@xeron
Hence my suggestion of running 68k Quake in AGA mode at a given screensize using the speed test function.

It depends on the game, but most games are as fast as on a real Amiga.
Do you mean on an A500? And presumably the A1 cpu you are using makes a major difference. Maybe a reasonable benchmark would be how fast it would run 68k Quake AGA at a given resolution. Quake has that speed test thing built in doesn't it?

I am wondering if one of you can help me with what I think may be a hardware issue in my A1200-T which uses the Blizzard 1240 68040@40MHz.
Is it possible to run the system without the 040 attached? If it is perfectly stable without it, at least you will know what you need to address.

Yup, I recently tried ICab with Shapeshifter on my 1200 060 Voodoo3 Amiga. IBrowse (and probably any other Amiga browser) flies in comparison.

Apologies, I saw mention of Aladdin CD32 on a website, but I've looked further and it does not actually seem to exist - unless sombody has written the floppy game to CD in a way that will work with the CD32.
Sorry.

I think most of the good CD32 games can as easily be played on a 1200/4000 equipped with a CD and CD32 emulation software.
Having said that I cant get my CD32 emulation script to run now that I have a Mediator, (anybody got any ideas with that?)
So do you just want good Amiga games on your CD32 or are you after games that surpass the original Amiga versions?
That aside, if you like Adventures I'd say get Beneath a Steel Sky and Simon the Sorceror, which are both talkie soundtrack jobs, and are quite highly rated.
As mentioned Tower Assault has got a fairly "unique" FMV intro which is pretty amusing.
UFO is not so good on CD32 in that it doesn't save all the info for you.
How about Gunship 2000?
2 space games that are certainly excellent on a 1200 are the CD32 version of WingCommander and the CD/CD32 version of Star Crusader. You might want to check my reviews on the AGDB. (You'll find a lot of other CD32 reviews there as well.)
PGA Golf ought to be very good if you like that sort of thing, Putty, erm.... the CD32 version of Frontier was the latest version ever produced, but has problems using a mouse....
erm....
Banshee Heimdall 2 Aladdin Super Stardust Fire and Ice

But forget it on CD32 its low resolution, the ECS version was high res, and the CD32 version doesn't support the mouse - on a point and click adventure?!!

Its got to be the 1200. I was on my way to a computer show in 1992 and had resolved to buy an accelerator for my 500 plus. It was at this show that Commodore unveiled the A1200 to the unsuspecting public, so after some intense thought I decided to change my plans and buy this new machine instead. I had appreciated the 1200 was a 68020 based machine, but reading through the literature on the train I discovered it had 2 megs as standard! Anyway, its been with me ever since. That particular model is resting at the moment, but I think you''d be hard pushed to find a piece of electronic design that has been expanded and developed as much as the 1200 motherboard. My own relatively modest model, being 68060, Voodoo3 and TV card with ADSL, something surely undreamed of by its designers 14 years ago. And a further essential selling point? It will play everything from Marble Madness and Carrier Command to Super Stardust AGA, UFO: Enemy Unknown and Quake. ...and under emulation I'm playing Mechwarrior (pc) and Warcraft and X-Wing (Mac).

I don't remember seeing a draft, but I gathered the point was to protect Hyperion and Eyetech from spending lots of time and money on their respective tasks and then being prevented from doing anything with it, if Amiga Inc's situation had changed.

Just looking at possibilities....
Are you able to use a different display method at all, for instance if you are displaying via the RGB, can you use the RF out instead, or vica versa?
Did you have floppy drive activity before?
Is there a hard drive that might have had its cable knocked?
Have any of your friends got a spare 1200/600/500 power supply in their attic? :)

I agree with most of what's been said. I would avoid the 040 if you can, unlike the 030 or 060, its happier being cooled and there are some bugs which make it less likely to work with some WHDLoad patched games.
With OS3.9 you'll get the Genesis TCP stack which I think works better than its competitors using the pcmcia as an ehternet link. With one of those and an ADSL modem (with ethernet link) you should be laughing internet wise.
If you really want to expand, you could do much worse than get a tower, a mediator board and a Voodoo3 which will give a very cool display. You then have to think about how you'll display ECS/AGA games, I use a TV card in the mediator, which I'm very happy with.
It sounds like you don't want to get into all that yet though, very wise :)
Probably the best accelerator you can get is a Blizzard 1230 mark IV, or the Blizzard 1260 and you'll have the option of attaching a scsi connector to it which you could use in conjunction with a scsi CD drive for example.
Anyway, all the very best with it - you ST filth! ;)
