Re: EntwicklerX - Starfall Defenders released for AmigaOS4

Just popping in

Hi @ all:
Thanks for looking into our new game and thanks for playing.

For AmiBoing: We don´t know when we get it done to make a small relaunch. I started working on it but had to prioritize to other projects. So it may come or not.. or a bit later ;)

M.A.C.E. TD 2: Yes, the plan was to make MaceTD2 in 3D but also because of the time and more work as expected, we decided to make a 2D TD before... but the plan is to bring a 3D M.A.C.E. TD 2 for AmigaOS4 too.. Graphics are almost done (1 biom looks not nice, i have to rework it a bit), 100 Levels are done... and overall it works but needs more love.

In Starfall Defenders i just tested and adjusted the 70 levels over a month, it is not a nice task to play and lost 100 times per level ;) And then Frank plays the same level with the first try... we hope to have a good balance now.. but for M.A.C.E. TD 2, the 100 levels has to go through the same test process and this also needs time...

BUT: It is the plan to make this game.

Next Game is on our list, it is Radon Break. It runs already on OS4 but the performance is bad.. so we have to optimize and rebuild some graphics to get a smooth gameplay. We hope it is possible but we have some ideas to get it ;)

Starfall Defenders is a classic tower defense game that features unique towers and enemies. It also has an in-game shop system that allows players to purchase better towers, upgrade existing ones, and buy special items like the Atom Bomb, Splash Bomb, and Air Supply.

Players can earn coins for the shop by defeating boss enemies, saving lives, and unlocking new maps.

But Starfall Defenders offers more than just placing, upgrading, and selling towers. Players can also improve their gameplay by placing mines, blocking walls and electric fields directly on the path, and taking control of a tower’s direction and target. This player-controlled action is a unique feature within a defense game that allows players to directly hit their enemies.

- Shop system for buying and upgrading towers, buy specials
- 8 upgradable towers (2 power-ups each)
- Support towers, special attacks, path-placed items
- Unique enemies
- Unlockable levels
- Tower Control Mode: Take control over the target and direction of a tower
- Towers: Gun, Laser, Fireblaster, EMP, Cannon, Rocket, Flak, Artillery
- Power-up for each tower: Damage, Fire rate, Range
- Path-placed items: Mine, Electro Field, Block Wall
- Support Towers: Power Enhancement, Range Enhancement

Thomas and Frank from EntwicklerX have started a Patreon page to share early information about game development, with a focus on games for AmigaOS4 and classic Amigas. Development for the original Amiga computers will proceed gradually, from free mini-games to larger commercial products. These small games serve as the basis for larger projects and integrate new features that will be incorporated into the more comprehensive games. Every donation allows us to invest more time in the projects and advance them.

You can also support the developers by purchasing the games here on Itch, Steam, the Google Play Store, or various game consoles.

@smarkusg

Did you tried some Warp3D Nova games like Spencer or Super Star Blast?

Thanks for a reply,
Thomas

Currently, there is only the Level which counts. I will talk to Frank if it is possible to get a Highscore calculation in the game.

Within the next months, we want to reactivate AmiBoing with minimal Highscore Upload again. Then we need an update.. so maybe wait one or two month ? ;)

First, we have to see how the year starts and how much stress we have with our work.

Not sure if it helps or not. I use 2.8 and it has performance problems when i draw a circle. But only if i have "compositing" enabled in the SDL Config (prefs/SDL). With "software" enabled, it runs well..

And if you disable "effects" (compositing) in GUI Prefs, it is faster again.. Compositing in window mode on OS4 does not work well. Maybe a Vsync issue (in Super Star Blast Window mode -> faster without effects turned on in GUI )

@Mr_byte Nice setting and we are happy that it works now for you!

Thanks to Mr_byte, we now have a window mode. It looks great beside the AmigaOS4 workbench ;)

A new Super Star Blast Update Version 1.8 is available now on AmiUpdate!

Features:
- A new tooltype, “fullscreen,” has been added. If this is removed, the game will open in window mode with the specified “screenSize.”
- Collision boxes for all enemies have been optimized.
- LCTRL and LALT keys have been added for left and right strafing.

@all: Thanks for your support, your feedback and your images from your setup. Looks great!

@328gts: AmiBoing connection is the next part. As i am not finished there, the game is without it in current state. It needs a bit more time. It will be a minimal relaunch with only highscore lists and game list with support of highscores.

@mufa
You are the second one who has a problem downloading the game on AmiStore.
I will write Matthew an Email. It is strange, that other people are able to download. From where do you coma? Maybe it is a country "lock" (the other user was from germany).

