the code needs to be updated step by step. When I investigated that, the most consuming part was in a filter operation. Even trying to optimize, the pressure was so high that the effects were not visible.

@diegocr I am hardly going to install a library which is known to cause problems with DVD playback am I? But I will most likely install the next version, since in all other cases it seems to now be working fine (by all reports I have seen).
It's sad to see someone stoop to insulting others (apparently without even engaging their brain first). And even sadder to see it happening on Amigans.net . I'm not even sure what I did to offend you.
But since I was trying to be helpful (within the limits of my available time), I shall know better to not try next time.

Sorry for not addressing the ml or this thread. I dont have much free time nowadays, but will of course do everything i can to help development on project i actually can. Just for the record...i *never* had crash issues with any of the lib builds (though i might have skipped some builds due to missing spare time). The only thing i encountered was a gfx corruption of the sorts of "colour smearing" while a slow camera movement in the video took place...i wasnt even able to write a proper bug report, as it was fixed so fast I am in work again right now and cant participate in the beta testing until next week, but the only thing i am actually testing right now anyway is the speed difference between altivec and non-altivec builds, because everything else runs fine I hope to have helped a little bit
