Ok, this is bad... My X1000 refuses to boot... CFE shows nicely, but when trying to load the AmigaOS boot image, it complains, that there is not enough memory...!? The serial shows, that memory is recognized, and that there is (apparently) 2048MB of it. Help??

EDIT: It booted fine just half an hour ago...

This is a bug in CFE, it's happened to me too. Fortunately it only occurs rarely. Nothing to worry about, just a little annoyance.

Hi,

I've got round to testing this on the UbuntuDVD install I have, and a quick check showed it is running fine, nice and quick.

For those of you wanting to get a copy of the UbuntuDVD, it is undergoing last minute 'tweaks' and should be available soon, possibly when Trevor gets home this week.

I went for the similar XR-2 - my core temps are running at ~55C and I can't hear my X1000 when it is turned on. You should have no problems with that one.

Basically the SE had similar problems to XE, but much more serious problems.

* Horribly picky on RAM (more so on SE then XE).
* USB (None working on SE, Missing pull down resistors on XE problems detecting if you plugged devices in or out.).

Yep, this is annoying

Quote:

* DMA not working on internal PATA connectors (Fixable on XE not on SE.).

Wrong. The internal IDE ports work noticably better when they are set to UDMA, even if it is only UDMA0. PIO does not work reliably.(Fails to boot & R/W errors)

Quote:

* Battery issue.

Not that I'd noticed.

Quote:

* I belive there are issues whit some of PCI ports.

One of them. The 66mhz slot, which has the wrong connector on, and no DMA card will work when in it. Can be used for a graphics card I believe.

Quote:

The SE should never have made it to market, XE should have been tested more before it was sold, even the MicroAmigaONE (last model from eyetech (Mai Logic) ) has issues, none of Eyetech products are great products.

I think thats a little harsh. I've used a SE for 10 years, and as people have said, find a config that works and stick with it.

what should I buy.

I guess 6450 card is useless for 3D.

For modern 3D maybe, but I ran OpenAreana on one at 900x1600 and got 50+ frames a second. As Hans has said these are very low end, but also several generations later than the cards we are used to. The 6450 f.e. is about 2x faster than a top end 9200 series card. A 6870 is 10x the performance of a 6450.

The 6570 is nice BTW, single slot and quite quiet. I expect the 6870 is a dual-slot monster.

As always with graphics cards, buy what you can afford/live with.

Yes. On an X1000 it is quite useable, I suspect XE G4 and PII G4 owners find the same. I'll be nice once it is faster though.

They are the PCI boards with Xena on them I think.

Either that or a board for the Xorro slot on the X1000, but the description is a bit too generic for that.

The latter. See here for a picture (on the right)

I have a VIA VT6212L card here, but no luck so far. Definetly not found on the PCI. I have a MicroA1 and had a NEC based card partially working. Strangely, there are no PCI problems with a SII0680 IDE controller, even a SII3112 based Adaptec was found on the PCI at least. Ok, possible that the card is broken, would have to verify this...

Edit: Hmm, the card is ok, and it seems to influence the Micro in some ways, when its plugged in. As soon as I comment out ehci in Kicklayout, the machine boots fine

Edit2: Grrr, yes, the card is working, but is NOT recognized by the ehci driver. Just the same thing as for my Adaptec SII3112 controller. Works, but not recognized by the sii3112ide driver

Here the important parts of the Ranger PCI dump:

0x3038 Rev: 0x61 (N/A)
0x1306 (Duet Technologies)

Your problem is that the card is not being recognised correctly. It should be:

Device 0x3038
Vendor 0x1106 (VIA Technologies)

ALL VIA USB cards use these ID's only the revision changes.

The ehci driver cannot work without a working uchi or ohci port for low speed.

Remove the card and clean the connector with IPA and try it again.

Check you uA1 PCI connector for broken pins/shorts too.

Also try the card in a PC make sure it's recongnised there.

Report back to us.

Hello,

I got an USB card with a VIA VT6212L chip on it. I plugged it in my AmigaOne XE (OS4.1 Update 2) and it gets recognized by the USBInspector, showing up as "Front Roothub (uhci.usbhcd/1" and "Read Roothub (uhci.usbhcd/0)"
For the purpose of testing I "turned off" the front and rear USB ports on the A1 by disabling them in the UBoot prefs editor, so I am sure it is the PCI card showing in the USBInspector.

