The fact that it's still needed should be made more clear to everybody. Anything that helps in terms of speed is more than welcome.

I'll probably become very unpopular now but, it's not time to drop OS4.0 support? OWB has become very reliable and con be used by OS4.0 users proficiently for some year without changes (see IBrowse). What i'm saying here is Sam440 are pretty affordable and OS4.x is progressing nicely. If someone really wants latest/full featured versions of the programs should upgrade.
So you could start using "advanced" OS features like dynamic linking, Cairo, new pthreads library versions...

Can you also explain me why the your Cairo text rendering is faster than the OS built in version? Can your changes be applied to the OS as well?

The drivers are both 2D and 3D.
Actually 2D only are working properly (HW acceleraded).
3D drivers are still very basic.

Here is their status update sentence:
Currently, there is 2D-support, and a very limited 3D support for extremely lucky developers.

It's still quite basic but it's very promising and it works on PPC (also on PS 3).

There was a thread on AW.net on the proper configuration of FFS, it seems that after the normal installation it is set in a very sub-optimal way.
It was proven that changing the parameters in the right way could greately increase the performance.

Anyway SFS remains superior!

I was at Pianeta Amiga 2006 and and they told me that on request it would be possible to produce a version if the motherboard in 7x7 cm...so the answer is.. it isn't impossible...