Meanwhile: Please write us an email to mail@entwickler-x.de and we send you a version.

Thank you all, we hope you have fun with the game 😀

@derfs
It is only possible at itch, because they have this system and we can upload key there… but write us an Emai (mail@entwickler-x.de)l, should be no problem if you want to play it on steam too 😀

AmigaOS4: Super Star Blast - Space Shooter
Super Star Blast has been available on PC and consoles for a while now.
We are pleased to finally be able to release the AmigaOS4 version of the game.
You can get the game as digital download version on your favorite AmigaOS Shop: @AlineaComputer @A-Eon

Super Star Blast is a space based game with challenging levels of increasing difficulty.
All enemies must be shot down to finish a level and go to the next one. A scanner around the player tells roughly where the enemies are located.
The player ship can fly forwards to attack and backwards to fight during the retreat against the opponents.
After clearing a level you can purchase equipment to boost the ship, as well as extra shields and firepower or more ships.

@sailor

I think for most people would be 720p ok. It would be nice if the card would support more but 10% are much better than 70% ;)

@sailor

You're right, the new V5 driver came with acceleration, right? I didn't consider it.

But if i remember right, it was very slow? I could be wrong.

EDIT:
Just flew over:

https://www.amigans.net/modules/newbb/ ... &order=ASC&status=&mode=0

It seems that V5 and RadeonHD7750 on X1000 only gets 720p video, same as my X1000 without acceleration. Maybe an user can prove it.

So it depends on your needs:

no warm start -> for me a problem

- But some FPS in this thread shows a better performance with the newer driver.
- Power Management works, a nice feature.
- And maybe much less CPU usage with 720p (would be enough for me).

What have you tried?

In some cases playing in screenmodes does not help. To get 50hz run, i had to uncheck the "get settings automaticaly" in the second tab of screenmodes prefs .

The second thing i did is to go to the devs/monitors/yourGFXcard Icon informations.Here is a list of screenmodes. Just make a new one with your 50hz -> 1920x1080@50.

Reboot AmigaOS and look if the new mode is available in screenmode prefs.

Good luck, i hope it works (maybe changing the tooltypes is enough, try this first).

Emotion playback:

X1000 + RX550
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa4sE2DcUdg

X1000 + R750X
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHowHS3hnWA

Frank is using his X1000 with the RX550 and it works fine.
I would miss the warm start of AmigaOS, so i currently use my RadeonHD 7750 (with the older driver, because warm start is missing in newer drivers?).

But Frank reported no problems with this RX card to me.

@Hans:
Not yet. As we currently try to restart our Amiga work again, we maybe can give you the information soon.

Frank could make an archive of super star blast if it helps. But he also want to look deeper into it, so maybe there also are some problems in the software itself (next step is also to include a performance setting screen to check/uncheck some effects, maybe we also can get closer if it crashes after turning on or of a feature ;) )

Ok, wrote as youtube comment but maybe it is also good here:

"Hi TJ, thanks for using our Emotion video player ;) A 4k video runs in your 1440p resolution. It takes your workbench resolution and scales the video up/down to this in fullscreen (it is technical a borderless window mode). The reason is, because it can switch instantly without monitor resolution switches. But you can set a DisplayID in the tooltypes of Emotion (first line: you get the ID for your target resolution in screenmode prefs). But i would prefer the current way for the better switch times but for a test it would help. Beside this: Frank, the coder, is working on an update and we hop to get it released soon. Like you, we are back in OS4 world and try to spend more time on it. Maybe you have to try some games for your RX580 next year (we have to solve some problems we currently cannot reproduce, some crashes on the one X5000 and not on the other... we will see how to fix it) ;)"

Regards and thanks for your videos!

Re: after Enhancer 2.2 upgrade, Emotion Locks up Playing MP4 Video
Just popping in

I am not sure if a player should know all Hardware instead of a library which only works on a fixed hardware. In my mind, the player should be as hardware independent as possible for don´t needing to update for every new driver version which stops using the hardware.

... only my opinion, maybe devs have a different point of view.

@mbrantley: i have a RadeonHD 7750 in my x1000 and also use an older driver. Warmstart ist important for me because OS4 needs some restarts over the day. When i play around with new or old software i have to warmstart every minute, so cold start is not an option ;)

@AmigaSociety: With your X5000 i would go for a RX550 GFX Card, so you have all features and can rename back the va.library.

@Spectre660 is right.

It seems that va.library does not know if the installed graphics card can play hardware accelerated video or not.

If it is installed, Emotion tries to use it and fails with your 7750HD.
