Re: SUBWAY USB on AmigaOS4.0 (A1200T-PPC)

@Mikey_C

Hi Mickey, AFAIK Poseidon Subway driver doesn't use DMA so it should work. Perhaps there's some problem with Poseidon's input.device clashing with OS4 one?

Remember to install fat95 and TD64 patch so it works better.

Take a look at Gilloo's USB stack, it looks cool

I could say the same about AmigaOS4.1, but MUI has easy 3rd party class support: just look at AmigaOS3.x MUI, there are dozens of classes developed by third party coders.

@joerg

The difference is that it's easy to create new MUI custom classes. E.g. check out AROS OWB port with custom tab class that allows adding/removing tabs

@virgola

I studied a little the sources some years ago and I think it would require memory mapping functions to relocate the first kilobytes of memory (it's used by MacOS) when the sheepshaver task is active. I don't know if it's documented how to do that or if it's possible at all.

@nubechecorre

Bernd Meyer has offered his m68k->PPC JIT to anyone capable of understanding how a JIT works and that wants to iron up a pair of bugs that exist.

If there's somebody capable of doing this it's Richard, but I doubt he has enough spare time ATM.

There are different overlay formats, MPlayer and/or AMP2 will probably work.

-Tabs! so I can open various pages simultaneously. I don't need various windows but tabs would be great.

-OS4.0 compatibility: for CSPPC OS4 owners

@Mikey_C

The PSU may be half-dead. Check out with a multimeter that it really gives +5V. You may want to fit a proper PSU.

Once you have added a new PSU, don't forget to check with the multimeter which floppy disk connector pins are +5v and +12v. Once it's clear you are ready for a (slightly dangerous) phase: give additional power to your miggy using the floppy disk connector of your A1200. This will give you more stability and will avoid killing the tracks of your A1200 motherboard due to excessive power load.

@mike

have you tried reflashing it?

BTW... now that you say it... Mine works fine as MKIII but when something PPC is loaded it acts strangely with mem.

Maybe I have to write a WarpOS test app to see if the PPC part can access memory and that kind of stuff...

@LiveForIt

They should only have changed the multiplier, not the bus speed.

Anyway I can't remember if the PPC uses different voltage.

@Raziel

A friend of mine is looking at my CSPPC and sometimes the PPC part works (It loads MOS completely and it's useable for a while), sometimes it doesn't. He knows that some component creates a "shortcut" sometimes when it's working but he doesn't know which one.

@MamePPCA1

You could boot Win95, but network doesn't work and CirrusLogic/VESA emulation doesn't work very well.

Anyway it's too slow for serious use...

You'd better try to port QEmu as it should be way faster than Bochs

@Raziel

The PPC cpu may be alive if the power circuit just in the other side of the PPC cpu broke. That was happened to mine.

Anyway if UAE emulated the CSPPC hardware at least you would be able to run OS4 if your hardware dies. What about a bounty for integrating a PPC emulator into UAE?

A CSPPC costs *at least* 600?

A Picasso4 around 300?

Catweasel 50?

I saw a similar A4000T sell for 3000? on eBay...

Petunia is usually faster than a real 680x0, including 060.

And it's much faster than a real 040.

Hi!

I've heard there's an updated version that shows colours correctly on OS4-final but where could I download it?

BTW, does someone have a list of OS4-final compatible demos?

I tried Multiverse by Loonies and other demos without luck.

BTW, is it possible to run WarpOS stuff on OS4-final?

@LiveForIt

more OS4 users than classic users? yeah! of course. Don't make me laugh please.

And you think they'll prefer to waste 800€ on second hand amigaOnes instead of continue running all the amiga software they want?

They can run most of amiga software and OS4/MOS only apps are usually video players and programs that run much better on other cheaper platforms (e.g. a 30€ dvd player)

Releasing OS4/MOS only apps being able to release OS3 versions is like shooting at your own feet.

Take as an example AmiNetRadio. It's a 68k app with PPC modules. That's the right way to go.

Also remember that Amithlon/UAE are faster running 68k apps than real amigas.

If you release a 68k app it will run on classic amigas, emulators, OS4 and MorphOS. If you release it just for a single platform it will be used just by a small minority.

I had problems with a listview and my hardware and that is the reason I stopped.

@LiveForIt

Running BasiliskII on UAE? That sounds pretty masochistic. I tried Basilisk II on my CSPPC+Voodoo3 and it didn't feel slow. I didn't test it much but it should be *much* faster than running it through UAE.

Re: BasiliskII

I ported BasilisKII last year to OS4 (before doing the quick port of Bochs).

The GUI isn't finished yet (my listbrowser is crashing), sound works and gfx in 32bit/monochrome too. I'm not sure about network working (it probably will require vlink.device from aminet or disabling the normal connection). It's not much work, but it has to be done.

There are a pair of betatesters using it.

Development stopped because I have been unable to use my A4000 all this year. Now that my A4000 seems to work, I have ordered an ide<->uwscsi adaptor to replace my 2 dead barracudas :_(

If someone is really, really interested in trying it out I may send him an old version (but as I did some experiments blindly without having a working machine I hope I find the right version and not a test one).

If there's interest about it I could upload a pre-release with limited features so people can enjoy photoshop 4 ;-P

And yes, being an StarCraft fan I checked out also SheepShaver but its sources are very dirty compared to BasiliskII. It also uses some memory mapping functions that make it harder to port (just if you don't have a clue about mmap/os4mem apis like me...)

@klesterjr

my OS4 port was done quickly thanks to the MorphOS port. Lots of thanks to Itix for his hard work porting it!
