Great! I am happy that we have learned from this. Sounds like Iso transfer is only available to EHCI controllers then. Glad to know they are working on USB 3.0 also!

I got no error message, it just created a file according to the filename specified in the command but the file had 0 bytes.

I have a Creative XMod that I could test with if/when you get decide to make the driver work with the Sam460. The XMod has a volume knob on it if you were to implement that feature.

Re: Post-Update 6 updates

I like the new system. All updates are installed as they come in. If something breaks I can either wait until it's fixed, or roll back to the old version. If it is severe enough like when AmiUpdate was crashing, I can just remove it and install an older version.

Also, before you install the update, you can click on it and select "Info" which will tell you what has changed or what's been fixed.

It's awesome that we have something like this now, it's been a long time coming. Now we just need a package manager/store, perhaps an OS4 depot stand alone application?

Re: PCI Express devices I've tried on Sam460EX

Glad to help m3x

The Envy24DT card has its own ASMedia ASM1083 bridge mounted on the card. I have to assume that the ASMedia chip is getting the correct IRQ.

The other devices (C-Media and Wifi) required the StarTech PCIe to PCI adapter card which has the Pericom chip. That's the one that seems to collect the bad IRQs.

Hi Hans,

I downloaded the file and will run the tests for you when I get home from work, which will be about 9 1/2 hours from now.

I just verified that I did change J16 jumper to open, and changed the setting in UBoot to PCIe.

Thanks,
Jamie

Not directly on the SAM, but it worked fine on my old MicroA1 system.

PCI Express devices I've tried on Sam460EX

Hi,

here are my experiences with PCI Express cards on my Sam460EX motherboard:

Picture 1: StarTec PEX1PCI1 Pericom bridge card - This card works with my Linux box and allows me to use any PCI card through it without error. On the Sam, however, it is not so friendly...

Picture 2: Regular PCI C-Media Card through Pericom bridge card - The system seems to be able to see the C-Media card through this Pericom bridge card. Any program that tries to play sound through this device stops responding.

Picture 3: 3Com Prism2 wifi card through Pericom bridge card - When WIFI analyzer runs and this driver is in place, the system hard locks.

Picture 4: ASMedia bridge built-on to the Envy24DT PCIe sound card - This one seems to work much better, see below...

Picture 5: Envy24DT chip through its onboard ASMedia bridge - The driver shows up as ENVY24HT in AHI and I can select and configure it. Programs go through the motion of playing music, levelmeters bounce, programs do not stop responding, etc.. but sadly nothing comes from the output. I believe this may be an incompatibility with the driver though, since this chip is not the exact chip that the driver is described to control. It is in the same family however.

Forthcoming: My friend has ordered a PCI Express ESI Juli@ card and is told that delivery will be 45 days. He will report his finding when the card arrives. The PCI version of this card is directly supported by the Envy24HT AHI driver.

Thanks,
Jamie

Re: Post-Update 6 updates

Hi Hans,

Interesting thoughts. I will post my findings to a new thread. The Sil3512 came with my AmigaOne 500 system. It works beautifully in the PCI slot, and is recognized as a boot device by UBoot.

About the driver for the Envy24HT not recognizing the Envy24DT chip; I noticed on the box for the sound card it says that the chip used is the VIA VT1723, but ranger is picking up the device and calling it VT1720/24. Oddly it is giving a device number of "0x1724". (or at least that's what the system thinks)

Anyway please see my other thread regarding this subject.

Thanks,
Jamie

Re: Post-Update 6 updates

*I'm pasting this post that I made at another location because I don't like paraphrasing myself for three different forums:*

Thanks for the update to the kernel to allow PCIe use!

I wanted to post my experiences:

Envy24DT based PCIe sound card: Now Workbench does not lock when the card is inserted and the driver (Envy24HT) is loaded into AHI. The system behaves like the audio is working but nothing comes out of the card (which works fine in my linux box). As an example, TuneNet will play a song, showing the bouncing level meters and everything but audio does not come out of the card.

I believe the Envy24HT driver does not work properly with cards based on Envy24DT chips. I wonder if the driver can be updated as these Envy24DT chips can be a very inexpensive alternative to the SAM460ex onboard audio.

The other experience I had was with the Startech "PEX1PCI1" PCIe to PCI bridge adapter card. This card does not work at all with a CMI 8738 sound card that I tried and with a 3Com Prism2 Wireless adapter card. The sound card cause programs to stop responding, and the Prism2 card caused the WiFi signal monitor to completely lock the machine as soon as it was executed.

I also tried the Sii3512 card with this Startech bridge card and the system did not recognize the Sii card to boot from it.

PCIe to PCI bridge that didn't work

PCIe sound card that ALMOST works..

Re: USB audio

I thought USB audio was a generic protocol? I have a Soundblaster Xmod that I use with Win XP and Win 7 and neither computer required drivers. Just plug it in and it comes up as "Creative Xmod (Generic USB Audio)".

I've seen other USB audio adapters that are also plug in and go. I think USB audio is just a part of the overall USB HID spectrum of drivers like keyboards and mice.

To everyone interested: I've implemented I/O access over PCI-E in the AmigaOS4.1 Sam460ex kernel some days ago, it will be available in a "next" OS update.

It will be possible to use the PCI-E 1x slot directly with supported cards (audio and SATA for example), or via a PCI-E to PCI adapter.

Thank you so very much!

Apparently it is not available for bi-directional use. This is what I have gathered from reading here. Unfortunately. The onboard SM502 audio on my sam board is not working properly and there is no way to circumvent it. I have simply given up until a properly functioning driver has been released or the operating system has support for PCI-E.
