Re: Sfs and files +4gig

@Antique

Use ChangeFilePosition(), GetFilePosition(), GetFileSize(), ChangeFileSize() instead of old Seek() function. (Seek() is only 32bit and it's now deprecated. Those others are 64bit.) (Remember to use int64 variables with those.) Open(), Close(), Read() and Write() are still ok. (Well OS4 only. I don't know OS3.x.)

Why don't you have a SiliconImage IDE/SATA card ? They're not too expensive and they're fast and reliable. No speed issues with them.

ReAction is really just gone and it all just the standard Amiga OS GUI.

This AISS system could also become part of the standard Amiga OS GUI at some point.

That's interesting. If this is possible that AISS might become part of AOS so what about ExtremeSound from DaveAE ?

MUI/Reaction ?

No. Make it datatypes class so you can use it with both MUI and Reaction GUIs (and everything else + Multiview) f.ex. we have already simplehtml datatype.

It did this two times but no problems since then. It's hard to test anything when this behaviour is random and rare. These kind of random problems are most likely hardware related I guess.

It took longer to boot than normally today. I don't know why it was slow. This is not good. I didn't change anything in S-S, U-S or WBStartup.

Re: New version of X11 available soon..

@cygnusEd

Argh... I think when I last time updated OS maybe I didn't copy ENVARC: back from a backup. And I think some program I installed required to create that HOME variable and put it point to some empty home directory. I had also those ETC: and USR: assigns already so I had to add those Cygnix paths in my scripts manually. Maybe Cygnix installer didn't overwrite those assigns because they existed already. Oops.

I had to create those env vars manually in CLI you listed in your post. I don't know why installer didn't create them when I reinstalled Cygnix from scratch. I have to say I didn't RTFM.

Now everything's working again. My mistake. I should RTFM next time. Thanks for help.

Do you have plans to fix that 32 bit colours problem ? And that 1680x1050 resolution isn't correct still. I'm starting to suspect this Radeon9200 card doesn't think it as standard resolution. Or is it cybergraphics.library that doesn't recognize the resolution ?

Re: New version of X11 available soon..

@cygnusEd

I reinstalled everything from scratch but everything's still like it was already.

A very small example from Snoopy log:
e16 [16] o.k. = GetVar("ENVARC:LC_ALL",...,...,...)
ENV FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:LC_ALL",SHARED)
e16 [16] o.k. = GetVar("ENVARC:LC_MESSAGES",...,...,...)
ENV FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:LC_MESSAGES",SHARED)
e16 [16] o.k. = GetVar("ENVARC:GETTEXT_LOG_UNTRANSLATED",...,...,...)
ENV FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:GETTEXT_LOG_UNTRANSLATED",SHARED)
e16 [16] o.k. = GetVar("ENVARC:LANG",...,...,...)
ENV FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:LANG",SHARED)
ENV FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:XML_MEM_TRACE",SHARED)
AbiWord-2.5 o.k. = GetVar("ENVARC:XML_MEM_TRACE",...,...,...)
ENV FAIL = Lock("ENVARC:XML_MEM_BREAKPOINT",SHARED)
AbiWord-2.5 o.k. = GetVar("ENVARC:XML_MEM_BREAKPOINT",...,...,...)

These are there over and over and millions times over again and there's a lot more similar messages. Snoopy log has some 6000 lines of these before I halted logging. Well sometimes this ENVARC:LANG is "o.k." and most of the times it's not.

Then when I quit X11 system I'll get this requester:
Please insert volume
/Software/X11R6.3-Pre3/sys:
in any drive

When "Software:X11R6.3-Pre" is correct Amiga style path.

And also:
Please insert volume
/Software/X11R6.3-Pre3/Software:
in any drive

When "Software:X11R6.3-Pre/Software/" is correct Amiga style path.

Another question/problem:
Is it possible to use screen resolution 1680x1050 in X11 because when I'm using it the screenmode is not correct somehow. My monitor show correct numbers on OSD but the screen doesn't fit on the viewable area. It's scrolled automaticly when moving the mouse. And I just found AW.net thread, and this 32 bit mode is broken. So do you have plans to fix it ?

