Re: SAM460ex and frequent lock-ups make the system almost unusable
Just popping in

Happy new year to all! I appreciate all the answers which came rather fast in true Amiga spirit. However, some serious work comitments kept me away from spending time for and with the Amiga. Thank you for the warm support so far.

Anyhow, here it goes with my progress:

a) reinstalled OS4.1 FE + updates + hotfix. No further add-ons and apps. In addition, I realized that the previous owner had installed an SD card which remained in the SD slot. Without this and with only one hard disk installed, my system seems to work almost perfectly. It just freezes once in a while mainly when I'm firing OWB or unzipping files to RAM.
b) I must still run memtester and check the version of version.library as suggested by walkero (thanks George)

As of now, my only problem is that I can't reach a resolution higher than 1024x768. I have a 6450 Radeon gfx card without any additional drivers but this doesn't seem right, does it? Any ideas or workarounds?

Thanks for the response. I'm thinking the same about testing different disks and maybe an SD. How should the jumpers be set in case of a PCI card? I suppose that if they were set up the wrong way the system wouldn't boot at all or maybe not? Anyhow, if I want to try the SD solution, is there anything I should know or configure?

SAM460ex and frequent lock-ups make the system almost unusable
Just popping in
Just popping in

As i am making my mini comeback to Amiga NG after having acquired a second hand SAM460ex, i have some questions before i lose my dedication and good faith in Next Gen Amiga. I have already installed 4.1 FE plus updates 1,2, Hotfix, however, no matter what I try, the system freezes often, thus it becomes almost unusable. Having done my reserach on the subject and based on similar problems i had with other NG systems in the past, all i can say is that i don’t really know what to look into. I am using a sata hd connected through a PCI Sil 3114 card if this matters at all.

Before I opened this thread, I tested some things at no avail. System still locks up:

- with/without ethernet cable connected
- with/without using any usb stick at all
- with different keyboards/mice

The system can work almost flawlessly either for hours or for a couple of seconds upon boot. It is random! No patterns at all and this makes troubleshooting extremely difficult.

It is also important to add that while using another HD with MorphOS 3.15 installed, the system runs smooth like silk for hours with no hiccups whatsoever.

Any ideas on what to try further in order to solve this silly lock-up problem?

Re: Radeon 9250 drivers for SAM440ep

@broadblues
I already checked there but there is nothing more than a Voodoo driver. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

I shall do what Mick JT suggested and try to find any drivers in the original OS cd. I didn't try to boot with the cd and see what happens but when i have the Radeon on all i get is a corrupted screen and nothing happens. Seems obvious to me since i haven't tweaked anything yet.

Radeon 9250 drivers for SAM440ep
Just popping in
Just popping in

As per title. Recently i bought a 9250 for my little SAM and thought i would give it a go yesterday but found out that i don't have any drivers to be put in my DEVS/MONITORS drawer. I thought that this came by default with AOS 4.1 but even though i also checked all the updates, no such driver is found. Does anybody know if it's hidden somewhere in the system or even better, could somebody mail me the driver? Thanks in advance

@MickJT
Nope!

def_RAM.info, and ram-handler.kmod / ramdrive.device.kmod / ramlib.kmod

are missing. Strange enough! Don't know what might have happened but anyway. What do you suggest me to do now? Btw, thanks for your reply.

Re: Keyrah and joystick problem with SAM440ep

Just popping in

Slight update: even if Amigakit has proved to be really helpful in the past, this time this wasn't the case! I asked for help, opened a ticket, reopened it because it was closed without a single answer and when i finally got a reply, it was something like: "why don't you refer to the hardware manufacturer since we can't help you?" I suppose that it might be something they don't really know how to solve so i'm making a last try here.

Does anybody know how i can possibly configure Keyrah joystick ports through Amigainput. It isn't detected as a USB device so it can't be calibrated of course. Does anybody have a similar device in order to test it and confirm that either i'm doing something wrong or my Keyrah is defective?

OS4.1u6 - SAM440ep - RAM Disk suddenly disappeared!
Just popping in
Just popping in

It has happened to me before with a partition icon which i eventually solved back then but i don't quite remember how now. This time it is my RAM Disk icon that disappeared all of a sudden. I was unarchiving an LHA to Ram Disk when i had a system freeze and after the reboot the icon wasn't there. Could somebody explain me what exactly happened and how i can possibly bring my Ram Disk icon back? I have tried copying the respective icon from my Amiga OS4.1 cd but it seems i'm doing it the wrong way, since the system won't permit me to complete the copy. Tried to find some useful clue in Prefs/EnvArc/Sys drawer but with no luck. Not a total newbie with Amiga OS but hey, i'm still learning! Any help appreciated of course!

Keyrah and joystick problem with SAM440ep
Just popping in
Just popping in

Keyrah is a really nice addition to a PC or to a NG Amiga (like the SAM i'm using it with) and it worths the money BUT all i can also say is that i encountered problems with the joystick use. I have connected an A1200 keyboard to Keyrah and i've been using it with my SAM440 which is running OS 4.16. As a keyboard it's really flawless but even though i even used a brand new competition pro joystick (by Indivision) which i connected to Keyrah through both 9pin ports, i couldn't set the fire button to work under any game. All the directions are working OK but not the fire button. Tested it either with M.A.C.E. or with HunoPPC'S games (1942 etc.) and similar stuff but with no luck so far. Calibration through Amigainput should be an option but i can't seem to find the way to do it like with USB ones. Any suggestions please? I have also opened a ticket on Amigakit but no answer yet. :(

@Liveforit

I have already done the "font stuff", i'm not running it from RAM but from a stable position in my SYS drawer which is SFS formatted. Thanks anyway for the suggestions. I don't really know what the heck it is but all i know is that i wanna join the party as well!!

Using a MicroA1 (256mb RAM) here and i haven't yet had the chance to get my hands on any Timberwolf Beta. It always crashes when the opening screen splashes. I have submitted the last Crash log i got here

http://crashlog.os4depot.net/index.ph ... ction=view&crashlogid=332

I'm running AOS 4.1.4. Any ideas on what i should check and tweak?

Actually i am using SFS as i wrote before. I don't think this is the problem in my case. I have also done all the stuff related to font config. Whatever.....

@walkero
I have installed Timberwolf as suggested in the guide but still no luck. I'm also running limpid clock and nothing else apart from the basic OS and apps. I'll try to delete the folder and reinstall but it is a weird problem isn't it?

I keep getting the same error whatever i have tried. Take a look at the following image in order to get the idea. It might be "all greek to you" but i suppose there are elements that might help.

My system is a μA1 and i have OS 4.1.4 installed in a partition which is formatted with SFS. Any ideas? I would love to try the new version.

Re: Jack - Buttons not working

Yes I'm talking about the interface buttons you're faced with when you open jack. As for the language, it is English. Jack (the latest version) is running after a clean install on an uA1with OS 4.1.4, if that helps anyway.

Jack - Buttons not working

Hi to everybody. Downloaded Jack the other day, mainly because it seems a very useful app not to mention the eye candy effect. Anyway, installed everything plus WGet and when i tried to run it i found out that the "buttons" just don't work. In order to call any function/app i can only use the "F-Keys". Any ideas on why this is happening. It's just a pity cause Jack is one of the most useful apps that do AmigaOS 4.x justice in terms of usability and beauty.
