Re: THEA500 Mini
Just popping in
Just popping in

I've bought an A500 Mini, because I find it difficult to set up various WHDload games, although I have set up some, but I also plan to try and use it for more serious software as well. I have bought a 32Gb card with an updated hacked Workbench containing lots of WHDload games for my A1200 with 10Mb, but found it's quite hit and miss which ones will run!

I think that The A500 Mini has the potential to become a big selling mass market machine, so by buying one I think I'm voting for that and it might just happen!

So far, I've applied the .uae file hack to give access to the Amiberry window, but haven't yet managed to get it to run any adf files. The ones I've tried might have been corrupt or somehow incompatible with The A500 Mini.

One thing I'd really like to do with The A500 Mini is to get a graphics tablet working with The A500 Mini and Deluxe Paint. I've never ever used a graphics tablet with Deluxe Paint, only a mouse, so that would be a big advantage. I don't know if this would be possible. Does anyone know what kind of graphics tablet might work? Is it more likely to be one which is compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, Raspberry Pi, or some other system? Would it need a special driver? How could it support the classic Amiga graphics resolutions? How does The A500 Mini manage to use its USB ports in Amiga games and Amiga/Workbench OS?

I also wish there was an Amiga layout USB keyboard, but there don't seem to be any for sale anywhere. I think I'll just have to apply some Amiga A stickers to the unsightly Windows keys!

@ChrisH

It sounds great! I'm sorry I wasn't there. Of course it was mainly Amiga stuff, but why was it unwanted?

BTW, I managed to burn a "Live" version of Aeros onto DVD, but it may not be suitable for installation. The version which may be suitable wouldn't finish being burnt to DVD.

I think I might go to the Recursion Fair on 15-02-14. I hope I might be allowed to do some artwork, music, or even a demo while there.

Sorry I didn't make it to the meeting after all! What did I miss? Please give some details, instead of saying "Not much" or similar.

The years listed for the events have read 1947, 1987, and 2033 since the first time I saw them.

I have recently been doing some more artwork, as well as playing the games Colonization and Civilization, but it would be great to have another tournament of Sensible Golf. In the near future I hope to code at least a simple demo, based on some YouTube videos by Photon of Scoopex, modifiying some existing demo code, and going over the whole of a course written in Denmark. I've also downloaded a PDF book in German called "Spiele Programmierung in Assembler auf dem Amiga" by Jorgo Schmanski, which may not have been published in English, so that will probably help. Quick searches on Google, as well as Amazon don't list any books by him in English.

@ChrisH

It's a pity this information hasn't been posted on the website. It seems obvious that the pattern is the second Sunday of each month, though.

I hope to make it along to this meeting where I plan to show off my prototype next gen Amiga which I'm hard at work building from an old Mac G4 board, some rubber bands, some sticky backed plastic, and a salvaged PC tower case. I think the total cost of this lot was less than £10!

If this project fails, I'll just upgrade my A1200, though!

I think the problem with attendance at that Amiga show may have been that people hadn't got the hang of time travelling between 1947, 1987, and 2033, as listed on the website. There should be a good crowd for the 2033 show after planning and waiting for so long, though.

Thanks for the contact details! I've just sent Trevor a message telling him that Catweazle is an ITV series.

Of course, my Saturday night/Sunday morning spent at home was following a big night out the previous night, which ended at 06:00.

Now I'm off to study some Amiga C Programming. This is computing not communication, as pointed out on BBC Click a few years ago.

Oh dear! What have I missed? What a disaster!

I'm afraid I didn't make it this time because the night before I was drinking plenty of red wine while doing some artwork of a super hero character I invented myself, but in DC/Marvel style. I eventually passed out on the sofa, then when I woke up, I felt I had to go to bed, but didn't get any more sleep. After all this, I didn't have enough energy to come to this month's meeting. Still, at least I didn't drink loads of Absinthe and cut off my ear like Vincent van Gogh!

I'm very sorry to have missed Trevor Dickinson. I was trying to contact him to correct a mistake he made on his blog, although this was only loosely connected to the Amiga. I can't find any way to contact him. The mistake was that, in spite of which company markets it in various countries, the classic TV series Catweazle, which the Amiga device Catweasel is named after, was by ITV, not the BBC!

BTW, I've just bought some more Amiga hardware, which I'll bring along to the next meeting.

I plan to be there as well. I felt too tired last month. I hope people will be doing something creative instead of mainly using the Internet, which they could do on a phone.

I hope someone can check my parallel port after all this has happened http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=62243 .

I was there, but I didn't know about the food because I hadn't read about it on here. That advice should have been posted on the ANT website. I ate before I went out. Thanks for the free pizza slices and chicken strips, though. That amount was all I felt like eating.

Unfortunately, there's no news on the ANT website about the date of the next meeting, but perhaps it will be the 2nd Sunday in January. In any case, I don't think anyone will miss it, because according to the News page, the club members have already time travelled to events in 1947, 1987, and 2033!