Sorry, I forgot to answer here. I'm not familiar with C++ and I've never used WxWidgets anywhere so I don't know much how they work and so on. So I'm not sure if I can help.

I have a couple of thoughts anyway. Wasn't there WxWidgets ported already to Cygnix ? And did I understand correctly you guys was going to start porting from some Winblows version ? Why don't you use Cygnix port if it's already running on OS4 ?

Any news ?

Last time I tested any of those X11 programs didn't work. I don't remember is it because OS4 July update or why. They are trying to access forever something in ENVARC: which doesn't exist.

AmigaOne slow booting... strange
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Now I got that famous problem too. My A1 didn't boot so I thought to check that battery first and I replaced it with a new one because old was 2.92 volts and the new one is 3.4 (or was it 3.2 ?) volts. After that it booted to Workbench but freezed almost immediately. Now it's like before battery replacement. It loads Kickstart modules but then there's only black screen and nothing happens. Then I replaced the battery again and short circuited pins of the battery holder (like suggested in some forum threads and that was possibly unnecessary after all). After that it booted to Workbench but freezed again. Then I got it to boot without startup-sequence from the startup menu. Then I found the problem. When I removed addnetinterface from startup-sequence it booted without problems. If I boot it first to WB and then try to start addnetinterface from shell it doesn't freeze but it can't connect to net. Then I powered off my ADSL modem/router (and switched it back on) everything is working fine again. So maybe I did something wrong last time I used my computer but I don't think so. Quite weird.

I had same problem with Linux (2.6.8) too (before resetting the modem).

So next time you have similar problems try resetting your network.

Some software
Just can't stay away
Just can't stay away

Hello everybody !

I wanted to say hello and introduce my pieces of software I have uploaded to os4depot.net.

- Switcher3D (v2.92, v2.93 not on os4depot yet); People were whining on forums why Amiga doesn't have cool features like this so I made Switcher3D

- FindMore (v1.1, v1.2 not on os4depot yet); Find doesn't have this many options when running it with GUI. I wanted to create a Mac Spotlight kind of file searching tool but then I thought what's wrong with traditional file searching tools

- FuelGauge (v1.3, v1.4 not on os4depot yet); Somebody wanted to have this kind of a program for AOS4 so I made one and it's quite useful

- ScreenMonitor (v1.1, v1.2 not on os4depot yet); I needed this one myself

- CompilerGUI (v1.0, v1.1 not on os4depot yet); Like this one as well

- Jukebox (v1.0, v1.01 not on os4depot yet); I made this in 1990's for my classic system. I thought this is somehow cool

- VirtualDrawer (v1.0, v1.1 not on os4depot yet); This was easy to create from FindMore and Mac has a similar feature

- MakelinkGUI (v1.0); I made this because all people don't like to use CLI and because "leave out" function in WB is not exactly the same thing as "shortcut" icons are on some other platforms (to me it's not much different)

- Multiclock (v1.0); I made this when I was waiting for AmiWest to start

- YetAnotherDesk (v0.2b); I made this because people were whining on forums that Amiga lacks virtual desktops. I tried to add quite many features in it. This required quite a lot of work

- WBPreview (v1.0); I wanted to make a preview program for WB when people were talking about Mac's QuickView on forums

- AnotherWBFilter (v1.0); WBFilter in contrib drawer in some of the AOS4 prereleases is quite buggy. I made this kind of feature for YetAnotherDesk and then I thought why not making my own WBFilter for WB

- QuestionNr1 (v1.0); This is actually a sort of a "joke" program asking a simple question

- TimeTraveler (v1.0); This is basicly a trashcan browser. I made this because Mac has Timemachine. I don't know if this program is useful

- ScreenThumbs (v1.0b); I changed this a lot more OS friendly and now there's strange lockup problems :-O

- PixelRuler (v1.0);

- ShowMsg (v1.0); AmigaDOS command RequestChoice lacks a possibility to close it with CTRL-C

(17 and counting...

These are not uploaded:

- LastUsedApps (v1.0); GetAppLibAttrs() doesn't work !

- LastUsedDocs (v1.0); GetAppLibAttrs() doesn't work !

Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays if you don't celebrate Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone !
