That happenes all the time, with all OS4 versions and updates. If i remember right, the same problems also on OS3.9 (that mean bad sgrab itself).

Like you run it first time, and it runs good, for second its always say about unabling of arexx blabal (because of it on openamiga project about replacing sgrab are starts).

But to be honest dunno why author cant fix sgrab at last. Maybe no one report it ?

that's the solution. don't start it twice
after all it is a commodity which is started once at startup and then called via keypress.

Nice one. Didn't know that. But a notify too from the program would be nice.

Stephan Rupprecht (the author) once told me why the error message about a missing arexx interface comes up.

If you click on the close gadget of SGrab it is NOT closed (quit) instead it will be hidden (iconified). Therefore due to the fact the arexx interface is still in use, the error message pops up.

If you want to close SGrab you have to do it from the menu.

Why he chose to design it that way i don't remember or he forgot to tell me back then

sgrab it's a commodity so it's normal that the close
gadget only close the interface and not the commodity
itself, the bad thing it's the message,
it's better something like "sgrab it's allready running etc."

I still don't get why running SGrab a second time doesn't just "wake up" the first instance like any commodity does.

Yes, SGrab is a commodity and so it's still lurking around in memory somewhere, and I agree that it would be good if the interface of the already loaded program would appear when trying to start it again.

But this conversation made me realize something: My OS4.1 Update 1 CD doesn't have SGrab on it! I didn't verify the disk before installing. I wonder what else is missing or corrupted.

<grumble grumble grumble>

Edit: I have just verified the CD against Sam440InstallCD-Upd1.iso which I still have on my hard drive, and it checks out OK with AmiDVD. But there is no SGrab on the CD. The drawer is there, in Utilities, and it has some stuff inside that looks like it is related to USB. Does anyone else see this or am I the only one?

No, it's a program in Sys:Utiilties.Should be version 1.29 (07/06/2006). Did you look before leaping?

I would like to Python applied instead old ARexx.

My SGrab drawer is a portal to alternate realities. It does not contain the same drawers and files as it did last night. Now the one on the CD is empty, but the one on my Workbench partition contains a "Sys" drawer containing "amigaguide.guide" and "Workbench.guide" in what looks like Polish. There is no sign of the usb-related files from the other night.

I fear something must be wrong with my filesystem.

However, I have checked the CD against the .iso and AmiDVD says it's the same. I have tested the .lha file from the command line and there are no errors. I haven't tested that the .iso is the same as the one in the .lha file yet, and I haven't compared with the .lha file on the USB stick I transported the update file on. USB was very buggy before Update 1 and I depended on it to get the update to my Sam. I will have to look into this further.

I consider it a commodity no matter where it is stored, if it keeps running with no GUI and can have the GUI restored with a keypress or from Exchange.

Thanks for the version info. It's the same one as came with the previous version of the OS, so I have copied it.
