Re: Report your 'AmigaOS 4.0 Final' bugs here!

I sometimes get a GR from Radeon driver during the boot. Just before WorkBench appears. It won't continue the boot, all I see is the CLI window. Reboot solves the problem, but it would be nice to know what causes this.

Machine: A1-XE (unfixed), 800 MHz G4, Radeon 7000, 512 MB RAM
OS: OS4 Final (clean install)

Can we use Update 4 AmigaInput with the final release?

Is the new AmiSSL (3.6) needed for IBrowse 2.4 under OS4? It is 68k, and I have understood the AmiSSL coming with OS4 Pre-Release Update 4 (3.5) is PPC native.

@severin

Is there a way to bind that into mouse click? Would be cool to be able to just click on the link and it would load on the inactive browser window.

edit: Oh, it does that already! Wonderful!

So where do you download the free update? I am a registered 2.3 user, but all I can see in the IOSpirit's site are the the updates for 1.x users and the full product...

Re: Running PC CD-ROMs on OS4

Thanks for the tips - I'll try the cabextract ans exe2arc when I get back home.

I don't think it would be appropiate (or legal) to put the CDimage into net, as the CD-ROM is sold commercially through companies like Vesalia.

I don't have PC at home, but if everything else fails I guess I can bother some friends of mine to unpack it under Windows. Just want to see if this is possible under OS4 first!

I tried both with unrar ('unrar x') and unzip but the file was not recognised to either rar or zip file, so both operations failed.

Any other suggestions?

Running PC CD-ROMs on OS4
Just popping in
Just popping in

I recently acquired "Amiga classix 4 for PC/Mac" as it has plenty of great Amiga games available for EUAE. The earlier similar CDs have been Amiga friendly (the games have been available as ADFs in a separate directory), but this latest on is one of those 'auto-run' CDs with one huge .exe file.

The question is, is there a way to run (or unpack) that .exe file under OS4?

USB Card readers for OS4

I am thinking about buying one of those nice USB all-in-one card readers for my AmigaOne/OS4 - preferably an internal model for one of the free drive bays I have in the tower. How well do they work with OS4? Any recommended models? Do I need some additional software (other than USB stack)?

@sundown
You were right, Scout reveals that after closing IBrowse, a task called 'IBrowse' remains active. If I freeze or remove it, the system goes back to normal speed.

@poweramiga
I think you should do as I did - get Scout from OS4Depot, install it and use it to kill the 'IBrowse' task. No more unnecessary rebooting!

@Severin
Hard disk (SFS) partition faster than RAM Disk you say? I have always thought real RAM would be faster, but this is no longer true? Or is it a AmigaOne/OS4 specific thing?

Anyway, thanks for the tip, I shall setup the cache to a small SFS partition I already have (I call it "The JunkYard" ).

"Games" section into the forums would be nice - a place where we can talk about the games we play on Amigas/UAE.

@zant
I agree "Equilibrium" has certain resemblance to Wachowski brothers' masterpiece, but the movie has its own strong points which make it a classic on its own. IMHO of course

I'll try to see "Code 46" as soon as possible, as well as "A Scanner Darkly" (yes, I am a big fan of both Blade Runner and Philip K. Dick)

@Chip

IBrowse cache is set to RAM Disk.

@all

Thanks for your help, javascript sounds like a good suspect for the problems. I'll check my IBrowse prefs.

Re: AmigaOS4 support

I have this weird problem. If I use IBrowse for a while and then quit, the system goes into "slow motion mode". If I open other applications (or even IBrowse) after that, their loading times are much longer. If I start a movie clip with Mplayer, it loads much slower and playback studders a lot. Basicly, any disk operation done with the machine takes a lot of time (like DMA would suddenly be swithed off).

The problem goes away if I warm boot the machine. Nothing crashes, so there are no crash logs to examine. Any ideas what could cause this phenomenon?

Machine is unfixed A1-XE-G4@800 MHz, 512 MB RAM, SiI0680, Radeon 7000, Soundblaster Live running OS4 Pre-Release Update 4 and IBrowse 2.3.

Recently, I have watched:

"The Matador"
Not to everybody's taste, but I found this film genuinely funny. Never thought I would say this, but Pierce Brosnan does an excellent job as the weird hitman

"16 Blocks"
Reminds me of the old classic "Gauntlet" (starring Clint Eastwood). Bruce Willis does one of his best performances since the original "Die Hard".

"Equilibrium"
Science fiction action movie, cool movie with good plot. Starring Christian Bale ("Batman Begins").