What happens when you enable the onboard ports? You should see 4 root hubs in USB inspector

Also you do have the card in one of the 33mhz slots? It won't work in the one next to the AGP slot as it needs bus mastering.

Quote:

However no device I connect there shows up or works; be it mice, USB pens or HD.

Is it the Chip not being supported? If this is the case, any chance it will work with Update 3 or supported in future?

The chip should be supported fine, is an updated version of the onboard ones in the 686b SB chip. (With an EHCP port for USB 2.0)

What information does Ranger give about your PCI bus?

Quote:

If not, well ok, could someone please tell me which card I could use?
I made a search here and on intuitionbase but could not find any information.

NEC OHCI cards seem to be popular, and work well.

Not on mine, hence asking for assistance. It appears to be stuck to the top of the CPU, and is slightly bigger as well, making it difficult to get between cpu/heatsink.

Intuitionbase has a couple of pics in its A1G3SE section, one with fan, one without.

Quote:

Search for northbridge coolers when looking for a replacement. Get something a bit before with a separate fan rather then the integrated type you have, that way if the fan fails you don't have to replace the whole thing.

Already found an excellent replacement:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Xilence-Chipset ... 5d2d843d07#ht_1619wt_1094

Even has the right type of connector to fit the motherboard!

Quote:

I assume it's a lot less hassle with an SE since you don't have to remove the CPU module if your cooler bolts to the board.

At the moment The Fan is so well attached I can see the CPU comming with it leaving me with a dead board. Will be better when I can get the new one fitted, but it is looking more and more like this will be job for a professional.

After 9(? Is it realy 9) years, the fan on my A1G3SE CPU is finaly on it's last legs. I want to remove it, and possibly find a replacement, but I'm not sure how it's attached and don't want to remove it and my CPU at the same time!

Does anyone have experience removing these?

Hi All,

I noticed from the Amiwest reports that there seems to be a third revision of the X1000 m/b, but I can't find any info about this:

Has the spec changed again?

How does this affect the delivery schedule?

Anyone got any more info?

If the 9250 was one of the incompatible (64bit) cards, you would have no graphics or text whatsoever showing on the screen. My guess is that the card is compatable, but has gone bad. Contact the seller as to its quality. You may be able to get a refund.

Err... my 9200SE (same chipset) is 64 bit and works fine.

I have installed the card for a second time and the result is the same. I even did the boota command blindly but the following OS4 screens are also garbage.

Did you try it in a PC? I think your card is broken.

Quote:

@clint

Yes, i think that the card is not compatible. I can also not find specific info about the card, so whitout the manual i have nothing to search for. I guess i have to do an email to the seller and ask for more info about the card.

There is no such thing as a Radeon 9200/9200SE/9250 that is not AGP 2x compatable. The RV280 chip used in all these cards is AGP 2x/4x/8x

The only problem I know of is 256Mb cards appearing as 128Mb ones, but they still work as a display.

The card is not working because one of the following:

1) Card broken - You need to test it in a PC.

2) Card not fully inserted into slot (You've checked this so not important)

3) Wrong Bios i.e. Flashed for use on a Mac. UBoot uses the Bios to initalise the card, and needs a PC Bios for this.

Can you attach a terminal to the serial and tell us what is being sent duing boot?

Hi,

I have an ati radeon 9250 agp graphics-card from ebay but it does not work with u-boot 1.1.1 from 3/3/2005 on my SE.

I get vertical coloms in white on a black background and a flickering screen and i can see no text, just a flikkering cursor somewhere below.

My question is what causes these coloms instead of the usual text that i see with my radeon 7500 card.

Here is a ebay-link to the card.

Could it be that this card is not compatible?

This looks very like the 9200SE I have in my SE (Which works perfectly BTW), and is keyed to fit in an AGP 2x slot. There are 2 possiblities I would check: Make sure the card works, get it tested on a PC if you can, Make sure you've got pushed all the way into the AGP connector, I've seen at least one instance where a graphics card (AGP) is screwed to the backplane, but not connected fully to the motherboard.

Good luck (should be nice card if you can get it to work)
