Top score for the dead duck closely followed by the wedding.

Well, nBache scored pretty good too. ;)

I never seem to remember any good stories.

@orgin

You're right. Open source is probably not the solution for OS4.

Actually a friend answered this very well on one of the swedish forums, but I lack the time to translate it right now. I agree with most of his words:

And with that link, I don't have any more to say. ;)

That seems weird. I assume that other programs that use the same memory, work okay.

Do you have the same behaviour with the CPU cache disabled?

@Mikey_C

It seem to me that there is a lot of concern, fear and nervousness in all this.

Can't we just calm down and not think the worst of everything?

I can't see how "we" - the community - can resolve this for the companies involved. "We" don't have nearly all the pieces needed for doing a justified settlement for them. "We" always think "we" have all the pieces, though - and that's the big problem. "We" overreact to everything and think that it will kill the last pieces of the Amiga. The most dangerous part in all this is actually "we".

Please spend some time in the beautiful sunshine, have some beers, and most importantly - have some faith.

@Billsey

Yes, their actions suspicious. The only thing I think you can do, is to firewall them out of your site. It doesn't seem like it helps to contact them anyway. They are hunting illegal material but their methods are almost as illegal ... :/

Contact your web hotel provider and see what they can do about it. Just tell them that you have seen that this IP (or site) is using up all your bandwidth and that you would like to lock them out.

Hopefully that will help.

I don't think anyone has sicced them upon your site.

It's more likely robots trying to sniff up illegal links to copyrighted material.

I got my A1k when Workbench 1.1 had newly arrived. I'm not sure when that was, but I think it was in January or February 1986.

I got the A1k with extra 256 kB chipmem, an extra diskdrive and a few programs - Marble Madness, Instant Music and DeLuxeMusic.

... and no. Wisdom doesn't have to come from having a computer a long time (or with age for that matter) - who has claimed that? Who is ever wise? The one who claims he's wise, is most probably not so wise ...

Re: A4000: IDE on UW-SCSI?

@Raziel

Ah, okay. The pictures you show are adapters that convert between SCSI systems - not IDE.

I have a converter here that converts from SCA-68pin UW-SCSI to 50 pin narrow SCSI with built in active termination for the upper 8 bits.

@Raziel

Hi!

The Acard adapter on the first link you showed us will work, I have one for 50-pin SCSI that I use in my Amiga on the CD-burner, so I reckon the UW-SCSI one will work also.

The other link doesn't work because it seems to show your shopping cart. We can't see that.

Make a search on the product you want to show us.

I looked for something that had with IDE -> SCSI, but had no luck.

The adapter may seem a little expensive, but it can very well save you money compared to buy a full breed SCSI unit. :)

What may be a problem with the SCSI adapter, and you don't have other units on the chain, is that the adapter doesn't give you term power. But I'm not sure about this. It seems I have that problem here at least with the narrow adapter.

A week ago or so, I exchanged my system to use an IDE drive with 80 GB, and tried to disconnect my noisy UW drive but then I got errors in the transmissions even though everything was terminated as before. With the UW-SCSI connected, it's allmost perfekt (only some glitch sometimes). I solved this by spinning the UW-SCSI unit down by running UnitControl early in the su-s. Not perfect, but good enough for now. I, myself, is a little keen on trying that UW-adapter. :) But the money flow is very low atm, so it has to wait.

Well. Last and most important. The real thing is best of it all even though it has a price tag. Real SCSI is best, has best performance, best reliance, etc.

edit: Btw, Amigaz. I think I use that Yamaha one converter ... That maybe why I can't make it work 100% here. I think I read something that it was more or less made for CD.

Re: Advice for a Scanning Newbie

@Billsey

I didn't suggest that since I assumed that your scanner has a black background on the lid.

But, that's correct. It's better, but if the paint has soaked into the paper (as it almost always does more or less), it doesn't help much. Thin glossy paper is very hard.

Re: Advice for a Scanning Newbie

@Billsey

When I think a little. There are two other alternatives too, but they are not easy.

1. Scan the other side also. Mirror it and subtract it with the same intensity as it appears on your picture.

Important to think of to succeed:
a. correct rotation of both sides
b. correct amount to subtract.

2. Paint the back side with the same kind of black colour. The problem is to find the right colour so you don't sabotage your picture. If it goes to deep into the paper, it will ruin the picture it self.

So, this probably leaves only my first "easy" tip or number one here. Number two is probably out of the question.

@Billsey

Try adjusting brightness to 15 and contrast to 30 on this picture. That is probably the easiest way.

The problem is that the colours go into the paper and changes its behaviour in light.

The only thing you can do is to use a dimmer light in the scanner, but than you will get other problems. Like bad contrast and more noise when expanding the contrast.

Re: Script for Changing all drawer icons?

@spotUP

Hm, rather simple.

Try this:

list >ram:fafa dirs lformat "if exists *"%F%N.info*"*Necho *"changing icon for %F%N.info*"*Nelse*Necho *"no icon for %F%N*"*Nendif"

It should give you a textfile in RAM called FAFA. Type it, edit it or execute it.

When you're ready to exchange your icons, find a tool that does that for you and replace the first echo with smthn like this:

changeicon *"%F%N.info*" ... etc.

If you run the above line with list, you will get smthn like this in RAM:fafa

if exists "system.info"
echo "changing icon for system.info"
else
echo "no icon for system"
endif
.... for each drawer name in that location

Notes. The *" is for giving a quote to the script rather than quoting at execute time.
%F is the path and %N is the filename.
*N is for new line in script.

If you want to run a whole partition, add ALL after list.

Good luck.

(Havn't tested it but hope it'll work for u. the echo is good for testing before really executing.)

(sorry, a few updates since i forgot some important things.)

Re: Does Remote Software into Amiga exist?

@Mikey_C

Well, I didn't succeed either this time, but it's a long time since I used it and I havn't used it more than one time I think. Maybe I was lucky.

Well. It wasn't installed on my 4000, so I tried installing it as said in the guide.

I then started the prefered screendepth from storage/montors.

I changed password tooltype from Workbench.

I started avnc from Workbench.

I started a RTG program (BetaScan actually) and selected the vnc-screen as screen in BetaScans screenmode selector.

I switched over to the PC and started the VNC-client giving the IP of my Amiga and the password.

The connection was established, but I got no picture as far as I could see. Don't know why. I will see if I can find some time to test this a little better some other day perhaps.

@Mikey_C

If VNC works under AOS4, then that's your solution. I have used it under 3.9 a couple of years ago, and it worked just fine. It was little fun to remote my Amiga from work.

Lets see if I can find any links.

Here's a server for the Amiga:
http://s.guillard.free.fr/AmiVNC/AmiVNC.htm

Here's a client for your other machine:
http://www.realvnc.com/download.html

Maybe that's something to start with.
