We should ask E-UAE maintainer for a Sam optimized version!

Unfortunately the E-UAE maintainer is *quite* silent the last 6 month...hope he is well

You were right, this beta version runs MUCH slower on my Sam440. I will stick to the old version for the moment. I look forward to a newer version, because the GUI is really nice :) .

I am having one problem, though. I don't seem to be able to save configuration files with the GUI. Am I doing something wrong, or is this not available yet?

It should work (It does here of course). "Save default" just saves the config into .uaerc and "Save as" pops up an ASL requester where you can enter the name of the to-be-saved file.

"Save default" crashed for me too. Maybe something to do with what's stored in the config file? You can find my current config here.

found this over at AW:

Don't know if it'll bring more performance on your setup, or not, but you may give it at try.

I tried this out and it does have a definite performance increase in E-UAE overall on my Sam though still slow to be enjoyable for many games

As I mentioned on AW.net, that v0.8.29-sam is VERY SLIGHTLY slower than v0.8.28 . But given 667MHz Sam is barely enough in some cases, I think we need all the speed we can get, so I'm sticking with v0.8.28 for the moment.

Secondly, using the UAE config I posted on AW.net, I can get (say) 95% of games running pretty smoothly (ignoring the very occasional brief glitch) with 667MHz. Hence your 800MHz Sam should handle virtually everything fine using that config.

ya I tried those settings but I'm still getting very slow results...maybe because I'm using Cyborg's GUI

Yes, the GUI version is VERY SLOW by comparison. Please use one of the other versions, along with my config (you should NOT need to edit the config at all).

I tried all version including the Sam-Recompile (of the newer version) and the old 0.8.28 is the fastest sadly.
Probably the use of SDL in the newer version is bogging everything down. If m3x could do a re-compile of the 3.8.28 using the IBM library we would probably get the best UAE for Sam ever!

ok thanks Chris..I'll give it a try as per your suggestions but I don't understand when you say I don't have to modify the settings?

@ DAX

yes let's hope we get a Sam modified version soon

I mean that the GUI should not be necessary. As long as the Kickstart ROM has the specified filename, then you do not need to edit it at all. Just run E-UAE, then press Ctrl-Alt-F1 to select a floppy disk. Ctrl-Alt-R to reset, and Ctrl-Alt-Q to quit.

Any progress in stopping E-UAE from making OS4 unstable after you quit it? This bug is probably going to receive quite a lot of attention when I release my program that makes it incredibly easy to run old Amiga games on OS4 (e.g. just double click a WHDLoad game to run it in E-UAE).

No. I don't have a frigging clue what is going on inside E-UAE which makes the system unstable. It's definitely not my GUI as I tried a compile without it with the very same results.

So I guess this is one of the bugs only Rich can fix himself, sorry.

Damn

If the instability is reproducable for you, then you ought to be able to compile E-UAE such that it quits at various points during start-up. You should then be able to find roughly where it starts behaving badly, which should give a big hint where to look.

My program to run old Amiga games easily with E-UAE is called RunInUAE, and will be announced shortly.
