Re: general device failure

@Lio

using SFS on classic and the A1 I get similair errors from time to time... I think it is the nature of the beast... I reset each time and to no ill effect...

I look upon it as a clitch in combinations of software and ghost code lol...

not unlike the friendly guru of yesterday...

to remark about it now though I have not experienced anything of this nature for a few months... I did double my buffers on all my partitions though... no idea if that matters... some run 2048 and a few are sporting 4096

adios!

@Cyborg

myself and others I'm sure are very appreciative of your endevours in this area...

so very much thanks for your work and detective work (as I see it) also into trying to get the workings working even better...

I shall take your advice and hope all goes well...

perhaps the maintainers of roadshow could benefit from your findings...

all the best with your projects and thanks for the valued insight

New Network Card and perhaps Modem?

Deciding to install a network card...seems the inbuilt one in my AmigaOne might be playing up...

doesn't seem to be my DLink DSL 504G Router... since get the same problems with a DSL-302G

unreliable speeds etc...

before some of us try and troubleshoot anything...?lol

any suggestions on a good PCI Network Card? The Top 2 or 3 maybe...

and any suggestions on another Modem? and yes, would prefer another Router...

only asking since I know nothing about modern? hardware as of yet...

first AmigaOne ;)

thanks

@Swoop

not a bad idea, I'll try that soon... might cause some problems with bitrate? since the resulting avi will be smaller... which would again lead to the problem of trying to load in the original audio and manipulate it...

@sundown

not sure what you are solving here but thanks for the thoughts... I have no problem storing the large file... I already joined the 7 vob files in total to one file in a SFS2 partition that supports files larger than 4 gig...

PB.vob is 6.7 gigs - used cat to join it

Re: Printers

@all

so gentlemen...

what is the bottom line?

I'd like to get a new printer and I'm never too worried about the price...

in your opinion what are a few good printers I could get that I could plug into the back of my A1 and via usb and/or a driver for whatever connection type available it would just go :D

graphics aren't a big thing, nor is colour, but I'd still like those options available... we don't want problems with specific types of paper or ink etc... so sensible materials in a sensible range... :D

btw, I had a small inquiry regarding some of these printers on the market that also scan... they scan without cpu software I believe... is it possible to get this printer/scanner to scan a photo etc and somehow grab this information? technically impossible without tailored software or a simple wrapper type program to steal it via usb could do the trick?... lol

thanks guys...

p.s guess I'd be using Final Writer or similair to print from... but OS4 does introduce PDF printing... I printed out via OS4 classic to my old HP 500C and it didn't come out too bad with the driver supplied for it...

Re: FFMPeg Revision

@Swoop

Thanks again there Swoop... yip, I tend to live in a shell :D and I think that latter suggestion is a compile option...

I will try the simplified approach but as far as I can tell my only options are this... seperate the audio and convert it into raw or aiff or what not and then use FFMPeg to take only the video from the MPeg DVD Vob and merge with the new audio... the complication involved in this is getting the audio bit rate in sync I suppose... not sure I'm prepared to knock myself out over this... lol

I was reading in another thread on here that the neccessary support had been implemented but wasn't publically available since it caused other problems in other support namely cell phone formats??

I'd like to get my hands on that since I wouldn't use FFMPeg to convert anything else but vobs :D

lets see that ;) heh

@Swoop

I do appreciate the interest and yes I did try the map feature to select the different audios...

-map 0:0 0:2 for instance

I think maybe I need to do some serious reading... I don't mind manuals etc, it's just finding the right information first that is quite the problem :D

the complete input line is clearly in my initial post... I don't think one can force anything if the program can't identify what it is it is supposed to read and understand first let alone go on to convert it :D

Re: AmigaOS 4.x

@All

I think it's getting to the stage that most people interested in this retro movement were hardly even around when the Amiga was in the spotlight... and then you have the others returning to the Amiga out of curiousity and then discovering there is whdload and thousands of free games to play trying to plead for support (the latter is a seriously cynical viewpoint... lol)

I've never understood why people insist on holding things back with this 'one system should do it all' mentality or with this emulation attitude that a modern OS creation should provide for the games and apps of yesterday...

It was remarkable alone that it was released for the classic PPC...

The developers have my complete support to let go of all the restrictions potentially present and just go forward...

and if we lose a few supporters based on this reality check I for one won't lose any sleep over it... they'll just lean further in another direction and hound them with similair requests instead...

@AmigaBlitter
anyway AmigaBlitter although everyone I am sure understands your simple inquiry, at times it can stir slightly more emotional responses...

I've been an Amiga User since 1986 for example and I've never once concerned myself with backwards compatiability...

Just curious to when we can convert our nice vob files that we now can host under SFS2 partitions... wanting to convert my 6.7Gig Princess Bride into an avi I can then store on my Modded Xbox... to my horror some audio codecs is missing...

help ;)

I reluctantly tried mencoder and was kindly informed that it didn't support mp3...

I know it seems to be a problem... but any update in this area?

thanks!

another ffmpeg thread exists but that looked like it dealt more with the gui... I like the shell also :D

Slayer finally shows up!

not sure how this site escaped my senses but I'm finally here...

been moaning away quite happily on EAB that we needed a more stricter Amiga (Pro Amiga Policy) environment and here we have one...

looks like a great site too people, very nicely done...

I'm Slayer (David) and been an Amiga user since 1986... I've never used or owned any other computer other than other Amigas and that is still the case today...

a few years ago someone did buy me a modded xbox for a gift and since then I did acquire a xbox360 too... they have not had that much use but the modded xbox is great for watching movies and forms part of my ethernet network via my router connected to the AmigaOne... I refuse to call them cpus :D

live is great and so is AmigaOS :D

lets keep on keeping on...!

thanks for letting me in :D

edit: just a sig test

always been one to have larger buffers... then again I always ensured my Amigas have ample memory too...

my OS4 classic for example has 1024 buffers on all 5 partitions and the AmigaOne has 2048 on all 6

don't settle for anything less... I tell ya! lol

@orgin

pretty sure I fell into this category... I haven't worried about it for a few weeks since I had an emai clitch (provider end and now sorted) and didn't know how long it had been like that...

today I just decided to try and login instead of browsing as an anoynomous user and I got in... guess someone up there processed me anyway

thanks for the work behind the scene! here I am!

I am glad to see there is a strict overview of non-Amigapro conduct... always said for years at EAB it should be enforced...

I even offered to be a moderator to show the way lol...

think I'll be right at home here...

cheers to all
